Thanxs Anita - I will make sure MY CANADIAN GOVERNMENT looks at the petition as the fraud you have just announced and I have now forwarded to our powers that be ....

Omar Khadr's father was the leader of one of the most vicious terrorists groups in Afghanistan. His father brought his family to Canada and under false pretenses applied for Canadian citizenship - even while waiting for it to come through he was back and forth to Afghanistan promoting his terrorist activities and tried to raise money here in Canada to help him kill - not just American - but CANADIAN SOLDIERS AS WELL .... So he gets the citizenship and then takes his sons with him to Afghanistan to really fight the fight only dad was killed along with several brothers and Omar was arrested for killing an American ....

Was he a boy at the time - yes but his father used him as a tool and his family encouraged it ....

Now he is almost blind in one eye, and has endured torture and denied contact with his family ... this is a lie - the Canadian government has visited Omar many times - he has not been harmed and is probably safer where he is than back in the hands of a radical and dangerous family but here is the real kicker -

WE DON'T WANT HIM IN CANADA - we are now supporting what is left of his family because they are all on welfare while at the same time trying to get rid of them for coming to Canada and applying for citizenship under false pretenses ....

Before any of you PROMOTE YOUR LEFT WING LIES about stuff maybe you should ask a CANADIAN what they think of this - most of us want him sent back to Afghanistan - not Canada - WE DO NOT WANT HIM OR HIS FAMILY HERE ....

As well I will let my government know there are people here who have used the suggested fraud to sign this petition - This petition should be pulled from Care 2 and I have sent a request asking that this lie of a petition with its intention on fraud towards my Canadian government BE REMOVED ....

Guantanamo's Child: The Story of Omar Khadr

I've been writing about Canadian Omar Khadr, the 15 year old seized on the battlefield in Afghanistan (gruesome picture here) and held at Bagram and Guantanamo ever since. He's now 21 and facing trial by a Pentagon military tribunal. Another hearing in his case is set for next week. He's the only Westerner still at Guantanamo.

The U.S. charges he threw a grenade at an American medic in an alleged al-Qaida compound, killing him. Omar was shot three times by U.S. soldiers and blinded in one eye.

The Toronto Star today has a long excerpt from a new book about him by Toronto Star journalist Michelle Shephard, Guantanamo's Child. It chronicles his first days in U.S. custody. Part 2, detailing how he was used as a human mop, is here.

One evening in March 2003, Omar was taken from his cell and in no mood to co-operate. The guards left him in the interrogation booth for hours, short-shackled with his ankles and wrists bound together and secured to a bolt on the floor. Unable to move, he eventually urinated and was left in a pool of urine on the floor.

When the MPs returned and found the soiled teenager, Omar's lawyers later said, the guards poured pine oil cleaner on his chest and the floor. Keeping him short-shackled, the guards used Omar as a human mop to clean up the mess. Omar was returned to his cell and for two days the guards refused to give him fresh clothes.

He was threatened with rape and extradition to Egypt, which allows torture. (Rolling Stone published this long feature article with more details on his torture.) Omar turned 16 a month before arriving at Gitmo. Under Pentagon policy, he was treated as an adult from his first day there.

The United Nations has warned the U.S. that it has a duty to protect Khadr as a "child soldier," and work to rehabilitate rather than prosecute him.

Omar's family is al-Qaeda. His father forced him to fight against the Taliban in Afghanistan. See my earlier post, Child of Jihad and An Unprivileged Belligerant. The CBC has a family album here.

Omar's Egyptian-born father Ahmed Said Khadr was an Osama bin Laden confidante and suspected financier who shuffled his family around Canada, Pakistan and Afghanistan. A self-described "Al Qaeda family," they nursed hatred for Americans, cheered 9/11, trained their sons in Al Qaeda camps, and urged them to become martyrs.

As Jeanne D'Arc of the (unfortunately now defunct) blog Body and Soul wrote back in 2002:

When he was captured in Afghanistan, he was fifteen -- a child turned into a soldier by parents from hell. And our government's response to this victim of child abuse was to abuse him further.

What should the U.S. have done? Human Rights Watch provides the answer.

At Bagram, he was repeatedly brought into interrogation rooms on stretchers, in great pain. Pain medication was withheld, apparently to induce cooperation. He was ordered to clean floors on his hands and knees while his wounds were still wet. When he could walk again, he was forced to stand for hours at a time with his hands tied above a door frame. Interrogators put a bag over his head and held him still while attack dogs leapt at his chest. Sometimes he was kept chained in an interrogation room for so long he urinated on himself.
After the invasion of Afghanistan, President Bush decided, in violation of the Geneva Convention, that any adolescent apprehended by U.S. forces could be treated as an adult at age sixteen. The problem with treating teenage prisoners as adults, whatever their crimes, is that teenagers are especially Before boarding a C-130 transport to Guantanamo, Omar was dressed in an orange jumpsuit and hog-chained: shackled hand and foot, a waist chain cinching his hands to his stomach, another chain connecting the shackles on his hands to those on his feet. At both wrist and ankle, the shackles bit. The cuffs permanently scarred many prisoners on the flight, causing them to lose feeling in their limbs for several days or weeks afterward. Hooded and kneeling on the tarmac with the other prisoners, Omar waited for many hours. His knees sent intensifying pain up into his body and then went numb.

Just before he got on the plane, Omar was forced into sensory-deprivation gear that the military uses to disorient prisoners prior to interrogation. The guards pulled black thermal mittens onto Omar's hands and taped them hard at the wrists. They pulled opaque goggles over his eyes and placed soundproof earphones over his ears. They put a deodorizing mask over his mouth and nose. They bolted him, fully trussed, to a backless bench. Whichever limbs hadn't already lost sensation from the cuffs lost sensation from the high-altitude cold during the flight, which took fifteen hours. "There was points I wished to God that one of these MPs would go crazy and then shoot me," recalled one of the hundreds of detainees who have made the trip. "It was the only time in my life that I really wished for a bullet."

At Guantanamo, Omar was led, his senses still blocked, onto a bus that took the prisoners to a ferry dock. Some of the buses didn't have seats, and the prisoners usually sat cross-legged on the floor. Guards often lifted the prisoners' earphones, told them not to move, and when they moved -- helplessly, with the motion of the bus, like bowling pins -- started kicking them. The repeated blows often left detainees unable to walk for weeks.

After the ferry ride, Omar was evaluated at a base hospital. "Welcome to Israel," someone told him. Then he was locked in a steel cage eight feet long and six feet wide. Because the cage had a sink and squat-toilet and the bed was welded to the floor, the open floor space was comparable to that of a small walk-in closet. The cages had been hurriedly constructed from steel mesh and transoceanic shipping containers. Giant banana rats ran freely through the cells and across the roofs and shit everywhere: on beds, on sinks, on Korans. Prisoners were allowed only one five-minute shower each week; the cellblocks stood in a perpetual stench.

Omar's arrival at Guantanamo in October 2002 coincided with a fundamental turn in the administration's War on Terror. Within weeks of his arrival, at the authorization of President Bush, interrogators at the detention facility began using starkly inhumane techniques. Before Omar Khadr had even started to assimilate the wondrous horrors of Guantanamo Bay, his captors began to torture him.

YOU ARE SPREADING LIES AND PROPOGANDA - you are encouraging people to use lies to support a petition which makes the point of what petitions here on Care 2 are supposed to do moot - If you encourage fraud and promote lies once then you prove yourself to be a person who will do it again in order to achieve a means to an end ....
If I thought for one minute that any of what you are promoting was true I would be in the streets protesting but my government has been following Omar closely and what you are saying is lies ....
THE CANADIAN GOVERNMENT DISPUTES THESE ACCUSATIONS AS LIES

No but I AM CANADIAN and I resent you misrepresenting a situation that has to do with my country .... we DO NOT SUPPORT TERRORISTS in Canada .... The petitions put forth on Care 2 should be done with impeccable honesty - FRAUD should never enter into them because like this petition it will be called out for what it is - a dishonest document that is of NO VALUE TO YOUR CAUSE .... it makes Care 2 appear that it is a site that supports liars and this site is too valuable and too good to have anything to do with something that would encourage fraud ....

"HONESTLY"? Funny, coming from someone who's just sounded like a snitch.

Don't worry AniTa, there are informants everywhere or just trouble makers that love to make themselves more important than they are. Or should we just call them trolls?

When someone is bothered by how a petition may be signed rather than the *shameful, shocking child abuse and violations of BASIC human rights* exposed in the petition, it only shows their lacks of brain, lack of education, and that they have absolutely no heart or conscience.

Thank you AniTa for raising awareness.

This site is intended for good - not for fraud .... AS A CANADIAN who has absolute knowledge of this situation I will not stand by while my country or America is represented in a way that is a total and absolute LIE! If you cannot tell the truth about a situation then stay out of it. As well DO NOT use a site like this for spreading lies and fraudulent claims .... Care 2 is a site that is meant to do a lot of good in this world and those of you who want to use lies, fraud and propoganda should perhaps consider going somewhere else to promote it. This is not about a difference of opinion - it is about out and out lies .... and encouragment of the use of fraud to support it .... This petition will be shredded by my government should it ever make it out of here. I and Candians on this site like me have made sure of that.
