Invisible killings: Israel’s daily toll of Palestinian children

When your land has been occupied by a foreign army as long as your children have been alive, and this occupying army regularly brutalises and humiliates the friends and relatives of these children, stopping kids from confronting the invaders is naturally going to be very difficult. Convincing the Israeli adults in control of this weaponry in civilian areas that they should not be using it to kill children who are merely stone throwers should not be difficult. The statistics sadly tell a different story, of a deep-rooted Israeli contempt for the lives of Palestinian children that should inspire Western outrage. Photo by Musa Al-Shaer.
When Israelis are killed and injured by a Palestinian attack, the TV news networks are quick to cut to “breaking news” reports. Harrowing footage from the scene and interviews with outraged Israeli government officials are swiftly broadcast, and harsh statements are quickly issued by government and UN officials to appear in tomorrow’s front page newspaper stories.

Meanwhile, the steady killing of Palestinian civilians, many of them children, by the Israeli occupation army goes largely unnoticed and unreported.

By consistently emphasizing the suffering of Israelis, and downplaying or ignoring the killings of Palestinians, the media convey a false impression that Palestinian “attacks” are the principal feature of the conflict.

Statistics unambiguously clarify that this impression is the exact opposite of the reality on the ground.

One has to keep trying, and balances are slowly tipping as people within and outside Israel wake up to the fact that aid from the US is being used in ways contrary to US law, international law and principles of human rights.
Thanks David - for the petition and for continuing to draw attention to human rights abuses

To all signers above and future signers of this petition; I can understand US citizens (I am one) being against money being "poured" into a foreign country, where a lot of it goes to the settlements in Palestinian territories, settlements which prevent peace, cause me much anger and frustration, and are a result of Israel's terrible right winged government! But we couldn't survive one day without US aide!! The only democracy in the area (look at what is happening in Syria, Egypt, Lebanon), if we do not get American aide we will be destroyed, cease to exist. Is that what you want? If we lose our ability to defend ourselves we will be murdered in our beds by our neighbors who have stated so many times that this is what they would do! A left winged government, consisting of less religious parties, would put the American aide to good use and not channel it to the settlements. I hope I making my feelings clear. I could never sign a petition like that, because as an Israeli citizen, I would be signing my death sentence!

The only legitimate target of ANY US foreign aid to ANY country (other than short term food and medical) is for family planning. Believe it or not, Israel at 3.0, has a significantly higher Total Fertility Rate than any other developed country. The Arab population is only 20% so would not account for this. Israel encourages this irresponsible population growth by bullying others and taking over their land.

If America did stop all aid, what would happen? I'll tell you, there would be another unprovoked invasion of Israel by her Arab neighbours and there would be a bloodbath with hundreds of thousands, even millions dead.
Probably Israel would use their nuclear weaponry to defend themselves.
Is this what you want?

if you want peace, try promoting peace and brotherhood, not stirring up hate.

Bob A. (13)
Thursday February 13, 2014, 8:34 am
Why does the petition omits help to Arab countries? Israel gets American-made equipment valued at 3B, while Arab and Islamic countries get 10 times more - $30 BILLION bucks a year - CASH $$$.

That is where the real losses are.

Besides, Israel at-least provides back technology and full support for US Navy. The only thing coming from many Arab states are screams "Death to America" and terrorists. Why give them money? They are the ones which have to be weaned off US taxes.

Bob A. (13)
Thursday February 13, 2014, 8:38 am
John, you can see sets of similar anti-Israel campaigns starting on lots of different web sites at the same time.

Posters often use English-speaking or even Jewish speaking names to get a better credibility.

Spreading such hate campaigns is one of the forms of Jihad. It is ranked below going into a battle or giving money t others to go to battle, but is still on the list. When religious duty calls, "Davids" could do more than 52 anti-Israel posts in 5 days.

Bob A. (13)
Thursday February 13, 2014, 8:42 am
Giana, do you really think that if Israel would release the whole West Bank, Arab states would want peace?

Palestnians in Gaza are still living in "refugee" camps while under Hamas rule on UNWRA dime. As long, as they receive money from UNWRA they will NOT be interested in peace. Because then they will have nothing to live on.

giana, you ain't gotta give any excuses to these guys. it's always the same gang.
we're never gonna stop giving israel money because it would be stupid to do so. and it would hurt national security in great measures. and the the bottom of all reasons and the end of every single day, it is always, ALWAYS about us.
israel is coming up with too many new scientific creations for us to ignore. if we stop bankrolling them by the next day putin or china will sitting in our chair.
and besides, eventually those idiot right wingers will draw israel into a untenable war (iran) and that will be the end of right wingers in israeli politics. when people look at israel they can't see the forest fr the trees. look beyond their leaders, israel is filled with a wonderful cutting edge society with a lot to offer us. we not going anywhere. and as long as new toys keep coming out of their labs we're gonna keep giving them money.

If we are to stop aid to Israel, then we need to stop aid to almost every other country we supply. At least Israel doesn't hate the US, all the others we give aid to do. There is no need to aid all the other countries as all they do is use it to produce weapons and sponsor hate for us. All the messages you see are hate messages wanting to stop the aid and annilihate Israel. After Israel, comes the USA. Don't let our government tell you otherwise. They simply don't care.

This is a difficult petition for many people, as the comments so far show. In the end, we all must sign, or not sign, as our conscience and beliefs dictate. There's no strongarm tactics, at least there should not be...if you feel bullied, by anyone, to sign any petition, please report it.

As to so many articles on this topic, I find that there is a decided lack of articles and/or news reports on this very same thing, anywhere. There seems to be many other topics lacking reports nowdays, especially on any kind of controversial subject. Also lacking are unbiased political news. Wonder why? Who is paid to ignore certain topics?? Who is strongarming the free press??? Who owns the network and cable news stations???? What happened to Freedom of the Press - it has been bought, bullied, or thrown in jail...

We all have a right to express our opinions without recourse, without name-calling or recriminations...wonder where I've heard that before.

NOT SIGNED. Ridiculous to single out Israel when so many other countries are much more deserving of no aid. If Israel gets no aid, ( which we all know will never happen, despite this misguided and self indulgent petition), then the Palestinians surely deserve the same.

Keep in mind that those, who choose to denigrate those that support a petition to stop aid to Israel and try to discount it with red herrings are, in fact, attempting to shift focus off Israel's human rights' abuses and violations to distract from the real issues.
Israel ranks at the top of U.S. arms and military aid recipients over the past decades, and since 1948.

The statistics are readily available for anyone, who wants to see for themselves.

Egypt, and other countries, in contrast, have received a very small percentage of U.S. aid afforded Israel for the past 67 years or so.
There is absolutely no comparison in the amounts, the types of aid and loans, nor the conditions.

Israel receives $Billions annually. Other countries, like Egypt, have not.
The amounts of U.S. aid to varying countries over the decades to the present, clearly show the disproportionate aid given to Israel - much of which, will never be paid back.

I have seen the statistics. Israel has used the U.S. to finance and carry out human rights' abuses, violations under International Law, and crimes against the Palestinian people.

you're denigrating yourselves. i don't see anybody else doing that. and besides we don't spend enough on israel to begin with. we only spend 3 billion and a couple more billion for r&d. and what are we getting for it?
among a lot of things star wars is finally gonna become a reality. those jewish scientist are developing a system that will be able to knock down supersonic fruit flys. and it's all ours. and for what? a few billion? we have a budget in the trillions. and speaking of trillions, how much have we as a nation spend on star wars since reagan thought it up? in 2014 money. how much? a trillion? maybe two trillion? it's been over 30 years. and we failed.
we gettin it for a couple of billion now. just a few billions and we get a system way better than anything we ever dreamed of. america outspends the rest of the world combined in r&d. but we spend nowhere near what we should be spending on israeli science. that place is filled with wizards. wizards working in tiny cramped labs always begging for supplies.and they come up with magic. our labs have the best of everything. but we produce no where near their levels.we should actually go in and take them all as a matter of national security. but we won't. and we should.

If you consider all the facts you can see that the Muslims opposed the existence of Israel from the start because they could not tolerate the existence of any country in the Middle East that is not run by Muslims. They were willing to do anything to destroy Israel and that includes surrounding themselves with women and children while they sent all kinds of bombs etc. into Israel. They have also made it known that if they ever succeed in destroying Israel they will want to continue their violent actions to eventually see to it that all the countries in the entire world are run by Muslims and also by what they consider it be the "right" kind of Muslim religion. In addition, Israel has been very important to the U.S. because they have been able to get information about terrorist attacks being planned against us etc. that we could not get. We learned that when we had the 9/11 terrorist attack against us. Israel had warned us that a terrorist attack was being planned against us, but we ignored that warning. Now we know better. I also want to add that the terrorist attack against us on 9/11 had nothing to do with Israel. It was done because with the permission of Saudi Arabia we had some of our troops in the Middle East to protect Saudi Arabia from Iraq. The fanatic Muslims could not tolerate the fact that those U.S. troops were not under the control and authority of Muslims. Oh and I want to add another fact, fortunately for us and other countries before that Iraq attack on Kuwait etc. Israel had taken action to destroy the place in which Iraq had been producing WMDs (including nuclear bombs). If Israel had not done so, that war we and other countries had to get involved in defense of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, Iraq would have had those WMDs to use against us.

3 Billion worth of equipment manufactured in USA is given to Israel per year. Saudi Arabia is allowed to BUY the very same equipment in volume given to Israel. More Israel gets, more Saudis buy. The result: Buy One - Get One Free formula, and US economy keeping 100,000 well-paid manufacturing jobs.

Who in his sound mind will want to do double wrong, to offend a proven US ally Israel and to terminate 100,000 jobs just to please Palestinians, who and not US allies and who won't be pleased anyway?

Afghanistan receives more than 4 times the American foreign aid Israel receives.

Iraq, Pakistan and Egypt receive almost double the amount Israel receives.

Try walking down a street in Kabul, Baghdad, Islamabad or Cairo, especially after dark, in a 'Stars and stripes' t-shirt and see how popular Americans are in these countries.

At least Israel is a friend of America.

A Conservative Estimate of Total U.S. Direct Aid to Israel: More Than $130 Billion

http://www.wrmea.org/wrmea-archives/552-washington-report-archives-2011-2015/october-november-2013/12233-congress-watch-a-conservative-estimate-of-total-u-s-direct-aid-to-israel-more-than-130-billion.html

Emphasis should be placed on the word "conservative" here, as there have been billions more dollars spend in hidden aid to Israel over many years!

jess b (22)

"Between 2009-2018, the United States is scheduled to give Israel--the largest recipient of U.S. aid--$30 billion in military aid. Through it's illegal 42-year military occupation of the Palestinian West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza Strip, Israel misuses U.S. weapons in violation of U.S. law to kill and injure Palestinian and other civilians, destroy Palestinian infrastructure, blockade the Gaza Strip, and build illegal settlements in West Bank and East Jerusalem.

How much of this total will your community provide? Is this a good use of your tax dollars? What else could your taxes be used for in your community?

This money could have been spent instead to provide affordable housing grants, green jobs training, early reading education and primary health care.
