Hundreds of thousands of people die every year as a result of armed violence and consequences of irresponsible arms transfers. The diplomats meeting at the UN tomorrow owe it to them, their families and communities, to take the next big step, a treaty.

Take advanced killing technology, add in a system where the bottom line is God..this is the carrot for the weak and easily seduced darkside of humanity.
While the worlds biggest purchaser's of arm's,namely the neo-cons built up the debts of America, they preached Christianity...yet plough shares into swords will not go.

It's been said that when fascism reaches America,
it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.
Fascism IS in America, and that description is not far
from the truth. People have been killing people in God's name
for thousands of years, while Jesus the Christ has commanded
us to love others in God's name. Perhaps one day this simple truth
will sink into people's heads, and news stories like this will become a
part of the dear departed past.
Thanks, David.

'You do not have permission to view this message.'

Does anyone else get that message on their change.org message page when they clink on the link to this story that David provided?

Are you folks commenting on the 'story', or Davids' 'headline? There is no story.

MJ M. "old boy", YOU have a major problem :-)...

I apologise to all who could not access the link...Don't know why, so here is the story...

from Control Arms 10/29/09 @ 07:30AM

World biggest arms exporters set to agree the launch of Arms Trade Treaty negotiations tomorrow...

Tomorrow the world's governments will take a potentially historic vote at the UN. They are set to decide to launch formal negotiations on an international Arms Trade Treaty to regulate the international trade in conventional arms.

Earlier this month Hillary Clinton announced that the US will support a "strong and robust" Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) with the "highest possible, legally binding standards".

Hundreds of thousands of people die every year as a result of armed violence and consequences of irresponsible arms transfers. The diplomats meeting at the UN tomorrow owe it to them, their families and communities, to take the next big step towards a treaty.

Tomorrow they have the choice to press the green button to start negotiations. They must not fail.

For up-to-date news from campaigners and diplomats at the UN and around the world please visit www.conflictvoice.org or follow @conflictvoice on Twitter.

OK with you MJ M.?

Incidentally should you "visit site" and find it interesting (you may be asked to sign in to see it, but please don't hesitate, you are not obliged to receive emails if you so nominate)...

I have a drip feed of ticker tape from Reuters et al here and only post threads that I feel should be public knowledge (but generally are not)...Most of the rational ones end up on change.org, so why not consider subscribing?...Sure beats the daily ration of Faux Gnus!...?

And NO, I have no vested interest in change.org...

David, where's the story on change.org? They tell me that there has been no problem with the site being down. I've searched everywhere. Wouldn't it be in the 'War and Peace' categoy?

This isn't change.org

David Gould (146)
Friday October 30, 2009, 7:16 pm
How likely is it that arms dealers are going to agree to limited their sales and enter into a voluntary agreements or treaties?

I only pose the question as a matter of intellectual curiosity. I thought it was hard wired into the American Psyche that to be allowed to bear arms was their God given right...even part of their constitution.

Before Hilary pushes any of those green buttons she needs to see what her husband has been up to as he emailed me last night.

Personally I would love to see an embargo on the production of arms...especially landmines, cluster bombs and dense inert metal bombs...before we even dare to mention nuclear stuff...then I suppose we need to tackle all the fake AK 47s that are flooding the markets at present...they work after a fashion but can still be lethal even it only to those that fire them.

Wow David! 814 stories submitted. You must have a heck of a lot of experience posting news stories. But you say you '.. apologise to all who could not access the link...Don't know why.'

Neither does change.org. A search on change.org for 'Control Arms 10/29/09 @ 07:30AM ' comes up with nothing.
Where's the link to the 'change.org story that you couldn't get right in the begining?

World's Biggest Arms Traders Promise Global Arms Treaty
Today at the United Nations after years of discussions and debates, the vast majority of governments – 153 in total - agreed a timetable to establish a “strong and robust” Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) with the “highest common standards” to control international transfers of conventional arms. There is currently no global Treaty on the conventional arms trade.

Try it MJ M....You might like to break out of hounding me and you might even enjoy the story?

Oh, I've read that story, on conflictvoice. I just want an explanation why you would send us to change.org., when there is no story., knowing it would take members to their personal messages page. Someone with your knowledge surely knows these things. Superimpose the x-ray photo you chose to grace the story. 2 + 2 = ?

It's a simple enough question...where's the original link? You wouldn't be hiding something, would you?

well now we know why this was attached to the hate crimes bill:

October 30, 2009
WASHINGTON: President Barack Obama Wednesday signed the fiscal 2010 National Defence Authorization Act during a ceremony at the White House.

Obama hailed the act, which contains $680.2 billion in military budget authority, as transformational legislation that targets wasteful defence spending.

The authorization act contains $130 billion to fund overseas contingency operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and it also provides $6.7 billion for thousands of all-terrain, mine-resistant, ambush-protected vehicles now arriving in Afghanistan.

The president was accompanied by Vice President Joe Biden, congressional leaders and other senior officials, including Defence Secretary Robert M. Gates and Navy Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

“There’s still more waste we need to cut; there’s still more fights that we need to win,” Obama said, noting he and Gates will continue to seek out unnecessary defence spending.

Obama said he has ended unnecessary no-bid defence contracts and signed bipartisan legislation to reform defence procurement practices so weapons systems’ costs do not spin out of control. “Even as we have made critical investments in equipment and weapons our troops do need, we’re eliminating tens of billions of dollars in waste we don’t need,” Obama said.
....
“As commander in chief, I will always do whatever it takes to keep the American people safe to defend this nation,” Obama said. “That’s why this bill provides for the best military in the history of the world.”
....
Money also is budgeted to fund programs that address “real and growing threats,” Obama said. Such systems, he said, include the F-35 Lightning II joint strike fighter, the littoral combat ship, and more helicopters and reconnaissance support for deployed U.S. forces.

Obama praised Gates and Mullen for their hard work in developing the 2010 defence budget. “I want to thank, publicly, Bob Gates for his service to our nation,” he said, and he added that Mullen has “provided wise counsel and stood with us in our efforts to initiate reform.”

Yes this was the $680 BILLION dollar "Defense package" that was attached to the "Hate crimes bill"
Looks like Obama didn't want to deal with the U.N. on this one, well at least he is an equal opportunity LIAR!

Thanks Ray, for the link. David has been saying that the story is on change.org, but curiously, he won't supply the link.
The link above the picture is wrong. And as you point out, correctly I might add, this isn't about GUNS. So, it appears that not only is the link confusing, so is the picture. That sure looks like a GUN to me, shoved in the guys mouth. David's been going for the shock value with his choice of pictures on other articles he aslo posts, no matter how unrelated to the story.

David, I'm still waiting for the link to your original story on change.org. You insist it's there, why won't you supply it?
