They just don't make bridges like they used to. Check out the Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis, built in 1883 it is still standing and used by pedestrians and a tram down the river apiece from this terrible tragedy. It could probably still support the Amtrak trains that used to run on it back in the 1970s. It was meant to be used for hundreds of years, until people used flying craft for common transportation, according to the builder, James Hill.
