What Is Behind Sarah Palin's Resignation: Is She Fleeing Scandal?

US Politics & Gov't  (tags: failin' palin., idiot on the loose, GOP fallout, one per week, dances with wolves, republicans, politics, war, usa )

David
- 125 days ago - alternet.org
It is estimated that the state of Alaska has spent nearly $300 thousand investigating ethics complaints against the Governor. There's no mystery to Sarah Palin's decision. She is merely advancing in a nutter direction? A scandal in the works?

Sarah Palin has announced that she is resigning as Governor of Alaska. At a news conference from her house this morning, the Alaska Governor said that she will give up her post in the next few weeks.

Many observers expected Palin to announce that she was not seeking re-election -- a prediction fueled by recent speculation that the Governor was preparing for 2012 Presidential bid.

But Palin's shocking announcement seems to belie plans for a Presidential run. As Josh Marshall points out at TPM, "Generally, when you run for election to a high office it's understood that you'll stick around to do the job."

The New York Times seems to think that Palin's resignation means she is gearing up to run for President. Mitchell L. Blumenthal writes:

Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska announced Thursday that she would step down by the end of the month and not seek a second term as governor, allowing her to seek the Republican nomination for president in 2012. (Who is in charge of The New York Times, another eternally hopeless RepubliCONNED, must be?...

But many Presidential hopefuls finish up their time in office. And Palin's statement doesn't seem to hint at Presidential ambitions. In fact, the Alaska Governor vaguely stated that she would do more good "outside government", and issued some Nixonian grumblings about the press, according to a reporter at the scene.

(On a hilarious note, if it turns out Palin is fleeing office in the face of something more egregious or scandalous, we would be averaging the loss of one GOP Presidential hopeful per week)

Visit Site?...There is a lot more to read and a CNN video of her press conference (with transcript)..

The following are but a few comments from the site (And, of course in no way reflect my own opinion, you can tell that by the picture I have chosen, can you not? :-)...

Something Fishy============================================================
Posted by: Kitty Lady Oregon on Jul 3, 2009 1:34 PM

I think there is something fishy going on in Palin's life. Perhaps Todd has done something that can be bad for her image, or one of her kids has done another dumb thing. It may just be that she has realized that she has neither the intelligence or wide knowledge to be either governor of a state or president of the US.
Let us all hope that she fades back into the wallpaper.

Show me the MONEY !!!!!!----------------------------------------------------Posted by: gallery on Jul 3, 2009 3:18 PM

lazy, like bush..... attracted to shiny objects, like bush....... the capacity to maul the english language, like bush.

She wasn't in politics for the love of her (alaska) country, she was in it for her ego and the connections to power and money.
She probably figures that books and teevee will make her MORE famous than being POTUS, so why invest all that hard work to achieve her lifelong goal.
She is a vapid little shit, and unfortunately, will not be rid of her anytime soon.

Well, I smell a NASTY SCANDAL brewing here.================================
Posted by: Quannah on Jul 3, 2009 1:46 PM

Because resigning like this is political suicide. She would easily be labeled a "quitter."

She was hardly able to take a breath during her press conference. She seemed very nervous and shaken.

I think she's about to be hit with a horrible scandal, and chose to pre-emptively quit.

It makes no sense. She has been nothing but a scrappy fighter no matter what other scandal hit her in the past, including during her campaign as VP. She fought back with her daughter's pregnancy. She fought back about her scandals with the State of Alaska paying for her children's travel costs. She fought back over the clothes and hair dresser the RNC paid for during her campaign. She fought back as recently as over the David Letterman kerfuffle. She isn't known to sit quiet and keep her mouth shut.

So... it has to be something far worse than what has already gone before.

She probably will pop up on Faux Noose with her own program. She would fit right in perfectly.

Thanks for posting, David! Unfortunately You Tube is down again, so I cannot listen to her hilarious resignation speech. I read how in her speech she maligned former governers who stay their entire term, and continue to serve the people they were charged with serving by saying something like: Well, unlike other governers who waste the state's money by finishing their term, I, angel that I am, am not going to do so. Egads, she could twist any strange, unseemly thing she does to make it sound like she is Mother Teresa! What an obfuscator!

Palin is a sadistic murderer, she loves the NRA and Big Oil, she doesn't care about the environment or wildlife, she wants to take away women's rights, she wants to shove her 'religion' down everyone's throats~separation of church and state be damned, her and her husband 'pal around' with terrorists, she isn't capable of speaking a complete sentence, she lies, she uses her children for her own personal agenda...my God I COULD go on!!! She is breaking her promise to the people of Alaska...one reason I believe is so she can work on and sell her book...$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
I am afraid (unless she is found guilty of something VERY big!) we will be seeing and hearing a lot more from Palin!!!

When you run for office it is assumed you will want to stick around and complete your term, lame duck or not. No excuse can justify the expense to taxpayers for the elections and then her just leaving. If she thinks her political life has been difficult so far this should just about seal it. Thankfully she didn't make higher office, she probably would have discovered it was too hard and left already. What a WACKO

Now I am sure some silly little troll will have a misguided twisted warped ,opinion about what a real woman is and then open it's mouth and keyboard to show us the truth in my statement but we are not hunting witches here I am calling Palin a decietful,Greedy, proven butcher of animals and is clearly anti-life,Palin is a person who thinks from the old worn out ways of looking at the world and it is clear she has lost touch with any part of her own heart or inner voice.Personally I hope she learns to listen to her own heart and discovers she is more than what those neo-con repugs have told her for it is clear she is their puppet.
Obama knows we at Care2 are here and that means so does everyone else.
KUDOS to all the Warriors here-I am proud to know U and be among U.
here is an interesting article on Sarah Palin and the Left-right divide and conquor mentality that we at Care2 deal with on a daily basis-please remember that Ms Palin and others like her are a reprensentation of the sheeple mentality. Democrats and neo-con conservatives who like to use the Old republican conservative party stance as their platform are heads and tails of the same quarter -the Neo-cons love to tell U that they are for God ,Country ,and the American way when NOTHING could be farther from the Truth-They do not represent The American People and those among us who belive in Truth and Freedom-The Democrats would have U believe they are for the people and believe in social justice while they give us token Presidents and insure through token bills that we the people are cared about and nothing ever changes.
Here is how I see it-The Democrats and Republicans have had the power seats in this country 4/ever and this is where we are at today-look aroound U how are we doing here? THROW THEM ALL OUT AND ELECT A DIFFERENT PARTY OR DO NOT VOTE AND MAKE IT A KNOWN POLITICAL STANCE TO THE CORRUPTION THEY ALL ENDORSE AND BRING TO OFFICE!

article below from a site called USNEWS

Despite Palin's Resignation, the GOP Needs Culture Warriors
July 06, 2009 10:51 AM ET | Dan Gilgoff | Permanent Link | Print
By Dan Gilgoff, God & Country

Reihan Salam, an influential young player in the effort to revive the Republican Party, writes this weekend that Sarah Palin's resignation is another sign of the fading culture wars:

What does seem increasingly clear is that Palin's collapse represents the end of a certain kind of politics. If the culture war really is ending, culture warriors like Palin will fade from the scene.

I can hear many mainstream Republicans sharing Salam's sigh of relief. I think they're fooling themselves.

It's wishful thinking by the GOP's non-social conservatives, who want the party to double down on fiscal conservatism—especially now that Democratic spendthrifts are running the country—to regain its competence in governing and to step back from divisive culture war issues.

Rather than marking the twilight of the culture wars, however, the GOP's love/hate relationship with Alaska's outgoing governor illustrates a persistent conundrum for the party: The religious conservatives whom Palin represents are a Republican minority that can't be counted on to deliver the presidency or congressional majorities, and yet they constitute the most crucial part of the party's base.

Republicans can't win with them alone, but they can't win without them.

Successful Republicans like Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush knew this. They mobilized the religious conservative base while managing to transcend it.

Sarah Palin is incapable of such transcendence. But no other Republican in the country touches her power to mobilize, to draw huge crowds. Without that, the Republicans may boast intellectual firepower, governing prowess, and smart messaging and they'll still be out of power. Who will sign up new voters, knock on doors, and make phone calls—who will counter Barack Obama's grass-roots army—in the lead-up to Election Day?

Lots of Republicans know this. It's why the 2012 Republican presidential field is dominated by unabashed culture warriors like Palin, Mike Huckabee, and Newt Gingrich; softer, George W. Bush-style religious conservatives like Bobby Jindal and Tim Pawlenty; and wannabe culture warriors like Mitt Romney.

Palin's resignation isn't a sign of the culture wars' end. Her meteoric rise is a sign that they're still very much with us.

"Republicans can't win with them alone, but they can't win without them.
Successful Republicans like Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush knew this. They mobilized the religious conservative base while managing to transcend it."

This statement to me is very important for they use the religious Conservative base by lYEING to them and they use this base because they have spin doctor propaganda people who make sure all the proper phrases are used to get those religios conservatives on board- My Mother who ALWAYS voted republican who is a religious conservative changed her party because of their lies. If U know a religious conservative -please gently let them know they are being lied to and used.many of these people who are religious conservatives are good people who are of the older generation who are a product of their times and while I do not agree with many of their views-they would be a powerful ally in many ways-some of them are lost causes with the changing their view thing but most would back Ron Paul in many of his stances and THAT is a great improvement over the Neo-con thugs.

Noted and I am very glad that this cave woman resigned, but I remain cautious, because evil know many ways to get to their goal.
And we humans are still in an early stage of evolution.

I gave, indeed a green star to care2 support, because I have noticed that the staff of care2 will always reply, and this I can't say for other staff members from other "care websites"...
Thanks for sharing

There is a logical explanation after all with no mystery involved. Governor Sarah Palin said the following: She is a no-frills governor who wants to get the job done. All the investigations launched, which by the way, have been proven false and have cost the Alaskan taxpayers over two million dollars to respond to the flood of accusations and FOIA requests. Today, most of her time and her staff’s time is spent responding to the constant barrage of criticism and attacks—and the work for the people of Alaska is being neglected.

Based on that alone, she is “passing the ball,” as the good basketball guard she once was, so that the “team,” the conservative movement can win. She wants to keep her focus on what really matters, help the people of Alaska continue on a path of good government, and stop facilitating the time and life-takers of the left.

She said it was difficult. She said it was painful. That doesn’t sound like someone who wants to “quit.” She said her recent visit to the troops was the clincher, referencing their sacrifice and reiterating the theme of remembering what really matters. She was alluding to her own need to step down when she personally didn’t want to, I believe, feeling it was her duty as a statesman and as a duly elected servant of the people of Alaska.

But the higher calling? I don’t think it’s a book deal or a talk show or a new political movement. I believe it’s the heart of a mother who can’t bear to see her children brutalized by a cannibalizing, angry opposition.

What person in public life has ever had her children and family so maligned and attacked so brutally, explicitly and disrespectfully?

Was it Jimmy Carter with his strange little Amy? Or Lyndon B. Johnson with his Bird girls? Or Nixon or Ford or Reagan? Ron Reagan Jr. contributed to his own ridiculousness by appearing in his tighty whities in a parody of Tom Cruise. Jenna and Barbara Bush got a little burnt by reports of underage drinking, but that was quickly stifled. Cindy McCain was trashed for her pain-killer addiction and Teresa Carey for her weird campaign remarks. Barack Obama issued a stern warning to anyone who would ridicule Michelle for her declared shame over the country, but (rightly) not a word was said about his precious girls. Wives and husbands active on the campaign trail are fair game, but not children. That’s the way it has always been and that’s the way it should remain.

Too bad the door was opened wide for debasement, and ridicule, and gutter humor for not just one of Sarah Palin’s children, but for at least three of them. Within days of her selection, Trig was not her baby, but her teenage daughter’s. Then the gleeful news, that Bristol was, in fact, pregnant and unmarried. Throw in a tasteless remark on SNL about Todd committing incest with his girls—things that should not be spoken, much less joked, about have become the norm for the vermin class who hate anyone who loves and tries to represent healthy, whole families.

When the search for sexual indiscretions, pictures, photos, came up short on Palin, she was mocked for her beauty, her voice, her sense of humor and alleged lack of knowledge of public policy. Her interviews were edited, the interviewers powered up to make her look foolish, her McCain “handlers” became her worst enemies … the people she trusted stabbed her in the back.

But the children … David Letterman described Governor Sarah Palin, the ultimate beautiful lady, mother of 5, grandmother of 1, wife of a man who loves her dearly, dressing like a “slutty flight attendant.” But to go yet lower, joked about her 14-year-old daughter being “knocked up” by Alex Rodriguez at a Mets Game. His apology was that he thought it was the 18-year-old daughter, the young single mom, and not the younger. Only a sick mind could tell the difference.

And then the mockery of Trig, baby Trig … Down syndrome Trig. Altering his photo … blogging inexpressibly profane remarks about his birth and leaving them on the Web site for over week, despite complaints. Perhaps this was the last straw.

“I think much of it [her family’s counsel to step down] had to do with the kids seeing their baby brother mocked by some pretty mean-spirited adults recently,” Palin explained in her resignation speech. “By the way, sure wish folks could ever, ever understand that we all learn so much from someone like Trig—I know he needs me, but I need him even more … what a child can offer to set priorities right—that time is precious … the world needs more ‘Trigs,’ not fewer, ” she said.

It’s no mystery why Sarah Palin stepped down now to stop the waste of time and money for the Alaskan people and to quench the infliction of pain on her family. If the love of the governor for her state and the mother for her children causes her to step down and become a “quitter,” then may her kind of “quitting” increase.

"Sarah Palin stepped down now to stop the waste of time and money for the Alaskan people and to quench the infliction of pain on her family."

She stepped down because she is inadequate as a governor, is broke and can't stand the fire of politics. The woman is incapable of sustained thinking in this field. Artificial, superficial, a liar, and not even a good mother, she was no doubt told to step down or fears an exposure. Her career in politics is over. She will write books, try TV or something else, but politics is over for this fraud.

"It’s no mystery why Sarah Palin stepped down"...You got that bit right Nancy but Marion got the rest right...I guess all that is left to do before this thread closes forever is to put a politically correct diagnosis to Sarahs' condition...I would suggest PBS (Post Birth Stupidity)...

Despite rumors of a looming controversy after the Republican governor's surprise announcement Friday that she would leave office this month, some of them published in the blogosphere, the FBI's Alaska spokesman said the bureau had no investigation into Palin for her activities as governor, as mayor or in any other capacity.

"There is absolutely no truth to those rumors that we're investigating her or getting ready to indict her," Special Agent Eric Gonzalez said in a phone interview Saturday. "It's just not true." He added that there was "no wiggle room" in his comments for any kind of inquiry.

Sorry folks,
But until that woman leaves the office offically...I will keep posting her agenda on a daily basis. I live here...it's my state, and she sure as heck is a game player as she began whe she first gained office. Even her supporters have left her.
She now is acting like a media queen. Like that hasn't been her whole point since McCain chose her as his sidekick. She started out as a tv reporter..and now she'll be followed like star. Goodbye and don't let the door hit you in the rear end as you leave.
