Is The Arctic Methane Situation Really As Bad As Headlines Make It?

A few days ago the "shocking" headlines came out, describing some new research on how much methane is now seeping out of the Arctic seafloor--a greenhouse gas far more potent than carbon dioxide, but much shorter lived in the atmosphere--as the region warm

I've read this but I'm still a bit confused. I'd read where as the permafrost melted in the Arctic on land that it would increase the methane released into the air which is not a good thing. And, I suppose as the oceans become warmer that would also release more methane from the depths of the ocean. I need to take a course on this but there are conflicting opinions.

this is misleading. the warming of the oceans is causing methane trapped at the bottom of the ocean to be released ALL OVER THE WORLD. that is because the cold is keeping it down on the ocean floor. there are billions of tons of methane gas on the ocean floor, and as the waters warm, they come up.
it is really that bad, and much worse than you want to believe.
crap like this article is funded by corporations that are panicking over lost revenue.
they are literally killing the world for cash - no overstatement.

Thanks for posting. Hopefully some relevance to bolster the science of global warming, but yet not be alarmist. We must act to remove our dependence on fossil fuels and hopefully slow the progress of our climate change.

It is not just about the Arctic is the fact that the human kind has all the knoweledge and possibilities to make the neccesery changes toward sustainable living and developing in harmony with nature. We try to protect our past and allready obsolete investements. If we do not change our point of view, about us beeing bigger than nature, i am affraid that nature will show us our real powerlessness. We are notthing but a small part of nature, that gives us life and takes it. It is up to every one of us to change our way of thinking and acting. Stay positive. Work with nature, not against it.

How can anyone stop methane from coming out of the Earth?Oh jeez, I hope they don't send BP, Trans-Canada
or Shell to try to Cap it off, they might make it worst.(O_O)
