Most people don't think of pets giving blood and many if not too stressed out should. I know I give blood before i have an operation or procedure in case something goes wrong. This was really an informative article. Thank You !

I saw a great program in Australia where police dogs and dogs in prime condition are checked by the vets for health, blood types and suitability to give blood and then come in every three months to give blood . The dogs are made of fuss of and given a good food treat after. Dogs did not mind and everyone was happy.

What a wonderful idea. Why asn't anyone thought of doing that here?? Nice to see positive ideas, not the cruelty we usually see. Thank you for the article.

Pets in shelters can also be boold donors. Reaizing what they went through, this may sound cruel, but, done properly, it has no effect on the animals's emotional health.

Didn't know they had donor blood banks for pets. Why don't they do that in the US?
