ASHEVILLE, NC (July 8, 2007) - Upon entering the butterfly exhibit, visitors are sprayed with sugarwater so the butterflies will lite on them. "Spray it on your hand and a butterfly will land on it," a volunteer told us at the Nature Center. I loved it!

The butterflies stay in a clear tunnel enclosure surrounded by plants such as Milk Weed that you can purchase among other butterfly paraphernalia. But you must enter the clear tunnel QUICKLY for fear one of the butterflies will become a hitch-hiker, LOL!! If you live within the Asheville area, please put on your calendar to come visit the butterfly exhibit at the Nature Center this Summer. Kids of ALL AGES will have the time of their life!! Need directions?? Google wildwnc.org. I do hope you come, I'll be there again in September. And please be sure to visit the cougars, hawks, otters, bobcats, etc, while you're there!!

Sounds like a great exhibit. I love it when the butterflies hang around my yard. I"ll have to try the sugar spray on the hand.

Thanks for telling us about this. Wish I'd be in your state to visit. I have been to the Museum of Natural Science in Houston which has a Butterfly Exhibit like you are talking about-my daughter worked there for awhile when attending the University of Houston. They didn't, however, have the sugar water-if I go again, I will suggest it, because I so wanted them to land all over me. I can see how they would "hitchhike out" though. Lovely image of butterflies all over ! Noted/Forwarded

Wonderful site. In fifth grade, my son (now 19), had a teacher who engaged her class in a butterfly project. It was amazing how his quick eyes (and good vision, LOL) could find different species of swallowtails, the monarchs and others while we were driving together. Of course, soon I was noticing butterflies that I'd never noted before and still do. Thanks for the post.

Thanks for all the heartfelt compliments, everyone!! I found a picture of a butterfly on a boy's hand at the Nature Center a few hours after writing the article. However, I did not recieve it in my Care2 box or my AOL box so GOD must've sent it to me. Be sure to look for it on my page sometime. And thanks for noting and fwding!
God Bless,
Barb
