At first glance I thought, cool! Purple's my favorite color! But after reading how this couple trapped him, I soon changed my mind. The article doesn't indicate that he-Lavy-was released back into the wild.

Well we have red, black and grey squirrels in our area. I have only seen pics of albinos. The purple is not natural. I really hope it is not from the frackling going on in that area. What one does not know about the products used in fracling could kill, not just turn one purple. i am glad the little guy was released back into the wild. Hope he will be OK. Thanks Barb.

Mystery??? Purple is definitely not good color for squirrel, I believe was not born that way.
Nevertheless, Purple Squirrel becomes famous and already has a Facebook page

Weird , We had a scrawny looking black squirrel eat under our bird feeders , I always felt sorry for him him
he wasn't as big & plump as the grey squirrels , He stopped coming by in 2010 .
Anyway I hope purple squirrel and all others are well and safe, Thanks for the update .

This is either a really good photoshop job (and a prank), or it's a dye of some kind. That shade isn't a natural one for fur!

The squirrel is a Baltimore Ravens fan.

Why don't they leave the poor animal ALONE, he has enough problems with eating and drinking from toxic waste that someone is throwing around!
