We've all seen paintings of Jesus, right? We all know he's a white guy with dark-ish hair, often holding one or two fingers up like it's supposed to mean something. OK, that's probably not exactly how Jesus looked. We got the image of a guy who lived 2000

Yeah, I guess all that fasting in the desert for 30 days really makes one bulk up to be muscle-bound Jesus...you know because he was so pre-occupied with vanity and gluttony and all. Why can't they just accept and love Jesus for who he was...a liberal robe and sandal wearing hippie pushing peace, love and tolerance. I think this guy needs to accept Christ into his life and learn about Jesus' New Word and New Way.

In my opinoin, only Jesus, was man enough, to PAY for OUR SINS and be hung on a cross! It took 'a REAL MAN' to do what HE did. But ONLY JESUS, THE SON OF GOD, was MANLY ENOUGH to step up and PAY for the WORLDS' SINS!

Agreed Barb. Big muscles do not make the man...Oh and that was 40 days, not 30 I think.

You're correct, it was 40 days Roseann. But I'd like to advise everyone to please read the entire article.

That is a ridiculous article. The man was born in the land of Israel, he was short, dark skinned, brown eyed and weathered from the sun. Whether he worked all his life by preaching or worked at labor he would not have been built like some goof-ball on steroids. What he looked like whether or not artists have tried to soften his image is totally irrelevant. What is important is do you live your life with love in your heart for all fellow beings? Whether they be human or animal. Do you give of your time to help others and not be concerned about thank you's or rewards? Think about the message not the man.

Somehow it figures that Family Research Council would come up something as silly as this.

I somehow felt it unreadable post.. I din't get what HHH pic was doing with reference to Jesus. HHH is a wrestler who is controversial now cuz he fired Big show, denied Daniel Bryan WWE championship n all. I din't even read this post.
People may be atheists or non - believers. But shouldn't offend.. some of the comments there were unbelievable.
I am non-christian, but I like Jesus.
I simply avoided reading it due to pic of HHH there..saying "Jesus Apparently"

I believe everyone has a right to follow their religion. What Jesus looks like is not the point. It is what he stands for. The last sentence in the article sums it up for me. What Jesus physically looked like should be the least of what matters about him.

I THINK ABOUT THE "SON OF GOD" WHEN I THINK ABOUT JESUS (HIS TRUE GIVEN NAME IN HEBREW IS YESHUA) PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT I AM A SCHOLAR ON THE WORD OF GOD. AND THE HEBREW ALPHABET HAS ONLY 22 LETTERS AND THE LETTER J IS NOT ONE OF THEM. I ALSO THINK UPON HIS PROVEN PURPOSE AND HOW IT RELATES TO US...THOSE HIS HEAVENLY FATHER GOD, CREATED...BTW, GOD'S SACRED NAME IS YHVH=PRONOUNCED YAHAVAY...THAT TO IS IN THE HEBREW. BUT, HE DOESN'T MIND YOU CALLING YESHUA, JESUS, BECAUSE HE KNOWS THAT WE LIVE IN AMERICA AND HE ALSO IS FULLY AWARE... THAT MOST ARE FULLY UNAWARE OF WHO WE REALLY ARE!!! HOPE THAT DOESN'T CONFUSE ANYONE, BUT THE REALITY IS THIS...IF YOU REALLY WANT TO KNOW, FEEL FREE TO ASK! BUT I SHALL LEAVE THIS CONVERSATION WITH THE FACTS, THOSE BEING, THAT YESHUA DIED ON THAT CROSS FOR OUR SINS AND ROSE ON THE THIRD DAY, ASCENDING INTO HEAVEN AND WHO FROM THAT TIME TO THE PRESENT, SITS AT THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF HIS FATHER. HE DID THIS SO THAT WHOM EVER WILL...BELIEVES ON HIS NAME AND KNOWS THAT HE DID THIS FOR US AND THAT HE CONQUERED DEATH SO THAT WE TO MAY ALSO CONQUER THE SECOND DEATH (THAT BEING OF THE SOUL) MAY HAVE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE WITH HIM FOR ETERNITY! THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS TO ME ABOUT MY LORD AND SAVIOR!!!

......why do you think one of His names is "The Lion of Judah" ....or what type of "man" will be able to stand before Satan and tell him to shove off....?????......or what type of "man" will be able to empty a synagogue filled with traders ..??....or, what type of "man" will be able to tell a storm to calm down...??.....a REAL man, I'd say........

Jesus was dark skinned, possibly darker than mentioned since early times, and after his death.
The shroud of Turin has been studied. many believe it belonged to Jesus, experts have studied it with modern day equipment, that improved in the last decades, and many concur it belonged to Jesus.
The anthropological and historical studies and findings indicate that many men of this region and of this time were generally "dark' skinned, and "stocky" - perhaps muscular rather than thin, in build, with individual variance.
Someon, who fasted, and ate little, did not have permanence in terms of a home life, would not necessarily be physically robust, despite earlier good health or strong physique.
"Dark" skin refers to people of many different complexions, including people from or originating from Africa.
Numerous historical and anthropological findings and expeditions, in fact, indicate that "Jewish" people came out of Africa - and ventured to the region know today as Egypt , then to the the Middle East, inhabited by earlier arrivals, as in Europe and Asia, who had also migrated from Africa at different stages in ancient times.

Written accounts of Jesus that have remained, exist along side those of the authors of the day, the higher echelons of religion, power and authority. Like today, what remains of the history of Jesus is what loyal followers were able to pass on, what the elitist authorities put out, distorted or concealed and the stories of actual encounters described by those that met or saw Jesus and passed on to others.
Like all human accounting, there are things unknown, unaccounted for, and often, suppressed.
Jesus may have been physically "dark" in his time. This may have been not unusual at all. Over hundreds of years, it may have been something conveniently brushed over by different religious groups, for different reasons.

note - By "Jewish" people, I was actually referring to the ancient "Israelites". "Jewish" people and their ancestors "comingled" with other groups for centuries, and to this day, through conquest, "survival" ("Practical arrangement"), conversion, slave ownership and political and social unions.
Jesus was a direct descendant of the tribe of Judah, I believe.

My goodness~~~Barb, GOD BLESS YOU throughout eternity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!You have opened up the most fantastic thread here. I am utterly Blessed by this and the reason being is that I am seeing a thread where people are talking about "ALL" of ours, Lord & Savior Yeshua/Jesus the Christ and King. Jessica b. you are absolutely correct. Yeshua is indeed the head of the two tribes of Judea. Many of us are the descendants throughout the centuries of the ten tribes of Israel. Thus my prior comment in my above post stating " HE ALSO IS FULLY AWARE... THAT MOST ARE FULLY UNAWARE OF WHO WE REALLY ARE!!! We are the descendents of Abraham, whom God foretold would be the father of MANY nations. Those who through the lineage of the Israelite's whom were held captive for 428 years by the Egyptians, the grouping of Israelite's whereby God utilized Moses in stating God's words of "LET MY PEOPLE GO". those peoples eventually crossed over the Caucasus mountains, down into the European nations and through Canada and into the North Americas...The Bible IS His-story and an incredible truth!!! thus the Greatest story ever told and to think that this magnificent book called the Bible is in reality, our blueprint for life aside from know who are relatives are. My prayer is that this thread never end, just as the word of God is pregnant (Ever growing in the depths of knowledge as to who our Heavenly Father is)!

There is sold historical evidence that a Jew named Jesus existed and was crucified under Roman rule when Pontius Pilate was the governor of the region.
There is not historical evidence, and will never be historical evidence, that this Jesus was the Son of God. God does not provide that kind of evidence for something that is supposed to be a metter of faith. You will have to make up your own mind on that. Various inferences have convinced many intelligent people, and have failed to convince many other intelligent people. If you believe, or if you don't, it desn't mean you are not smart.

However, if you do believe, you ought to be going to the sources and not making up what YOU think ought to be the case. That's not belief, that's fantasy. Mr. Boykin's thinking is definitely in the realm of fantasy.

At that, though, Mr. Boykn's fantasy is not as extreme as that of Mark Driscoll, who has said "I cannot worship the hippie, diaper, halo Christ because I cannot worship a guy I can beat up." I recommen checking out this blog and the SNL video to which it refers. Messrs Boykin and Driscoll, serpents in Christians' clothing are certainlynot doing Jesus or real Christians any favors.

Someone needs to tell Boykin and the rest of the white skin religious crowd fearing everyone of color, that Jesus was probably 50 shades darker than Brown and maybe almost Black.

Thanks Barb, quite interesting...All I can say is, if you believe that Jesus is the Son of god, then one day we will see him, then we'll know what he looks like...If you don't then I guess you don't need to worry about it either way...

My wonderful homely teacher taught me that God is not a person but a power, which dwells within each of us. God is a name which has been given to the All-Life, the Divine Source or Creator.

Christ is the "only begotten Son" of God. This means the once-outpoured power of the Creator. Once outpoured and forever outpouring. Jesus, the Master who came on earth to show us the Father plainly and bear witness to the truth as He explained, was called Jesus the Christ. This was because He was so filled with the Christ-Power of God that He was identified with it.

God's Spirit - the Christ Spirit, lives within each of us and we mould His Power by our thoughts. Therefore, if we think wrong things, we create those in our lives also. So what we think - if held on to - comes to pass in our lives. Thus, we learn by experience, by inheritance of God-Power, for it is the only power there is.

The Master's teaching still is guiding us slowly to this wonderful truth, helping us to merge with the Christ Spirit within our selves, and in doing so saving us from our sins. The greatest sin being denial of love; either to deny love to God as all and perfect Goodness, or to deny love to our fellow-men as children of God.
