Using Crayola markers all the time, there does need to be something done. The plastic may have come from recycled product, but the new marker is not recyclable.
The same thing goes for Exacto markers, and Expo markers to be used on white boards. Tens of thousands must be discarded during the course of a school year alone.

I worked in day care and I started to loathe those markers as their lifespan is short and they ended up in landfills.
