Classroom - Cut ups. Dissection Hurts Animals. Animals used in the dissection industry suffer terribly before they reach the classroom. PETA's undercover investigation of one major biological supply company exposed gross cruelty to live animals!

This science activity should be stopped. I got nothing out of dissecting a frog in Biology class 45 years ago....a smelly disgusting "science"activity. There are a lot of good science materials available that can replace dissection.

I CARE A LOT MORE ABOUT STUDENTS IN UNDERFUNDED SCHOOLS WITHOUT ACCESS TO A THOROUGH EDUCATION!!!!!

Yes I agree Marjorie & Pam..there is just NO reason to perpetuate this abuse...it is morally wrong...I have signed the PETA pledge. Thank you Denise

"If people knew exactly where the cats came from, they'd shut us down."
~Carolina Biological Supply Company

I feel sick. I'm not thinking clearly right now b/c of this video but if Kathleen means to say that she cares more about whether American schools are underfunded than this practice of raising, brutally torturing, and murdering all manner of animals--animals that would otherwise be food, pets, or simply not born because there was not a 'market' for them--I think that is sad.

I care more about these animals than your perception of the value of these animals' suffering. Not a very pro-life comment for one to make IMO, but maybe I misunderstood you.

This is an effective video. I hope it reaches school-age children and educates them on the inhumanity of adults so that they can practice civil disobedience and refuse to become like them.

With digital pictures and computer images, there is reason to continue this anymore. Especially breeding more animals for the purpose. The money spent collecting on killing all the subjects should be used in making the videos. YOU DO HAVE A VOICE FOR THE VOICELESS, USE IT WITH YOUR EDUCATORS, SCHOOL BOARDS, UNIVERSITY BOARDS AND THE PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT!!!!

With these disgusting practices going on in schools, it is no wonder people commit such atrocities against helpless innocent animals without compuction.

This is outdated, outmoded, and totally ridiculous - my daughter refused to do dissection on frogs and was assigned long and nasty projects to do in place of dissection. I'm proud to say she did them. Students merely need to stand up and parents need to stand behind their kids.
There is NO justifiable reason for dissection in today's world.

YES, I care about our children getting a thorough education. If they learn as thoroughly without (dead) animals, then great. Black, I get your point but in this region these leaders have no power over the shameful lack of funding for our schools.

They would likely learn much more about phisiology by disecting live human beings. That doesn't make it okay. So what justifies a lifetime of suffering and a cruel death for 'education.' In today's world our children will live a better life if they learn a bit more about compassion.

I am constantly advocating compassion for humans. I do NOT condone testing on live humans. Having worked in a bioresearch lab & seeing the results, I would NEVER let my kids or grandchildren use untested products. The corporations with compounds in their products, like medicine & hair care, et al, do not care whom they harm as long their profits are up -- I have indeed seen the facts of this. BTW: I want to donate my own body to science. Also, btw: I have dearly loved pets. Unlike most folks, I simply had the opportunity to learn both sides of these issues. [NO hateful replies, please...you have not walked in my shoes nor seen all I have seen.] Thank you~

Not intending to be hateful, just advocating for a bit of compassion for the same species you host in your home. I consider you a friend. IMO your heart and mind are in the right place on most issues, but on this one, I doubt you even watched the video.

I see all animals as my fellow species with the same rights to live thier own lives, free from abuse, brutallity and cruel, inhumane unreliable tests!
And we all know, that using human tissue is the best thing to do. We also have computer simulations. There is NO need to harm our beautiful fellow species!!
Who is telling us, humans, that we can do everything with animals as we please??? Animals are also sentient beings, they can feel pain, they can suffer and they can be stressed...there is NO difference between animals and humans! I hate everybody who is thinking that HE/SHE is better then animals...and that everybody is allowed to cut, beaten, torture animals when they like or want to. I love life, but not at all costs and certainly not by causing so much pain and suffering to creatures who never done something wrong to us humans.
"I am not interested to know whether vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesnt. ... the pain which it inflicts upon unconsenting animals is the basis of my enmity toward it, and it is to me sufficient justification of the enmity without looking further" -- Mark Twain --

"I abhor vivisection. It should at least be curbed. Better it should be abolished. I know of no achievement through vivisection, no scientific discovery that could not have been obtained without such barbarism and cruelty. The whole thing is evil."- Dr. Charles Mayo, founder of Mayo Clinic.

"The question is not, Can they reason? nor, Can they talk? But rather, Can they suffer?" - Jeremy Bentham, 19th century Philosopher, Oxford University.

"If a man aspires toward a righteous life, his first act of abstinence is from injury to animals." - Leo Tolstoy, Russian author.

"Not to hurt our humble brethren is our first duty to them, but to stop there is not enough. We have a higher mission, to be of service to them whenever they require it." - St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals.

Dissection alone (without knowing the pre-death horrors) is enough to cause MANY children to turn away from (Medical) Science classes. My nephew wanted to be a vet until he found out he'd have to do a dissection in the Science class he'd need to take. I've heard some schools now let you skip that, or do "virtual" dissections.. I'm not sure what the best alternative is.

Well, if he's cut open a dead cat then I guess that's good enough for me, and since me and my kids have also cut open dead animals I guess I can have one of them assist me with your surgery.

Go Vote, Why take my life-learned knowledge & just turn it into silliness?
My point was only that I would want a well educated & experienced doctor to do surgery on my loved ones. And, due to what I know about antibiotics, from my life-learned knowledge, am I VERY careful about which ones my families consider using. I BELIEVE THAT ANIMALS ARE AT LEAST AS CLOSE TO GOD AS HUMANS ARE, BUT WE ARE MADE IN HIS IMAGE AND NEED CARED FOR AS SUCH~~~~

Because it IS just silly to think that if a doctor has never played with dead things he is therefore incompetent. You're giving your body to science. They're welcome to use mine too. As long as they can keep the dead human business ethical (hah!) I have nothing against letting the surgeon wanabes practice on real (albeit dead) humans. This experience will teach them a great deal more than cutting some poor kitty that was raised and 'harvested' just for a science class.

Not that your arguement has any merit but how many of those animals are cut up by future surgeons? I cut one up for nursing school. Had to do a frog on the first day of Anatomy in college even though I had already done one in high school. So I've got 3 kills credited to my ejucation to qualify me to give you pills. Throw in my wife and kids, none of whom have even a nursing degree and we've got at least 7 whole animals + I honestly have no idea how many single parts we've cut. What I can tell you is it was a waste of life. We would learn no less from a coloring book and surgeons learn much more from attending surgeries.

Raising animals to cut them up is indefensable.

Clevor, I agree with the points in your comments!! On the other hand, since I had personal experience working in a bio-assay lab, where raised-for-research animals HELPED deter human harm from products, and, HELPED seek causes & cures for CANCER... I resent being "attacked" by folks as being terrible person for doing so [even though that was the ONLY job available at the time, so I could support my family]!!

Susan, that is debatable. Afterall animals teach their young hunting and those lessons are often rather sporty -- like when we persuade are children into sports to gain strength and learn cooperation and responsibility, not to mention aggression~~~
Clever, I respect that & you! Just please keep in mind you haven't "walked in my shoes" to see & know why I do defend the research I was involved in.
