I Love this idea !! If your like me with a bookshelf that's overflowing then this site is for You. Instead of letting your old favorites collect dust. Pass them along to another reader. Check out their web page to find out more.

"BookCrossing" ... generally a good idea, but seems to be a little cumbersome, too much ado...

Here in Vienna(.at) we have several "open book-cabinets" and at least one KostNixLaden (doesn'T-cost-anything-store) .. where lots of books (and some other media) find new readers, completely bureaucratically

Very good idea - thanks BarbBell - at present I just give my old books to the charity shop, but this is just as goodl.

I thought this line was VERY good "BookCrossing is free to join and free to play. So don't be 'shelf'ish with your books - read and release!"

If ever I have the spare energy I will contact them....

We did this with my dad's books years ago and it was great fun. We left them at busstops, airports, etc. so they could travel the world and we could learn about their journeys.

Natasha, I love books too. But I have way too many.I give to the church's for their flea market sales(, but I wind up buying more than I give.LOL
I have way too many, and think this is pretty good way of passing them on. Once read they just sit in the book shelf and now piled on top and in piles in various places around the house.

Love this idea! We have a bookstore where we can trade books and make some money on them like just a few dollars. My sister, who helps me with ordering books, might think this a bit too much riggamarow to go through, HOWEVER, I will run it past her to see what she thinks. Thank you Barb, my Mama would've loved it!!

I thought I would love this idea, but then when I got into actually trying it, printing the labels, logging each title individually, etc. got to be just so cumbersome. I love sharing my books, but prefer just sending them to whoever I think would enjoy them all at once.

It might be a good idea for some people, but I feel book crossing would be a lout of work. I am already donating books to a library in the condo where I live as well as exchanging books with other book lovers. Usually you only read a book once, unless it is a very special book (author signed it, given at a special occasion, etc.), Then there is if course the tons of books I borrow from the library.
Like David F, in Toronto, especially in the Beaches, we also have several "open book-cabinets".

I give my unwanted books to the charity shop, but this is a great idea, too. Thanks, Barb.
