Anxiety and depression are fairly prevalent. And yet it can be hard to explain depression and anxiety to someone who has never experienced those things. That's why Katie Joy Crawford created a photo series she calls "My Anxious Heart."

I could hardly bear to look at those photos, I found them horrifying, so I guess that means they got their message across.

Great photos, but they are really understandably only for people with such feelings - for others they are, like Sam wrote in his comment, just "horrifying".
& Tahnk you Katie

Excellent photos and yes, they should be horrifying because that's how a depressed person is feeling!
So they are not ONLY f"or people with such feelings"

Thanks for sharing Katie

Well they're certainly different. I can see how most would find the pics unsettling but 4 those who have or are currently battling these disorders--it's all too familiar. thanks

The photos are great at conveying the feelings of both anxiety attacks as well as depression. Katie the photographer did an even greater job with sharing her own by the captions accompanying the photos. For those fortunate enough to have not walked that path consider yourself blessed. Being in that path myself I all to well truly comprehend that "void" it is hard. Churchill called his depression his "little black dog that accompanied him everywhere". It is not about trying to be a victim, it is about the misfiring of the brain an a lot of other factors involved. Not easy for anyone. Should you have a friend or family member going thru this path filled with pain and suffering the best you can do for them is to be understanding, accepting and loving it really does go a long way.

I have mental health issues and it's so difficult to put my thoughts and feelings into words. These pictures help to capture some of those but there are still some that are just indescribable.
