If humanity ever wants to colonize a planet beyond the solar system, it's going to need a really big spaceship.

Great...wondering how long it'll take once there to start plundering it.

Noted. I suggest we send 40.00 Republicans very quickly.

Let's send all ecocidal psychopaths there, together with their glorifiers... I'd rather stay here to pick up the pieces!

Or better yet, let's send 40,000 people who believe in treating a planet with love and compassion. The ecocidal psychopaths and Republicanazis can go to some cold and lifeless planet. ;)

Nelson, Eternal, Freya, you rock!
I'm sure Agent Orange Boehner can get the company in his district, for which he had a special law requiring them to provide double the parts the Air Force orders, to build it. His ego might bite, if we allow him to name the planet after himself.

gee... Mormons claim to get their own planet after they die. So if every Mormon gets a planet to be "God" in, why would they want to be with 40,000 possible Non-Mormons on a planet other than earth in this life?

40,000 people is a reasonable number and the main reason for this number is for the genetic diversity, from what I can tell. That seems like a good enough idea except that the selection process for these 40,000 people from a total pool of probably 25% of earths population would probably weed out some undesirables and would ulitmately select for people who would be genetically similar in the long run seeing as people with similar "desirable" personality traits would more than likely have very similar genetic patterns when compared with the total genetic diversity of the who applicant pool. Also, if this is being run through the UN certain countries with more power in the UN will be able to get there applicants through easier, which would also funnel the genetic diversity, with more people coming from Russia, the US, and China than any other country. This is a great number of people, but the people and their genetic diversity will ultimately be reduced by the selection process for those individuals.

An interesting project for sometime in the distant future as no doubt the odds for survival are increased with larger numbers. At the moment, there are not enough resources or technical ability to do so on a large scale, but it an interesting prospect for the future. At the moment, humankind cannot travel far, perhaps to the moon or Mars.
