My dogs barely accept a bath so I cant see surfboards underneath the Xmas tree this year, for my lot!

Intriguing, I suspect these dogs kept a lot cooler surfing than a lot of us landlubbers.

The look on the faces of the dogs in the photo is NOT a look of pleasure. Let dogs just be dogs. Dogs don't surf.

Noted, while it's a cute picture, I have to agree with Brigitta...

Our dogs love water, but I would never risk them getting hurt by making them do this.

I can't believe these dogs WANT to do this and I believe this is animal cruelty and those involved - including PetCo - needs to be prosecuted. I will not be doing business with Petco for promoting events like this.

So true Dianne, and lets not forget that PetCo did not do anything to stop the animal abuse that their employees were doing to the animals that they sold in their stores!

Well, I think some breeds are much more comfortable in the water than others. Also, I think if a dog is introduced to water early in life they quickly gain confidence and develop a real appreciation for it. For all of you that seem to feel this is unnatural for a dog I ask you is it any more unnatural than it is for a guide dog to perform its duties or for any dog to perform even the simplest tasks like "sit" and "stay"...all these tasks are also learned behavior. I had a pit-bull who boldly lept off 10 foot cliffs with me into the Atlantic Ocean, I never "taught" him to do it, in fact it never even occurred to me. One day he just decided to follow my lead. I can promise you he enjoyed it!!!

"Speed and Danger" not a comfort zone for me when it comes to beloved fur babies. Maybe some are more at ease & accustomed to this. To me it would be easy to see how they're reacting. Petco is not on my "Compassion List" as well.~~ Thanks for this so much Barb & Sara for sending!!~

I had a daredevil lie dog and at first was scared to death for him. Then I realized he loved it, so Bravo!
Noted and shared.
Thanks Barb & Sara.

First, happy dogs look happy, and very few of those here look even vaguely amused. Perhaps they think the next stop may be a Petco animal motel such as the one now featured in an article circulating on Care2. For those who have not read it (apparently everyone who commented here and at least most who noted this item), a dog dropped off at one such facility was dead two hours later, and this the second death of exactly the same sort at the same Petco animal motel. Given this, it hardly seems the right time to be giving Petco a boost. Nor were those deaths the only controversy Petco has stepped in. What I rather suspect is that there are far too many news items and actions circulating among few truly active members, the result in this case being that they cancel one another out. And the bottom line being that Care2 is one of the least effective of all social action sites. (The venerable and highly-regarded magazine The Economist ranks Avaaz.org as the best of them all, if anyone should be curious.)
