Sarah Palin -- What a Schmuck Who cares if she feels she has checked off her personal laundry list of things to do? You don't quit just because you want to pursue a new ambition.

I'll never understand the fascination people have on this website with Sarah Palin. Its a rare day that she doesn't have a headline on here. What's the deal? She was a VP candidate on a losing ticket. Trivia - name the last 5 losing vp candidates. Most probably can't name the last 2 (after Palin) but we continue to promote her incessantly. Who cares?

Ahhh... I say as I am jumping for joy. Is Little Sarah afraid of getting heat when the oil deal falls through from all those who voted her sorry butt into office? I'd shed a tear for you, witch but, I am all cried out.

Hey, don't call her a witch, that is an insult to all witches! I agree with Mark G. Who cares? Will it stop all she started? Will it save the wolves? Will it stop all her oil buddies? Will it save the forests she was handing over to logging interests? Obama was voted in and we still haven't gotten back even one of the many rights Bush took away from the American citizens. Wolves were still delisted. I could go on about environment devastation that needs to stop and reverse. Want to talk about coal mining? Which Obama seems to back. And the engine still moves forward, maybe slower, but it hasn't stopped.

Best news of 2009 as long as she gets out of politics completely & as such, I am sure the polar bears are happy to hear this as well as long as any other animal or sea creatures on the planet. However, I don't trust her and will just hope it is true she is going back to her igloo and watch Russia for us off her back porch.

Mark G. Please do not under-estimate the readers of Care2. You did when you wrote:
name the last 5 losing vp candidates. Most probably can't name the last 2 (after Palin) .
I cannot name anyone after Palin because there was no election, but BEFORE Palin, I
remember 2004 Edwards; 2000, Lieberman; 1996 Jack Kemp; 1992 Dan Quayle; 1988 Lloyd Bentsen
("Mr. Quayle, you are no Jack Kennedy!") In my opinion, most of the above were pretty bad, but I am sorry that the Democrats lost in 2000 and 2004. This would have been a much better country and world if in 2000 the Supreme Court had not crowned George W. Bush as king, and in 2004 if the American people had come to their senses and not voted for the super-wealthy and oil interests. As for Palin, she is important. Very important! She proves that we live in an insane country because, in spite of McCain's rubber stamping an outgoing president who was responsible for the worst economic condition since the great depression; and McCain's choosing a psychotic, lying, ultra bimbo, they still got 43% of the vote. There are some people who, no matter what, would never vote for an African-American. If I were not so old, I would leave this country. Its voters are really dangerous.

Mark G., she is followed on this Web site because of her barbaric history when it comes to animals and the environment. if there were a top 10 list of most wanted politicians who are responsible for acts of terrorism against animals and the environment, Palin would be near the top, if not at the top.

This an evil woman with no moral or ethical values who has no conscience. She needs to be watched closely.

Janene Boe: I agree with you about the rights that Obama has still not restored to us. He has a good heart, but you cannot please everyone, and he is trying to win over his enemies. He never will. He'd better try to keep his friends. What's the sense of closing Guantanamo when you hold prisoners without evidence or a trial? Even our own Supreme Court says they have rights of due process. We know where Palin stands on all this. Alaskans move up to wild animal habitats, then kills the animals. Palin does not believe in peaceful coexistence with other creatures. I bet that Levi Johnston is thrilled to be out of that crazy. lying, family. Of course, he wants to see his child. Sarah was nice to him when she needed him to be on her side for the election. She avoided fights with him then. Then, look how she changed. You cannot trust anyone like that, and the people of Alaska are finding out that she is not a person of her word. No matter how she spins it, she promised to serve her term as governor, and her word means nothing! I knew she was a liar when she did not tell Katy Couric that she did not know the names of the newspapers because she doesn't read them. I would have respected her more.

If you think you've heard the LAST of Sarah, you're mistaken. The lady thinks she's the answer to the world's problems. Her ego is HUMONGOUS, and she will not rest until she's done everything she knows how (which is admittedly VERRRY little) to try to convince us that SHE is really the one who "walks on water".

I am so glad that Cynthia, Joycey, and GL Evans have censured Fact M's post for his/her language. Just because we happen to disagree with the other person's opinion is no reason to be rude and insulting. Fact, you must look into your own personality and try to understand why you react so angrily to opinions that do not attack you personally. Around me, I have so many people who have completely opposite views from mine, but unless they do something really offensive, I have no reason to attack them personally. At times, I feel that their opinions are really stupid, but the people are not stupid for having stupid opinion.. There are many things that influence our opinions. I have even said, on this thread, that with the electorate of 2004, my beloved USA has become a dangerous place. In 2008, the 43% that McCain got is just unbelievable to me. Just having Palin on the ticket! And McCain's history? A war hero? He was a prisoner of war, not a hero. His actions and his words have always been contradictory. Just saying that he liked Palin was either the biggest lie of his campaign, or he was more blind than I had ever thought. McGovern, way back when---I cannot remember the year---dumped his VP first choice because Thomas Eagleton had had a history of getting psychiatric therapy. Certainly, McCain could have dumped her early on the basis of her being a lying bimbo. But he didn't!

She might just be protecting her own family from tasteless late night talk show hosts. She has done some stupid things -- that the news media grabbed on too. I have done some stupid things but I am a private person I am listening to her comment right now and she is making it very clear that her resignation deals more with her family than future political plans. Her action towards the wolves is appalling and very public. Her work with the indigenous peoples of Alaska is commendable and has never been mentioned by the national media..

There is a logical explanation after all with no mystery involved. Governor Sarah Palin said the following: She is a no-frills governor who wants to get the job done. All the investigations launched, which by the way, have been proven false and have cost the Alaskan taxpayers over two million dollars to respond to the flood of accusations and FOIA requests. Today, most of her time and her staff’s time is spent responding to the constant barrage of criticism and attacks—and the work for the people of Alaska is being neglected.

Based on that alone, she is “passing the ball,” as the good basketball guard she once was, so that the “team,” the conservative movement can win. She wants to keep her focus on what really matters, help the people of Alaska continue on a path of good government, and stop facilitating the time and life-takers of the left.

She said it was difficult. She said it was painful. That doesn’t sound like someone who wants to “quit.” She said her recent visit to the troops was the clincher, referencing their sacrifice and reiterating the theme of remembering what really matters. She was alluding to her own need to step down when she personally didn’t want to, I believe, feeling it was her duty as a statesman and as a duly elected servant of the people of Alaska.

But the higher calling? I don’t think it’s a book deal or a talk show or a new political movement. I believe it’s the heart of a mother who can’t bear to see her children brutalized by a cannibalizing, angry opposition.

What person in public life has ever had her children and family so maligned and attacked so brutally, explicitly and disrespectfully?

Was it Jimmy Carter with his strange little Amy? Or Lyndon B. Johnson with his Bird girls? Or Nixon or Ford or Reagan? Ron Reagan Jr. contributed to his own ridiculousness by appearing in his tighty whities in a parody of Tom Cruise. Jenna and Barbara Bush got a little burnt by reports of underage drinking, but that was quickly stifled. Cindy McCain was trashed for her pain-killer addiction and Teresa Carey for her weird campaign remarks. Barack Obama issued a stern warning to anyone who would ridicule Michelle for her declared shame over the country, but (rightly) not a word was said about his precious girls. Wives and husbands active on the campaign trail are fair game, but not children. That’s the way it has always been and that’s the way it should remain.

Too bad the door was opened wide for debasement, and ridicule, and gutter humor for not just one of Sarah Palin’s children, but for at least three of them. Within days of her selection, Trig was not her baby, but her teenage daughter’s. Then the gleeful news, that Bristol was, in fact, pregnant and unmarried. Throw in a tasteless remark on SNL about Todd committing incest with his girls—things that should not be spoken, much less joked, about have become the norm for the vermin class who hate anyone who loves and tries to represent healthy, whole families.

When the search for sexual indiscretions, pictures, photos, came up short on Palin, she was mocked for her beauty, her voice, her sense of humor and alleged lack of knowledge of public policy. Her interviews were edited, the interviewers powered up to make her look foolish, her McCain “handlers” became her worst enemies … the people she trusted stabbed her in the back.

But the children … David Letterman described Governor Sarah Palin, the ultimate beautiful lady, mother of 5, grandmother of 1, wife of a man who loves her dearly, dressing like a “slutty flight attendant.” But to go yet lower, joked about her 14-year-old daughter being “knocked up” by Alex Rodriguez at a Mets Game. His apology was that he thought it was the 18-year-old daughter, the young single mom, and not the younger. Only a sick mind could tell the difference.

And then the mockery of Trig, baby Trig … Down syndrome Trig. Altering his photo … blogging inexpressibly profane remarks about his birth and leaving them on the Web site for over week, despite complaints. Perhaps this was the last straw.

“I think much of it [her family’s counsel to step down] had to do with the kids seeing their baby brother mocked by some pretty mean-spirited adults recently,” Palin explained in her resignation speech. “By the way, sure wish folks could ever, ever understand that we all learn so much from someone like Trig—I know he needs me, but I need him even more … what a child can offer to set priorities right—that time is precious … the world needs more ‘Trigs,’ not fewer, ” she said.

It’s no mystery why Sarah Palin stepped down now to stop the waste of time and money for the Alaskan people and to quench the infliction of pain on her family. If the love of the governor for her state and the mother for her children causes her to step down and become a “quitter,” then may her kind of “quitting” increase.

Well, Nancy L., that's quite a catalogue of wrongs done TO Sarah Palin you have listed here. And it's unfortunate that this is the way "politics" is/are done, even in this most blessed of countries.
BUT ... I'm sure if one were to add up the wrongs done TO Obama and HIS family, we'd have an equally long catalogue ... if not longer ... about how he has been treated by the "opposition"

So, don't cry to me for Sarah, (either here or in Argentina, as it were). She has been terribly at fault in her own demise. Like most politicians, the lady is over-filled with ego, but since she can't take the heat, she might as well get out of the "political kitchen" while her star is still shining among a lot of Republicans.
She'll now try to make a fortune with her book deal, speaking engagements, possible Fox News show, etc., to help her family out of its financial morass. Go for it, Sarah! I hope you do well there. Just please don't try to pretend you can lead this country as our next PRESIDENT. Okay?

Nancy L: Thanks for the talking points of the Sarah Palin Club. First she lied about millions of dollars being spent for as she says frivolous lawsuits. It was more like 100s of 1000s of dollars and also the majority of these lawsuits did not come from east coast dems or liberals but most came from within the State of Alaska by republicans and with good reason.

She may have resigned because she did not have the support of the legislature anymore, it would not be easy as Alaska is in economic trouble like the rest of the country (nice isn't it to flee your State when the going gets tough) and her #s were dropping like a rock every day. She is just quitting and running away.

Lastly, she is bad for the environment, animal rights and when mayor of Alaska passed a bill where women who were raped had to pay for their own dam rape kit. Nice lady huh. Oh, of course if that raped lady was raped and got pregnant, Palin of course is still against an abortion for her if she chose to want one.

There is not much good as far as I am concerned about this woman that would be good for America. Wonder if she will ever start telling the truth or just keep on crying about being persecuted by everyone.

I tell you what Nancy, if you think I am lying, then show me where. You can check the facts out. The actual cost of the lawsuits and it is easy to find out who brought the lawsuits. That is all you have to do. You can also show us the facts where it as "you say" cost millions of dollars for the lawsuits. Either way you want to do it I don't care.

Meant to say also Nancy, if you think she is good for the environment or she is good for animal rights or while she was mayor she did not make the women who were raped pay for the rape kits, that is easy to find out.

Just two days before, on July 1, the Anchorage Daily News, the Juneau Empire, and the Associated Press all reported on figures released by the Alaska Personnel Board about the actual costs of its investigations into ethical complaints against Palin & members of her administration. The costs were considerably less than what Palin claims: $296,042.58..
What"s more, nearly two-thirds of that amount was attributable in no small part to an ethics case Palin filed against herself. As explained by Patrick Forey in his Juneau Empire story,

"The timing, scope and other factors of the single largest expense appear to fit the case Palin filed against herself that cost $187,797 to investigate. That"s almost two-thirds of the total $296,042 of all Personnel Board investigations in the last two years.

The self-reported complaint was a means to have a legislative investigator"s findings in the "Troopergate" case reexamined by a Personnel Board investigator. She said publicly that her self-reported complaint was without merit."

Also, you left this out: "Comella would not answer other questions, including when Palin learned of Wasilla's policy or whether she tried to change it. The campaign cited the governor's record on domestic violence, including increasing funding for shelters."
