Help us remind President Obama that part of the reason he won the presidency was his plan to enact major health care reform that included a public option, a provision that 76% of Americans support...In Obama we trust, should we?...Sign the petition!

President Obama needs to hear from us about the public option.

If we don't make a stand now for a public option, the Obama administration may hedge on its plan for health care reform.

This weekend, the Obama administration indicated that it might be open to passing health care reform without any provision for a public insurance option similar to Medicare that could compete with private insurance companies.

President Obama said that a public option was just a "sliver" of his plan and Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius went so far as to say that the public option was not an "essential" part of reform.

The comments this weekend by the president and Secretary Sebelius rhetorically pave the way for the Obama administration to cave on a meaningful public option and instead accept toothless regional health care co-ops that would be unable to compete with insurance companies and keep them honest.

Help us remind President Obama that part of the reason he won the presidency was his plan to enact major health care reform that included a public option...

The petition reads:

President Obama:

When it comes to health care reform, the public option is not optional. You campaigned on change and on a health care plan that included a public option. But aside from single payer, a health care bill without a robust public option is just more of the same. If you are sincere about supporting the public plan, tell Congress and the voters that you will not sign a bill without a robust public option similar to Medicare.

Signed. Thanks David.

I just signed a petition to tell President Obama that the public option is not optional and that he should tell Congress and the voters that he will not sign a bill without a robust public option similar to Medicare.

NO Compromise on HEALTHCARE! AMERICANS "DEMAND" THAT "THEIR" WILL BE DONE, not the will of insurers and their ilk! "We" American's are entitled to a fair, free choice, no obstacles what-so-ever, HEALTHCARE program.....Nothing else will suffice!

END health care for profit NOW.

If profit was removed, healthcare would greatly improve to include alternative healthier and less expensive treatments. As it stands now......there is a big cow and many people trying to get up there to milk it.

Hopefully they can come to an amicable arrangement that would suit all parties at the end of the day from all walks of life... that would be fair and resonable

Many thanks for signing guys...Just a quick little story to bring a smile to your faces in a moment of gloom?...

David Buchan has been suspended from care2 for reason or reasons unknown...(Some people have absolutely NO sense of humour)...And so I, Grigori Rasputin, felt obliged to fill his shoes in the interim...Should he be reinstated, I will go away...

Well folks, if the trolls can re-invent themselves, so can David! :-)...David and I wish you the very best and if you were on his 'friend' list he would very much appreciate a new friend request from you...

If you cannot see where this is coming from, don't bother because David has a sense of humour and you don't...Luv ya kiddies! XO :-)

And you're still on my friends' list so I guess you weren't suspended for long. How could they, when you're the spirit of the Care2 "party" and make such a difference!

PS: Bye bye Grigori, it was nice to meet you :) many stars to you too and your sense of humor!

"Many promoters of health-care reform believe that people have an intrinsic ethical right to health care—to equal access to doctors, medicines and hospitals. While all of us empathize with those who are sick, how can we say that all people have more of an intrinsic right to health care than they have to food or shelter? Health care is a service that we all need, but just like food and shelter it is best provided through voluntary and mutually beneficial market exchanges. A careful reading of both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution will not reveal any intrinsic right to health care, food or shelter. That's because there isn't any. This "right" has never existed in America."

Blue while I admire you and your steadfast will I would humbly disagree with you..The 14th amendment speaks volumes about this issue if we but read it and what the framers were getting at when they wrote it.

America is in free fall! The average citizen is not responsible for inflation. Crooked legislators. Corrupt, underhanded, corporations, who have demanded their pound of flesh and indeed got a payload from US in the form of Bailout.. Gr$$d has kept the playing field lopsided. Polluted waters and air now cause health problems. The framers did not advocate that the playing field should be lopsided. For that matter the framers did not write anything into the constitution about bailing out the wealthy..We did!

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness

The famous phrase is based on the writings of English writer John Locke, who expressed that "no one ought to (harm) another in his life, health, liberty, or possessions."[1]

I do believe health care is a moral issue for all Americans. I just can't keep listening to other that bring up our guilding documents due to the small fact of firearms. When this was written, all they had was gunpowder and ball or some obsolete form of a gun but sinlge shot none the less. ( not much protection in my eyes but pretty equal to other white people that had firearms). They didn't have many, if at all, doctors during those days especially out "west" (not to be confused with the west coast since they hadn't gone that far). These documents are a guild to be updated as needed. Their life expectency was very short, our very long. The basics are okay for the time but not now, as I said, the world has change too much. I read them as a guild without breaking the basic thought.
Health care is moral. Fellow citizens suffering and dying with no health care is moral. It is up to us as Americans to help our own FIRST, and then other nations. Show me where our documents say we must break the back of All of America to help other nations first. Where does it say all our tax monies go for a war that deprives Americans of health, a war most of us want to stop. I am not being arguementative, just an observation. I am a human being and feel it my duty to help those in need. Yes, have given money to drunks on the street because they NEED a drink and I am not here to judge them (although alcoholism ran rampant in my own family and I hated every single day of it).
I believe in morals and scruples and my word is my worth. If I preach they need medical, then I should be willing to help them, which I have done many times before. To me, this is a life and death issue. My sister had ovarian cancer and after 3 years, they refused to treat her until her out of pocket expenses were paid for the year. Her children paid it for her and she live 2 more years. That my friend is pursuit of happiness and life. Liberty was curtailed due to costs. Please don't try and say health has nothing to do with life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. Have you ever tried to do something after chemo? She did, she worked for 2 years while vomiting all week.
