I am horrified at this decision... it is horrendous, this is unbelievable, how could any sane person allow this ruling to be passed... it is unethical and I sincerley hope that they would have a change of heart... They are wiping out every living thing and this is scarey when they start with these deer that are expecting

It is unbelievable that it is actually the parks and rec dept. that is allowing this!! If this community would stop developing and covering the land with plantations and cornfields, the deer would have a place to live. The predators in this area have also been hunted to extinction. If a wolf, coyote or mtn lion is sited in this area, it is killed immediately.

This is disgusting and unacceptable.

but it is no different than the dairy cows every day who go to slaughter preg with calves that have them ripped from thier wombs and slaughtered with thier mothers. these calves are far enough along to cry out in fear and terror for thier mothers as their throats are being slashed.

IT IS TIME TO STOP KILLING ALL ANIMALS FOR FOOD. HUNTING IS NO MORE CRUEL AND INHUMANE THAN ALLOWING FARM ANIMALS TO BE SLAUGHTERED FOR FOOD. BABIES AS WELL AS MOTHERS. MALE CHICKS AND CALVES BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO USE TO THE BUSINESS.

STOP KILLING ALL OUR ANIMALS. LIVE WITH COMPASSION FOR ALL ANIMALS.

It sickens me how poeple throng to protect whales, deer, lions, wild animals period, yet think farm animals are different and acceptable to be even more crueling and inhumanely raised and slaughtered. it is time we start fighting for

ALL ANIMALS TO STOP BEING KILLED FOR HUMANS GREED AND JUST TO SATISFY OUR TASTE BUDS.

there is a whole host of deer-proof plants and methods to deter. and when deer have less food, they produce fewer offspring. there's your answer. be sure to post the first accidental shoot.

This is just wrong, wrong, wrong! These people call themselves humans. Humans are supposed to be smarter than the animals. I just hope these guys have bad aim. Bees unite! Attack these killers. I'm not picky, you wasps and hornets can jump right in there, too! Attack their aim, please. Make them shoot themselves in the foot.

OMG..... iI am shocked and rocked by this sick decision..thats 2 deer at one "SHOT" and no chance for renewal......Wish I could warn the doe's and get the bucks to go after the hunters..
I ONLY CONDONE HUNTING FOR THE VERY POOREST AND ONLY FOR THEM TO EAT..
nothing, NOTHING else is permitted and do not try to tell me ,well they are eating or selling the meat. go to any shopping center and buy that..

Even if the doe are not pregnant when inflicted with a bow, they likely have a fawn nearby that will be orphaned. There is no wildlife rehab in this area. You protests are needed BEFORE TOMORROW (wed) - before they meet to discuss if they will go forward with this or not. PLEASE

Echo here is a copy of my letter sent to those whose links you have provided

Tuesday, September 15, 2009

Attention: Mayor of Marshalltown,Terry Gray, all who have received this message

Regarding:
http://www.timesrepublican.com/page/content.detail/id/519484.html?nav=5005

Advocates at Care2.com and Change.org , IDA, IFAW, ASPCA, AH and many other websites concerned with abuse and cruelty towards animals are in agreement that

killing pregnant doe's / deer is unconsciounable.

Advocates are wondering if Terry Gray, director of the Marshalltown Parks and Recreation Department, has attempted to conduct education seminars to those concerned about the deer population in urban areas; additionally, whether in fact he is qualified to do so which begs the question: why not contact those who are qualified to demonstrate viable solutions that would favour educating rather than eradicating.

To this end the meeting scheduled tomorrow should be noted by those in attendance that the killing of pregnant does is not acceptable and therefore the bow hunting must not be allowed to proceed.

The form provided with this link > http://www.ci.marshalltown.ia.us/contactus/form is

dysfunctional therefore many agencies and advocates wonder why individuals outside Marshalltown are not being 'invited' in to speak!

The Mayor is being invited along with any other individuals who wish to have their say to contact me where your views will be posted in my blogs and forwarded to advocacy sites, animal cruelty websites and agencies and to a worldwide network of people who are against the bow hunting and killing of pregnant does in Marshalltown.

Lastly this news items has been posted on twitter to draw awareness to the plight of innocent pregnant doe and deer that your proposed bow hunting plans to kill with the

understanding that Terry Gray, director of the Marshalltown Parks and Recreation Department in Iowa is promoting.

Advocate for animals subjected to cruelty having taken a Pledge to be their voice,

Sincerely,

Rosemary Rannes

So when it isn't a kill shot or even if it is, deer can run quite a way...what happens when the deer runs down a small child or grandma?

this just can't be the law! What sick person decided this was okay???It has to stop here, or maybe unwanted "humans" will be the next legal thing to hunt. Totally insane.

I don't understand the "pregnant doe" objection. Deer in Iowa won't go into estrus until late November/Early December. Fawns will be born in May or early June. These fawns will be able to survive on their own by now and the does aren't pregnant now.
In order to control the deer population it is necessary to take does. In fact in some states now they require hunters to take one doe before they can take a buck. This is because hunters have traditionally taken bucks only and this doesn't help manage the deer population since one buck will mate with many does.
Iowa has a long hunting and farming tradition and this type of thing is prefectly normal to most residents there. Deer hunting is extremely popular in many states. Never deer hunted myself, but I have many friend who do.

As most women who have ever been pregnant can tell you...running with the all that extra weight is a bit difficult. It puts the does at a great disadvantage to not be able to run or flee and their reaction time is also greatly affected. Therefore it is no longer a fair hunt but slaughter! As far as the overpopulation situation, there are many other methods to address this isssue but people tend to not want to be bothered with it; it is much easier to just kill! There are even times when overpopulation is not actually a problem. They blame it on overpopulation, but it is actually because people want rid of deer because they eat their plants, shrubs, etc. In addition, some people, for whatever sick reason, just like to kill things.

Thanks for the other emails. I tried the city and after an elaborate comment, it didn't work! I did email the man who wrote the article, encouraging him to take action on behalf of the deer. Thanks all for caring!

Well I quess if Iowa is that backward it better join with China, Japan and Canada in the animal abuser stakes! I really did not think Iowa had an over large redneck quota though! No doubt if it had been LA County thet would have dubbed them terrorists like the LA cats!

I received an email back from one of the residents that I found an email address for (gotta love the internet). He told me, "Even the local bow hunters agree with you. They say it is not a sport, but a harvest." and " Shows what the power of what one man who is mad about the deer population can do".

I suppose hunters have taken bucks becuase they fill more wall space as trophy and more freezer space because they are bigger!

The town has responded, because peta sent them a letter. They think everyone against the urban hunt is from peta. Here is a phone number for Terry Grey. 641-754-5715.. please leave a message (without anger, please) tell them you are not from peta and are against the hunt and would like it documented with video. Again the ph. number is 641-754-5715... also here is the latest response in the local paper there today:
