As the world’s largest exporter of sheep, Australia is responsible for the suffering of millions of animals every year. You can help convince Australia’s Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, it is time to make a change.

Send a letter calling for an end to the live export of animals for slaughter now.

In 2007 alone, 3.7 million Australian sheep were sent to the Middle East for slaughter. These animals endured a long and grueling journey by both road and sea. More than 35,000 of them died during the sea voyage from heat exhaustion, infection, injury, and disease.

Animals that survive the live export journey are off-loaded in countries where they are often handled, transported, and slaughtered in ways that would be illegal in Australia

An end to the live export trade is the only way to ensure that millions of animals slaughtered each year are spared the additional pain and suffering caused by long distance transport.

As you may already know, Born Free USA united with API, together with a number of leading international animal welfare organizations, has formed the Handle with Care coalition — to stop the long distance transport of live animals for slaughter around the globe. The Coalition has focused its attention on several of the cruelest transport routes around the world, and is strategically calling on activists to help us put an end to these atrocities.

People from around the world are joining together to tell the Australian Government that the live export trade is cruel and that it can no longer be tolerated. And your voice is needed to ensure that millions of animals are protected.

How You Can Help
Please send a letter to the Australian Ambassador to the United States in Washington, DC, calling for an end to the live export of animals for slaughter.

Politicians take more notice of letters received via the post rather than via email. To save you time, we’ll collect and print out messages and send them to the Embassy on your behalf. All you’ll need to do is fill out the form with your information.

Send your letter now.

Thank you for helping to end live export!

Live export or transport is cruel - it is prolonging the torture of slaughter as simple than that. I must stop no matter where.

Thanks AniTa, action taken. And thanks for the fwd, Pam.

Live export is nothing but cruel! Steve Irwin would be so ashamed of Australia but would also be fighting to stop live transport of animals. Every petition I sign I sign on behalf of Steve.
