Well hopefully whatever is truly best for him happens! Hard to say whether the sanctuary or the owner would do a better job.

Sanctuaries are better equipped to take care of animals like Darwin.

agree Barbcat, wild animals like this belong in a Sanctuary or in the wild, it wouldn't be able to take care of itself so Sanctuary.

The woman apparently got the poor monkey from a BREEDER! That means some heartless human is keeping the mother monkey in a crappy cage, and ripping the baby monkey out of her arms, to SELL! STOP the exotic animal trade- the animals are either stolen from the wild (and the mother animal likely killed to steal the baby), or the parent animals are kept in tiny cages and used as breeding machines.

It doesn't seem normal, to me, to treat a wild animal like a human child.
Fortunately this one got saved. After being torn from it's real mother, then shipped (smuggled?) to Canada, then adopted out. This woman tried to return Darwin after she realized she couldn't handle him. Changed her mind when she felt he couldn't live without her.
All very unwise and selfish imo.

I agree w/ you Barb , The monkey should be living out his life in a sanctuary as he is not acclimated to his
truly natural environment .
So now I have to wonder if there are monkey mills ' Like puppy mills ?

Darwin belongs with others of his kind so that he can have the best life possible. What idiot thinks that putting a sheepskin coat on a monkey is a good idea. This woman is absolutely nuts if she thinks she is his mother. Besides that, she broke the law by importing him to Canada, I hope she is fined and learns her lesson. The breeder should be tracked down and put out of business, then put in prison for a very, very long time.

Nobody should own a wild animal but unfortunately why we have poachers because stupid people decide it would be a novelty to have one! In this case the animal should stay at the sanctuary at least it will have more normal life there.

I vote for sanctuary!! He should be with his own kind. Not wearing a dumb little coat around like a doll. Poor thing. Thanks Barb!

Hmmm - if the previous owner REALLY wanted what was best for this poor little monkey he would have been in a good primate sanctuary all along! Perhaps with a lot of work they can reduce his imprinting on humans and make him realise that he is actually a monkey - not a small baby substitute in diapers and a coat!

If she gives up any attempt to get this poor monkey back and rescues a small companion animal instead - and gives them the care they need (not dressing them though!) then I would applaud her.

Noted, tweeted, tweeted, and shared. No idea what would be best for poor Darwin. I am certain he has a lot of abandonment issues. Somehow even when we try to do our best like this owner who obviously cares for him, we screw it up. Hope someone who is an expert can make the right decision.

Then let "mom" learn why, and hopefully she will donate to a needy cause, whether it be to "real" children or animals.
That coat alone would be a godsend to so many kids it borders on obscene. .
