I'm writing to ask you to intervene to correct a grave injustice in the case of Marissa Alexander, a domestic violence survivor and Black mother of three who is facing a harsh 60-year sentence after firing a warning shot during an altercation with her ...

All petitions were signed and posted to Face book and Tweeted when I posted this story. I just re-posted this and hope we gain many signatures. Angela Corey seems to have a personal issue with Marissa Alexander and her many supporters. Maybe the question is the "stand your ground law" only meant to apply to white men shooting people of color and not for those who actually use a gun for immediate and dire need of protection?

Marissa Alexander did not cause personal harm to anyone, she fired a warning shot into the air to scare her husband and prevent him from attacking her again. The worse charge should be brandishing a loaded fire arm. Though in a state with the lose fire arm laws as Florida, it would seem even that is pushing the limits. It is very difficult to believe this not a personal or racial issue with Angela Corey.

A warning shot and now Angela Corey wants 60 years imprisonment? Is this to show other women being abused by husbands, boy friends or lovers to shut up and take the abuse? (She is already sentenced to 20 years in prison for a Warning Shot.)

Thanks Jill - this is an important issue of injustice and everyone needs to sign the petitions and support Marissa Alexander being allowed to return to her children and go on with her life.

I received this petition from Color of Change in my e-mail yesterday & immediately signed.

Then I checked whether it had already been posted, and your post, Frans, showed up. (I'd have otherwise posted it myself) So I sent out a message to my friends asking them to come note your post AND sign the petition. I am glad to see Kit, JL A, Susanne R & Ros have heeded my call.

Can't add anything to Kit or Ros' comments, they've said it all!

Thanks for posting, Frans. I am sorry that 33 notes haven't been enough to get this urgent petition more exposure & support by putting it on Front Page.

The racial use & mis-use of 'Stand Your Ground' in Florida is appalling! It has been used by the same DA, Corey, to clear two MURDERERS who were not at all threatened by the young Black boys they killed, yet, in Alexander's case, which is so clearly a textbook example of 'stand your ground', Corey rejected it being applied.

If this isn't racism...

Marissa Alexander's initial conviction was already a miscarriage of justice, but that DA Corey won't accept the appeal ruling that overturned Alexander's quilty verdict and is still going after her is an outrage.

Thanks Lucy with the Beautiful Eyes for forwarding and Frans for posting. They say Justice is suppose to be blind but here in Florida it is in Color. Depending on the Color, depends on the Justice.

Thanks Kit, I'll check to see if I've signed those petitions. I know I've signed everything I can get my hands on for this poor woman and what she is having to endure.

Come on, Marissa is black so she must be guilty. On the other hand her husband and children are black so they must be lying.

Terrible situation to be in unless you are the DA in which case the victim has to be prosecuted and must lose! One only has to look at the statistics of black women in the American court system. I have said repeatedly that it is not a justice system, the poor lose and the wealthy win because they can afford better lawyers and are probably friends with someone who can have a word with someone.......

Gladly signed and commented...Yes, I kept it halfway nice, no swearing, just indignation from a survivor.

Hate that a victim is further victimized by white conservatives, male and female. This should never have gotten this far. Thanks to everyone for keeping it out there for others to sign. I look forward to the day she's free and is a survivor, no longer a victim of anyone.

Cool Jude!
"Outright racism" is one of the things the south is well practiced in,, in the north, it is usually more subtle.
I told Gov. Scott that I have property in Fl., and will be voting there sooner, or later.
I expect nothing from him.
I think I signed the Avaaz petition, too.
