Show Washington that the public wants our nation to take responsibility for past mistakes and that we do have the stomach for a full investigation. Our chance to learn from, fix and never repeat the policies that brought us torture, illegal detention etc.

Our calls for accountability on torture are being answered.

Hours ago, Senator Patrick Leahy scheduled a hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee entitled Getting to the Truth Through a Nonpartisan Commission of Inquiry next Wednesday at 10am.

We can't help but notice that his announcement came the week following our national call-in week, when thousands of you placed calls to the Senate supporting an independent investigation.

Your calls are providing the public support our champions in Congress need to setup an independent investigation.

Here are two things you can do right now to support Senator Leahy:

1: If you didn't get a chance to call your Senator last week, take 2 minutes to call now. Our new click-to-call tool makes calling your Senators easy and we'll give you a simple script and talking points.

2: Follow-up your call by signing our letter to Congress demanding a full, independent investigation.

Accountability on the move
Senator Patrick Leahy © AFP

Senator Leahy, chairman of the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee takes the first real step towards accountability.

The hearing can either be the beginning or the end of our efforts to find out how we became a nation that tortures. What happens after the hearing depends in large part on us. We need to show the Senate that the public has the stomach for an independent investigation.

Every step our champions like Senator Leahy make toward setting up an independent investigation will bring intense criticism from the other side.

Let's make sure our voices drown out those who prefer to bury the truth.
Let's make sure our voices drown out those who prefer to bury the truth.
Let's make sure our voices drown out those who prefer to bury the truth.

Sincerely,

Njambi Good

Obama seems to have SOLD OUT. He has caved to the pressure to leave 30,000 - 50,000 troops in Iraq and the rest won't leave for 19 months... THere will be no investigation because of the Lincoln policy of forgiving your countrymen who you have beaten, as Lincoln did in the Civil War and Obama did in the election.

We really need to hold these WAR CRIMINALS accountable for the crimes against the people in Iraq and Afghanistan, instead Obama is putting more DEATH and DESTRUCTION into Afghanistan.

So far, I am not too impressed with Obama's war machine mentality, seems to be a continuation of the other Military Industrial Complex's puppet bush&co.

No accountability is not a country of laws, but of rich and powerful people doing whatever the f%$K they want to.

Obama will investigate the bush admin's part in 9-11 (was an inside job) to the media manipulation and lies to go to the Iraq War and torture or he loses respect from the world and I will not vote for him again.

Noted and signed. In his speech earlier this week, President Obama made a forceful statement that we will no longer engage in the likes of torture we have been a party to during the immediate past presidency. I wish that prisoners in Cuba had begun to be immediately removed and appropriately detained where this was still needed, for there are reports that torture has intensified in these days before the official closing of that circle of Hell. Absolutely, this country must learn its truth and follow its truth. Thank you, David, for your unswerving dedication to bringing this about.

Thanks Carolyn...Yes the 'torture' is being hyped up in a last wild fling...I hope that someone there has the good sense to document it...

Where to send the detainees?...U.S. prisons (many) will not accept them...Where to now?...President Obama is an inspiration, long overdue...But who is controlling Obama?...

President Obama is merely a man. He made many promises...before knowing in full detail what he was inheriting. For anyone who thought the troops would come out of Iraq sooner...you should have known better. We all knew Afghanistan would pick up more troops. He is absolutely continuing the Bush policies in this area. I think he has to. Listen I am not for torture, but I lost friends and people I love have been forever changed because of 9/11. I've been changed. I believe those citizens of the world who died that day and those they left behind deserve justice. I don't mean to aggravate anyone, it's just that day is very personal to me and I will never forget. I do not believe it was an inside job. If it is found that this is the case I will be the first to call for justice.

Not in my name said more than 2500 people in the streets of New York when bush&co. were lying their way into the War against Iraq. Their War Crimes in Iraq are stand alone and have nothing at all to do with 9-11. The attack against the WTC towers were staged. Steel does not melt from jet fuel. Jet fuel burns at 1800 when mixed with oxygen and burning without smoke. The fires did not get that hot, yet they melted columns of steel and pulverized cement, making the Trade Towers fall at free fall speed, or the speed of a bowling ball if you threw it off the roof. That is physically impossible.

Check out this link and try the other links after reading and listening to the videos carefully, especially BYU physics professor Dr. Steven A. Jones demonstrating that steel flowed from the Trade Towers not aluminum from thermate demolition charges set off from the plane crash. http://911research.wtc7.net/essays/jones/StevenJones.html

Collection of good information to review:

http://911debunkers.blogspot.com/2009/02/debunking-molten-aluminium-flow-from.html

Review the material on this link. Tell me that the rivers of steel at some 3000 degrees centigrade were created by jet fuel. Tell me that all the columns collapsed below the fires that never were heated from the fires above them. Tell me that the 1st, 2nd, and 3d steel building to collapse in history from fire makes sense.

Finally tell me why building WTC 7 collapsed after the owner said "we decided to pull it" from fires, the third steel building to fall in the history of steel buildings on the 11th day of September, 2001. Tell me because that is why the towers came down too.

Then lets talk about the greatest form of TREASON and that is when a government kills the people it was charged to protect to gain political power, oil resources, and go to war to control the world' oil producing countries.

"Where to send the detainees?...U.S. prisons (many) will not accept them...Where to now?...President Obama is an inspiration, long overdue...But who is controlling Obama?..." Have you seen JFK by Oliver Stone? "It is a riddle, wrapped up in an enigma..." Obfuscate the truth with sworn to lies and falsehoods systematically staged to seem natural and support your alternate explanation to what is really going on...

Nobody is an island. You can't be a politician and not be politically Myered in obligations and promises that move you away from one ideal toward what other powerful people want and their way of seeing things. My hope is this political posturing is just that, Obama is setting up his opposition to agree with him at critical points of change and legislation. He is giving and later he will take what they give, in the form of support. Beyond the politics, Obama is working the cultural landscape of perceptions to represent them and make them his own. A true representative of the people researches what his constituents want and looks at the best way to do it that will, and this is key to bias, please as many of all the people as possible.

This process changes people or their policies, through a flexible adaptation to continue making progress. It isn't a question of who controls Obama, because he is so brilliant and powerful-no one could, but how does his experience in U.S. government and the world shape his ideals and eventual policy construction? We have seen a continuation of bush&co. in Iraq and intensifying bush in Afghanistan : o(

Lets hope this is Obama giving and he will let them try for a while. Then the Iraqis are going to have an election and tell the U.S. to leave. All bases and every troop. Then Obama will pull everything out, he better anyway...

Just for the record, I do not associate 9/11 with Iraq. I never felt right about Iraq. I just know part of what is being said as far as crimes involves the theories of an inside job on 9/11. I still need unbiased truths about that day. I am open minded to what an investigation might bring but until that day I will remain hopeful that our government was not involved. I have read and seen many facts relating to this. I am glad for all your efforts. I believe the truth no matter which way it falls needs to be told, so we can all be made whole again as best as possible. Thank you.

Suzanne ... I once asked a Supreme Court Justice that I worked with ... how much it costs to "seel a judgeship" and he told me to stay in the "little cave that I lived in" because in the real world ... money can buy ANYTHING ...

Blue Bunting .... I hear what you are saying, but I am not stupid to life and the dishonesty and corruption. I am just not convinced. Obviously, trying to insult me seems to give you a superior edge in your beliefs. That is your freedom, same as I have mine. I don't live in a little cave if that is your implication, if not...I apologize for misunderstanding. I will stay off this thread as my being here is not productive to your goals. Thanks again.

Please keep to the topic...Otherwise there is no point in being here...Care2 has been kind enough to provide us with a forum for discussion...Personal attacks, retaliations are futile, non-productive and off-putting for those who may have a lot to contribute but do not because they quite rightly see this and every other thread like it as futile!

Susan, what did you think of Dr. Steven E. Jones' sight?

http://911research.wtc7.net/essays/jones/StevenJones.html

I missed the exchange that caused so much heat and the negative reactions. I am interested in the view that 9-11 was believable and than how intelligent people process real verifiable experimental data that Dr. Jones offers, combined with architects and engineers who have formed a group to express what they believe:
http://www.ae911truth.org/

Please review and express your opinion about the melting of steel or the engineering of steel buildings, fire, and many, many conclusions by experts that the only way those buildings could have come down in free fall time is with demolitions.

Why is there a 1300 degree centigrade thermal image of the 9-11 site 5 days after 9-11 from a satellite image from NASA? "Despite the WTC rubble being pumped with an almost constant jet of water, eventually totaling thousands of gallons, almost 12 weeks after 9/11 at least one fire is still burning, making it the longest-burning structural fire in history."
http://www.historycommons.org/context.jsp?item=a091601hotspots

Remembering that steel melts at 2800 degrees centigrade and jet fuel burns at 1800 degrees, how could the steel melt and collapse?

Why did they find traces inside dust when tested that revealed thermate spectral evidence for the use of thermite. Micro spheres of iron were found in the dust and they contain the metallic residue of thermite called thermate.

If you read the links, you know these assertions are true. The conclusion from knowing these facts is the buildings were intentionally brought down. Do you agree , if not state the facts you disagree with and why with scientific, physics, engineering, or architectural reasoning.

Belief is best tempered with reality and research or the world would still be flat.

Thanks Casey...How many people would be enough to turn the tide?...It would appear to me that this must happen...Is there any other way?...

"Anyone who believes that 9/11 was not staged by our own government is brain dead...Peace. "

We do live in a 'perfect world' but why is it that the very few are unable to put themselves into the shoes of the downtrodden and wonder what right they have to share this planet...Guess it's just greed...But why do they exist among us?...Why do we elect them to govern?...And why do we put up with them when given the power to screw us blind?...

Man o man there were MORE people in the streets protesting the Iraq war in Europe than there ever was for Vietnam or any other. Here in the U.S. big, but fully organized and little covered in the press protests occurred, but nothing like those in Europe.

Obama said 100% of the troops out of Iraq by the end of 2011. Only 50,000 by next summer. Sounds better, but I bet the pull out faster. The thing is the U.S. should not do military in Afghanistan either.

Social science has identified hierarchies in all social species, such as dogs, rats, some primates, and people to name a few. Species survive better when their material needs are met and that is the goal of all individuals of every species. Securing territory and resources is a priority to provide and protect for all species. Our elections are the same kind of hierarchy based social system and the military is like termites, bees, or ants, to wolves, sharks, or lions.

The question is; once we know we are more complicated, but just another social animal trying to survive, can we apply intelligent and more focused behavior to compensate for our animal natures and end competition or macho games that lead to war over territory, resources, or political power to control the group.., and be more humane or use our cortex for intelligence, planning, philosophy, science, and reason, instead of our hypothalamus that controls aggression, sex, hunger, sleep, motor skills, etc.

I mean we do have a choice of how to be human when we know what being human is.

Peace
