A political-economic oligarchy has taken over the United States of America. This oligarchy has institutionalized a body of law that protects businesses at the expense of not only the common people but the nation itself. Happy Independence day?

David, could you explain to me why you (from AUstralia) and Judy Cross (from Canada) are so concerned about the U$A ... you post mostly about a country that is not your own ... are you not allowed to criticise your own public officials?

America’s youthful students are regularly taught Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and are familiar with its peroration, “we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government: of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” If that nation ever existed, it no longer does. And when Benjamin Franklin was asked, “Well, Doctor, what have we got—a Republic or a Monarchy?” he answered, “A Republic, if you can keep it.” We haven’t. What we have ended up with is merely an Unpublic, an economic oligarchy that cares naught for either the nation or the public.

To argue that the United States of America is a failed state is not difficult. A nation that has the highest documented prison population in the world can hardly be described as domestically tranquil. A nation whose top one percent of the people have 46 percent of the wealth cannot by any stretch of the imagination be said to be enjoying general welfare (“generally true” means true for the most part with a few exceptions). A nation that spends as much on defense as the rest of the world combined and cannot control its borders, could not avert the attack on the World Trade Center, and can not win its recent major wars can not be described as providing for its common defense. How perfect the union is or whether justice usually prevails are matters of debate, and what blessings of liberty Americans enjoy that peoples in other advanced countries are denied is never stated. A nation that cannot fulfill its Constitution’s stated goals surely is a failed one. How else could failure be defined? By allowing people with no fastidious loyalty to the nation or its people to control it, by allowing them to disregard entirely the Constitution’s preamble, the nation could not avoid this failure. The prevailing economic system requires it.

Woody Guthrie sang, “This Land Is My Land, This Land Is Your Land,” but it isn’t. It was stolen a long time ago. Although it may have been “made for you and me,” people with absolutely no loyalty to this land now own it. It needs to be taken, not bought, back! America needs a new birth of freedom, it needs a government for the people, it needs a government that puts people first, but it won’t get one unless Americans come to realize just how immoral and vicious our economic system is.

A) I cannot speak for Judy, but I see no problem with my posting artcles on US policy, why do you? (globalization is here, the US is no longer "God" alone!)...The articles I have posted are generally lifted from US non-mainstream news sources and re-posted on care2 (and other sites) in the interest of bringing the "real news" to the forefront in the best interests of the American and global readers here...Why?...Because I am fully aware that the majority of mainstream US news sources are self(?) censored in favour of their corporate owners and are not necessarily in the best interests of the general population...

Take this "news item as a glowing example...You will NOT read this in the New York Times et al...Why?...It is definitely NOT in the best interests of their corporate owners?...But it is something that "We the Sheeple" should be infinately aware of?...I thought that you might agree, given that your faulty? keyboard always substitutes $ signs for S's?...Am I wrong, or does this give reason for me to deduce that you consider that the almighty dollar should not rule the hearts and heads of eveyone?...(People vs Oligarchy?)...

A) Only yesterday I posted an article condemning the Oz governments' ridiculous war funding policy...You have noted this news item but left no comment...Do you have selective amnesia?...

Finally, Decisions or policies originating in the US frequently filter down and affect global politics...The same in Australia generally affects only Australians with very little, if any, fallout beyond our shores...Consequently, nipping the story in the bud is not only good for Australia, it is good for you?...

I trust that your questions have been answered to your satisfaction?...

In conclusion: There is a "topic" here, let's stick to it?...Cheers!

David, it's not that I have a problem with you posting about U.S. policy but you don't seem to care much about discussing your own country's issues, why is that?

I for one am very grateful to David for raising awareness about US issues which are ignored by most of the mainstream media. I don't live in the USA either (and am very happy about it) but the US government and actions have affected countless countries and areas worldwide. Unfortunately too often in the worst possible ways.
So thank you David.

As for Australian news, including aboriginal news, they are not hard to find (I get a lot via KOLA International mailing list, for example), plus they usually don't affect other countries that much - at least not as the US issues that David posts about.

Blue, I suppose I have to plead guilty too. But because the policies of the US Government and major US Corporations/Banking have such far reaching affects on "friend " and foe alike, I do not feel so constrained. I have to admit, I have rewritten posts because I felt I was "talking" to real American folk, not , the sheeple or the criminal elements of industry, banking or government officials with their noses in the trough.This element doesn't represent the "salt of the earth" American people. Speaking for myself, I do not criticize our American cousins, but the policies and practices, and those who implement, support or encourage these policies of your government and Big Industrial concerns. Particularly the war and banking industries.also the policies that have such a devastating effect on our farmers. You even have major military bases here- mostly secret, and appears to have influence on policy in our government.. Your military have exercises here where DU ammunition is used on our soil. WE are NOT happy about this at all, and OUR government deny anything is wrong...sound familiar.
From what I see on these posts, there is a general unhappiness with many policies including, the wars and the death and sickness of your soldiers, the lies and manipulation by your media and politicians and the police state mentality, including your loss of freedoms, access to health care, health insurance, the swine flue debacle and proposed forced immunization, your education, housing and employment......and more.

When you went to vote recently, you were not just voting for you, your family and nation, but you were voting for us too.....your country has such an affect on the world. WE all watched the theatrics of your election process and the personalities, voting, the counting, watching to see if your election was being hijacked as in previous elections. It is a crying shame, that it hasn't made too much difference though.... We used to only have a passing casual interest....but times sure have changed.

Keep them coming David.

I for one give high marks to David B for posting US.issues,no one else seem to be doing it. Drinking too fluoridated water by the sheeple I presume.He appears bright,keen and quick with a joke.Keep-up the good work David B.

An outside view is often more valuable than say, "someone from Kansas".
Many Americans are still blind sighted what has happened to our freedoms and liberty.
Too many Americans still think Bush is a hero.
If not America influencing the world and other countries, next it will be China and no one will be commenting.

Like ghost towns, and I find it all a bit scary. No one was out.

Yes David I'm a supporter as well. I love your contributions(and I don't live in the US either, glad to be a Dutch citizen). I have one question now: could you please forward a few book titles related to your main argument? And also, there's been much talk about a book by Dick Morris (by the title of "Catastrophe"), alledgedly exposing the so-called disastrous nature of Obama's policies. Of course, this iis nothing short of a smear campaign by spiteful conservative folk who can't wait to see Obama stumble and fail. So, my question is where is the rebuttal? Who has written a really good book or article exposing the real agenda behind the Conservative Republican bashing of Obama? Thanks very much David.

US foreign policy, corporations, "free market", wars, do affect the rest of the world. Also the recessioin started in the US and has impacted around the world.
