If Evolution Is Real Why Are There Still Monkeys?

If evolution is real why are there still monkeys? How can we be descended from monkeys if they are around today? With all the 'monkeying around' that can go on in the playground or even in the office it seems we could easily be directly descended

and why do this weird scientists claim that Earth is orbiting Sun, when I can see the sun run across the sky every day ?!

Because those who have never studied science never took the time to find out how evolution actually operates. Human ancestors were never monkeys. Human ancestors were never great apes or any other form of primate found on this planet today.

Humans and apes and chimpanzes, etc. had a common ancestor hundreds of millions of years ago. We went one way; the others went a different way. But we all carry some common pieces with us still.

Even Darwin at the end of his life said that it was creation and not evolution that the world exists!

I saw a science show recently about DNA, the difference from species to species is not as big as you would think, in other words a few changes in the DNA of two species result in major changes between the two species.

That's like saying that if cat descended from lions and tigers, why are there still lions and tigers?

I'm on the fence about this being a stupid question. The stupid media has called chimps 'monkeys' forever, and chimps are apes, not monkeys. Apes and monkeys are not the same - this is Anthro 101. Hence this question from a confused public. Put erroneous info in some form of print, or video, etc, and many people take it as gospel. No pun intended.

In taxonomy, the family Hominidae includes gorillas, chimpanzees, bonobos, orangutans - and humans. Humans are related to apes, not monkeys. We all had a common ancestor and diverged millions of years ago. Same as dogs, wolves and coyotes. They're in the process of diverging at present, and in maybe another 10,000 years - if we don't kill them all off - will no longer be able to inter-breed.

If ever there was an argument for teaching evolutionary biology and genetcs in school repeatedly, the question in the title of this article is it! Then, too perhaps, we'd stop hearing the work and concepts proposed by Charles Darwin and his colleagues misquoted, misapplied and misinterpreted with such frequency. Thank you Agnes for sharing this informative Q&A article by Dr. Paul Willis.

Maybe the "monkeys" are evolving from humans. I've noticed on some of the wildlife shows lately that they are starting to behave a little "evil".

And we are all just stardust in the end.
Read the article instead of gratifying yourself with 'soundbites' from the title which is meant, I believe, to be a bit tongue in cheek.... Like me saying if we are all descendants from God why are we so intentionally ignorant?

'''''Firstly, humans did not evolve from monkeys. Instead, monkeys and humans share a common ancestor from which both evolved around 25 million years ago.
This evolutionary relationship is supported both by the fossil record and DNA analysis. A 2007 study showed that humans and rhesus monkeys share about 93% of their DNA. Based on the similarities and differences between the two types of DNA, scientists have estimated that humans and rhesus monkeys diverged from their common ancestor 25 million years ago.''''''''

Thank you for the article, Agnes
