It's been going on a long time and people are distracted by big shiny things (tvs, suvs, lawnmowers with 3 times the engine necessary, leaf blowers, McMansions and on and on and on) the average American is selfish, intentionally ignorant and all of us including their own kids are suffering for it.

Sheep.

Lemmings.

Morons.

They LOVED Ronnie Reagan, they loved him when the economy was stepped on by his policies, they loved him when he gutted the EPA and pulled money from the schools.

Then they loved every President since, and unless people wake up we are in some SERIOUS shape.

China could call in their loans to us and take us over without one drop of blood and that could very easily happen and I would say is the obvious plan of the multinational corporations and banks that run the show. The US has a lot to offer (labor that will be cheap, natural resources, room) and the best way to conquer and take over a nation is to make them destroy themselves and to take away the ability of any of those that can still think from being a problem by gutting the economy---------it's awfully hard to resist if you're family is starving---------.

But they still sit and watch tv, spray toxic chemicals on their lawn so as not to have weeds and they don't replace trees and they don't stay aware and they don't speak up and they don't care one single bit about anybody or anything.

They don't even care about themselves, because we all told them the economy was going to go down with us borrowing money from China to wage war on 2 countries that didn't attack us and they didn't listen, We all told them the economy was going to go down due to Bush (and prior Presidents) policies but they didn't listen.

And now one out of 10 has no job, but they can't even bring themselves to admit it was actually their own fault because they and everyone left the government and corporations to do whatever they wanted and the idea of a country "Of, By and For the People" was ignored and that's like leaving a room full of children alone with knives, matches and your credit cards and going out to go play golf and coming back expecting things to be all right, but when you get back you find your house burnt down, the cat stabbed to death and your bank account empty.

The Average American is a tall 5 year old. Mentally a 5 year old, Emotionally a drooling infant. But tall enough and (by appearance only) mature enough to be able to help destroy our planet by indifference and breeding and consuming.

Land of the Free and Home of the BRAVE?

Give me a break.

Everyone needs to speak up. We need to wake up our neighbors.

And I'll tell you one group that should have been MUCH more vocal about many things much longer ago and that is preachers and rabbis and all religions.

If they stood up there and told people they needed to actually DO something about the problems maybe it would wake up a large percentage of the population, but with the amount of people I see going in houses of worship compared to the amount of people with signs against the war or the amount of signatures on petitions or the amount of people planting trees....obviously almost all (not all but almost all) people that go to worship do it for whatever reason, but that reason has nothing whatsoever to do with love and compassion.

Wake up and open your mouths.

Very well said, it makes me sick too. As long as Americans get to have their huge SUV's, cheap gas, guns and gadgets, they don't seem to give a damn. And what did it take to get Americans to part with their gas guzzling, oil-war necessitating, ostentatious penis surrogate mobiles? They had to be hit where it hurts Americans the worst.....in the pocket book. Common sense, the environment, the safety of others on the road and the Iraq war weren't enough. Sad.

Its global .... I wish it was only in the US. Europe is the same, and becoming scarier by the month.... and Israel, same super capitalist country as the US, also in a war, also profiting from home security. Here the political and military Elite rule, in the states it's the same....

The European Lisabon Treaty was rejected by the European people. The elites there got upset, and just kept on holding referendums (Ireland) until YES was voted, and in Holland it was rejected the first time, and the second time, the government said we will choose for the people.

Bank bailouts in Europe have been just as large as in the states.

In other words, believe me, I know, i live in Israel, sometimes in Holland and sometimes in Canada.
All have the American Idol (local version), and yes, right winged fundamentalism is getting worse everywhere.
The Elites have always prefered fascism over socialism, so they can retain their power and wealth.

Well I for one am not ashamed of my new car lawnmower snowblower nor my house. I've worked all my life & yes I deserve a piece of the American dream I earned it.When you've walked a mile in my shoes then you can gripe to me about my belongings that BTW no one gave me.
