First thought is 56 years in captivity. Born the year I started school. Amazed she has lived this long as things are very dangerous for Gorillas in the Mist. Very mixed feelings about this. Glad she is okay, sad she isn't free and that it probably isn't safe for her to be. She'd not know what to do now anyway were she suddenly free. I hope she has a big enough enclosure to have some time to herself. Those paper chains in the first picture looked all to real to me. Maybe to her too.

An entire life in captivity? This is a creature that should have lived in FREEDOM in its natural habitat, not in a zoo, which is completely unnatural to animals! Sorry but I see nothing to celebrate here!

At least the zoo does its best to give her enrichment in her enclosure- I know people don't like zoos, but it is too dangerous in the wild if you're a gorilla or any other animal that would be poached for bushmeat.

Happy Birthday Colo. Hope you are having a good life even if it's in captivity. As much as I hate zoo's, for you it's probably safer. Unfortunately all wildlife will end up behind bars, for something they didn't do, but to protect them from man.
