Thanks for posting this Andrea.

Thanks for sharing, unfortunately I live in a small apartment and don't have room to do many of these things, but I must admit I don't keep a lot in my fridge, I shop every other day for fruits and veggies, a bit inconvenient but at least I know then that they are fresh, after a few days in the fridge these items loose most of their goodness.

fascinating! I might try a few of these in my pantry closet door. The space seems to stay about 15 degrees cooler in there.

wow -wow - wow

Buy local fresh eggs- they haven't been irradiated ( meaning precooked!)

Even many of the brands of the so called 'Organic eggs' in the fancy printed containers @ health food stores have been irraditated!!

know your local egg farms!!!!

In old taverns on the seashore people used to put rice in the salt container to keep it dry. I do it at home and am always certain that I will get the exact amount I need and the container stays clean. Also, when making spinach pie I add just a bit of half baked rice to absorb humidity.

Fascinating article, and in the same vein, remembering relatives who would put a piece of terracotta in a jar with brown sugar to stop it clumping together or put a wet teatowel over a bottle of milk standing in a bowl of cold water to keep it fresh. Don't remember stuff being spoiled.
