When this little piglet was rescued, he was suffering from a joint infection that followed a leg injury he received in the overcrowded conditions he lived in at a local farmer's petting zoo and pumpkin patch. Despite the label of "free range" that some...

This farmer wasn't being cruel to just he piglet, he was being cruel to the children as well. Children see enough cruelty & violence without going to a petting zoo & seeing it there, too.... A petting zoo is suppposed to be fun & wonderful for them.... If they see animals in pain & suffering, what kind of scar will that leave on them? What message does that send to them? That adults just don't care about anything but making money? That's not the values I want my children to grow up with... There is so much we can learn from animals & from children if we only take the time to listen & watch..... I commend the mom & son who stepped up & did what needed to be done about Eric.

Aww, so sweet, and or course I ESPECIALLY loved the picture and story of how Eric befriended Azriel, the fluffy Tortie Sanctuary cat. Cat and Pig story...just what I wanted for Christmas! Thanks for this, Barb.

Petting Zoos are NOT fun! Here in town, however, we have a sanctuary for injured-by-humans animals called The Nature Center and they have places throughout the park where you can pet the goats and there are hand washing stations located outside the barn where the goats are. They have a glass enclosure where visitors can enjoy watching the antics of two moutain lions; 1 F named Val and 1 M named Sachmo but visitors call him 'Sach.' Sach and Val were stolen as cubs from the Blueridge Park Way back in the 70's and they were declawed. The 'owners'-a married couple- turned them over to the Nature Center when they started growing. They had to pay a fine of $500 for Val and $500 for Sach.

Doesn't it cheer your heart?

We are many. 90%, working together has far more power than the few worshiping the dollar.

I often talk to strangers. I'm all grown up and I can do what I want. lol I usually find a way to work in the deplorable condition of the world and what WE are trying to do. Everyone I've talked with so far has been interested. They share what they are doing to try to save the Earth. They agree that the grassroots people have to do it if it's going to be done.

It's easy to tell them about Care2 (we care enough 2 DO something) Care2 petitiions. I invite them to check it out on the computer. They might like it. So far, everyone I've talked with expresses intrerest.

I keep it as a casual invite. NO heavy sale.

I believe in Care2 even when there's problems.

My daughter did an internship at the Farm Sanctuary in NY and became a vegetarian as a result. It is a wonderful place for kids and adults alike. The animals are lovingly cared for, living areas are immaculate. This little guy makes me think of Babe. They just don't get much cuter!
