July 9 might be “Internet doomsday” for PC and Mac users who haven’t taken steps to make sure their systems are not infected with what’s being called DNSChanger malware.

That’s right: Your Internet connection may not work that day because the safety net now in place from the FBI against the malware will be removed then, and if your computer is infected, you won’t be able to get to the Internet.

Let’s back up a minute to give you some quick background. Last fall, the FBI arrested six Estonian nationals who were charged with using malware and rogue DNS servers to hijack millions of computers worldwide.

At that time, Trend Micro’s Feike Hacquebord called it the “biggest cybercriminal takedown in history.” The company was one of several that worked with the FBI on the takedown, and described the scheme:

A variety of methods of monetizing the DNSChanger botnet [are] being used by criminals, including replacing advertisements on websites that are loaded by victims, hijacking of search results and pushing additional malware.

Oh, this is wonderful people are taking note. Please remember, when we all felt at some point something bad will happen, like a poor bunny looking into the head lights of an on-comming-car lights.

Check it all out first, be mega careful on what you click on, open, etc. Its worth using a public computer too to check out web sites. A public computer has many update protections against virus too.

I will try to get time to post here again if I find anything that may help. Please also post here if you find anything too that may help others in any way.

Some say its a hoax, but it is better to 'notice and be aware, anticipate to expect the unexpected.'

Just wanted to also let you know, that there is a very nasty virus thats been going around and I dont know whats it called.

I cant find out, because it hides its self. It takes down or disables the anti virus stuff on your computer. I do know it seems to destroy everything in a very bad way, and some times the virus breaks everything in your computer for good.

Many do not know who to turn to or get help with the computer. What ever happens be very careful.

Its best if possible to get onto a public computer if possible in future if you know you are going to a unstable web site.

Thank you Eco!!!!!!!! I just did a check to see if I have a virus and it came back green, which by Jon's posting, sounds like I'm OK. Is this just a matter of not opening anything or is there a way to prevent this and if I have several anti virus protections, does that help or matter?
Thanks so much for a response as soon as you get the chance!

Send a Green Star to John Cause

Sending a Green Star is a simple way to say a very giant "Thank you John Cause"
You cannot currently send a star to John because you have done so within the last week.

I have posted this on to my group in the past about Microsoft Safety scanner and anti virus stuff and it is free.

http://www.care2.com/c2c/groups/disc.html?gpp=28999&pst=1334611

Remember you can also get onto official blogs packed full of information regarding anti virus. Its worth searching for them.

The Microsoft Safety Scanner is a free downloadable security tool that provides on-demand scanning and helps remove viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. It works with your existing antivirus software.

Microsoft Safety Scanner. Check it out, posted it to Animal Information group.http://www.care2.com/c2c/groups/disc.html?gpp=28999&pst=1334611

The up to date modern computers have a different storage system, back up system. Its worth going to one of your well known computer stores and speak to computer experts there. Please take the time to do this. You could try phoning first and if that turns out to be a utter wasted time and energy, please try visiting them or another one in person to talk to a computer expert because they are more likely to be able to help too.

A FRIEND OF MINE SENT ME THIS. THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE WITH YOU.

Also, please remember just as a consideration. The computers, high technical electrical equipment move so fast before the machines reach normal shops for sales. By the time you all have bought your first brand new state of the art electrical machines, those on higher grounds have more brand new stuff ready to be sold in eg. 6 months time.

Your brand new machine and all its parts becomes harder to find or it becomes obsolite. So think carefully how your new machine and its parts. I personally have had to buy a spare part eg. that type of plug for that machine etc. I dont want to tell you or advise you to buy anything. I just wanted to share with you a little how things are lined up and sold, and how it get harder and harder to buy parts for your electric machines after its been bought and owned for some time.

Thanks Eco, and Abdessalam for FWD, clicked through all links, did all tests, I am clean as can be.
I imagine that when C2 recently went off for maintenance to have their DNS changed, it was for this very reason because they may have used an infected one previously.

All the good reasons to run a decent security system (NOT Norton or Panda!) and to use a router and software firewall. Stupid crackers and their stupid spoofing DNS address servers... Mine shows uninfected.
