The media conglomerate Discovery Communications used to be known for their earth-friendly offerings. But they've just paid millions to Sarah Palin to host a "nature" show, despite her decidedly anti-environmental stance: She vocally advocates for habitat-destroying oil drilling, she denies global warming is a human-caused threat, and she spearheaded a brutal wolf-slaughter program as governor of Alaska.

It's one thing if Fox News gives Sarah Palin a platform. But when Discovery Communications -- home to the Discovery Channel, the "Planet Earth" series, the Science Channel, Animal Planet, and TreeHugger.com -- gives a show to Sarah Palin, it undercuts everything the Discovery brand has come to represent.

We can't let an anti-environment extremist like Sarah Palin take over Discovery and spread her "drill here, drill now" message on a science and environment network.

Lowser ratings is the key! Personally I can't see how anyone would find her show something to watch..she's certainly not a friend to animals in the wild. The war and hate mongers will flock to it probably but maybe the rest of us can just tune the channel out completely, and not just her 'show and tell' progam until she's no long a part of their line up. That ________ would love to line up polar bears and wolves and any other living creature in her 'neck of de ice and woods' so that she could fine tune the scope on a rifle to blast a bullet into each one, just for the thrill of the power trip of the kill [s]..she just too damn butchevil for her own well being...as well as for the safety of wild animals The women needs mental health care..and a little time in a padded cell, me thinketh, as it is.

I wrote to the Discovery Channel months ago when I found out that they were paying this evil woman millions of dollars to do a wildlife documentary. I told them that I would never watch their programming ever again if they continued with Sarah Palin. When I wrote to them - months ago - there were thousands of other people who voiced the same opinion. And now because I do not live in the US of A - I cannot sign this petition against this woman. If someone out there has any idea how I can make my voice known with the rest of you - Please help me. This woman does not care about the environment - animal rights or anything regarding the preservation of our planet.

The show premiers Nov 14 on TLC. Preview clips are available on the website. Watched one, looked like it will be a pretty entertaining show.
Still can't figure out the hate for Sarah Palin here. So she's a conservative. So what? Free country. She can believe the way she wants. It's a TV show about Alaska, not a political show. What's the big deal?

Just like we rallied when BET announced they were going to have a reality show with Michael Vick we now have to once again make our voices heard as this is even more troubling that the DISCOVERY channel of all places will give this anti-environment, wild life slaughterer, ill educated nut job a venue shows that money rules. So once again I'll sign yet another petition and contact the Discovery channel but if the first petition went unheeded not sure that they care much what we think or that we'll be boycotting their channel. A shame as they have several shows that I so enjoy.

WTF? I will never, ever watch another show on this channel, if they put this show on their Network...Imagine besides all the other fake nonsense they'll be showing, that we'd have to listen to that horrible voice of hers for 30 minutes or 60 minutes however long the show will be on...Nope, you couldn't pay me to watch that show, and I will boycott The Discovery Channel, if they add this show to their lineup...This Woman is such a lying fraud...

I was shocked to see a pre-empt of Palin's show on t.v. yesterday.
So many of us signed a petition to stop this. I can't sign this one, because I'm in Canada.
I will go the Discovery Channel site and leave them a message, that I will not watch your channel again.
What is happening with Discovery Channel? The show with the guy showing survival techniques deliberately going into a bat cave, then hitting and stomping on them to kill them. Now with Palin a known killer of wildlife and promoting slaughter, plus her drill baby drill campaign with no respect for the environment.
My God, it all makes me sick.

noted and commented. Thanks Beverly for the posting. I too am a peace-loving person who has come to hate Sarah Palin. There is nothing redeeming in this show - the scenery will be beautiful, but the intent is un-acceptable. She is not for the role of Nature; the destruction of habitat, aerial hunting of wolves, depriving the polar bear of protected status. This person is a disgusting, little malefactor of wrong-doing, and exploits any cause to add to her bank account. We cannot censer her, but we can ignore her. This should not be shown at all -

After I saw that she allowed the killing of wolves by people flying over in planes - I was sick to my stomach. And now that I have learned so much more about this woman and her evil ways - we all have to stick together and write to Discovery again and voice our opinions against this woman. Thanks

"And over here we have Anwar, you know what's missing? We need some oil wells. You betcha! Wink! Wink! and the polar bears, those buggers are way too fat. Let's get rid of all that silly ice and make those bears swim so we can see them easier for night time helicopter hunts. You betcha! Now let's go up on my back porch. You can see Russian sabre tooth tigers from here and by golly If I'm elected I'll make sure to make them Russians let us Americans go there and hunt them from helicopters." Palin fought hard against polar bears getting endangerment status, going so far as to sue the federal government. She challenged the federal government over the listing of the Cook Inlet beluga whale as an endangered species, citing its interference with oil and gas development. Palin spoke out against a ban on oil and gas drilling in the Arctic Wildlife Refuge, even calling for increased drilling. Palin spent $400,000 of state money to fight hard against Measure 2, which would have banned hunting wolves from airplanes for sport. She argued that it was a necessary predator-control program to boost caribou and moose numbers, even though the practice is commonly regarded as a cruel, more painful way of killing wolves. Palin came out against Alaska's Measure 4, a clean water initiative that aimed to protect Bristol Bay, one of the world's most productive salmon fisheries, from the proposed Pebble Mine, which would discharge cyanide and mining waste into streams that flow into Bristol Bay.

This show should be interesting...as I'm sure it will show her trapping wolves, shooting bears, skinning God knows what animal alive, and poisoning wildlife. This show belongs on The Hunting Channel. Should be great for kids!!! The words nature and Palin do not belong in the same sentence. If she ever becomes VP or President, I'm hopping the fence South and immigrating to Mexico.

A t.v. show???? YUCK! Give me a break. Why on earth is this lame brain, liar getting any attention? People in my own neighborhood are more worthy and interesting.

Considering all of the people, with attractive and memorabile voices, why choose someone as controversial, as she?

The outrage has nothing to do with Sarah being a conservative. It has everything to do with a person hosting a learning show who endorses slaughtering wolves, who destroys habitat for profit, who values oil profits over wildlife (and all of the oil from the Alaska Pipeline is sold to Asian markets--- nope, doesn't stay in the US)
who refuses to believe overwhelming scientific evidence about climate change, doesn't mind polar bear drowning.... she is the wrong choice and I am boycotting Discovery, letting them and their sponsors know and have already signed several petitions on this subject. I'll sign a hundred more if it helps.

This is one of the most ludicrous things I have heard (absolutely ridiculous) - in what sane person's mind can an animal ANTI-activist speak for those that she murders and the land that she is destroying. The comparison that pops into my mind is like the nazis telling the Jews that they "were going for a shower". Both are lies beyond comprehension !!

Featuring Sarah Palin in a "nature" show is like having the Imperial Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan host a camping show because he so adept at starting bonfires.

Okay, I'm dizzy with sending stars for comments, and going alllll the way back dow, but having to stop for another comment and another. I've read them all, and unlike most all discussions here, I've only read ONE pro-Palin comment; and that was from someone who merely wrote why are we all picking on her,; no defense given. I signed with comments, and will have no problem boycotting the channel. I hope they have someone reading these comments. Glad to feel that I'm not in the minority. You couldn't make her up if you wanted to.

Though I am not living in Alaska I follow all the world news so this article has come to my attention as well, along with all the rest of Palin's activities..This woman is very cold blooded and I have no sympathy whatsoever for her nor for Discovery channel to allow her to do this..Signed..

"Still can't figure out the hate for Sarah Palin here. So she's a conservative. So what? Free country. She can believe the way she wants. It's a TV show about Alaska, not a political show. What's the big deal?"

None so blind as those who WILL NOT see.

Well Morris - the big deal with Palin is that she supports the killing of wolves by hunters in airplanes. What an exciting sport - flying over these animals - shoot to kill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe in your small world - you get off on seeing the killing of these poor helpless animals - running for their lives. But there are many of us who do not believe in this sport - as you seem to think it is. We defend animal rights and this is something that Ms. Palin does not know..
She is in it for the money and I will NOT watch this program on Discovery and will forward this on to other people. This woman speaks with Forked-tongue.

Discovery is paying Sarah Palin $250,000 an episode for this series. There are eight episodes, so she will be clearing $2 million. According to Huffington Post early word is it's going to be a disaster and they'll probably pull it. Awwwwwwwww

It's like Groundhog Day, every day I wake up, there she is...Day after brutal day, then you've got to listen to that god forsaken voice of hers, she literally makes my skin crawl...I try to find the good in everyone, but there is just no good, in this snake...She may be the Anti-Christ...lol

No, Beverly, I've looked, and listened to her for two years...There is absolutely nothing good that comes from her mouth or her twitter...Some of the things she's said over the past few years, border,on total ignorance, and stupidity...She incites, hatred and racism, she's never offered one solution to fix the problems we have...She says absolutely nothing of substance...Same old sick, twisted, and ignorant Tea Party and some of the extremely right Republican talking points...I've never heard an original thought, since McCain brought her on the scene...Thanks, John...lol I just think she is one of the most f***ed up people walking the face of the Earth...And I honestly feel bad, that I have to think that about anyone...But, she's earned it...

I can't even listen to her anymore Michael and I am in total agreement with you. The woman is power hungry and everything she does is only for her own ambition. Pretty sure the $2 million is going to be put away for her 2012 Presidential bid.

Beverly, thanks for your post, as other Canadians am unable to sign. However, here is a short list of the advertisers doing their sales pitch while the "Dirty Jobs" show went on a break. (just saw how to castrate young "not for keep" sheep with a bite by a farmer and then the actor on the show. IT WAS HORRIFIC.) So, some of their advertisers: OLAY, WALMART, CLAIRE, DIRTY PLANET, (shame on this Canadian Publication/TV show), DAIRY QUEEN selling hamburgers.

If they lose audience in large numbers, they also lose advertisers whose sales pitch is aimed at large numbers of potential customers. Some of the Palin millions are probably paid to her from the advertising revenues of Discovery. These same advertisers should be bombarded with letters re their ads. on this channel . Any thoughts? Sending Green Star as thanks to you and both you and Andrea O. is welcome to stay in Montreal, should you have to move.

I have signed and shared. Now I must go and get my remote and block every single channel that is associated with the Discovery Channel. Then I am going to go and mass print this article. Canadians don't get to vote on this but are affected as well. We care also. Personally Sarah Palin scares me as I have observed that 'Truth is often stranger than Fiction' -- that the absurd is believed before the truth. Seems in this day and age people believe the absurd before they will believe or remember facts -- or bother to educate themselves on a particular subject or a politician's record before they shoot their mouths off or vote -- for instance. Sadly, we have bred and raised a 'race of sheep' and anything that grabs the limelight, that goes forth boldly and unabashed is somehow revered, admired, emulated no matter how imbecilic their claims or direction. It's the 'hollywood bollywood gollywood syndrome' but thank goodness we still have independent thinkers that try to counter such movements as the 'Tea Baggers.' However, I disagree. SHE ain't stupid. SHE is doing exactly what gets her the notoriety, the fame, the life, etc. but also don't think she isn't getting her bucks and that fat stipend deposited into her purse as she goes. She is a commodity, she is being successfully marketed AND she is totally For Sale and that makes her dangerous. Be afraid. Be very afraid my friends.

This woman just won't go away will she? How does one person deserve over $1 MILLIOM per episode when we have near on a third of the worlds popualtion living in poverty? Coal seam gas exploration is taking off here in Australia with the promise of more jobs and money into the economy. Mind you, forget the damage this will do to our planet. :(

Good luck with your efforts. I will be writing to a few outlets to let them know of my sadness that Palin has been given this deal. Horrid news that you won't hear run in the Murdoch run news.
