must be extroverts, who would suffer so much from lack of a full office. i get to partly telecommute, and while i think that for most staff it's best to at least have part of the week in the office, as some things can only be effectively explained face to face, being able to partly telecommute is fantastic, for an introvert like me. phone, video, e-mail, IM, face-to-face - it's all the same to me so long as i can contact who i need to when i need to.

You're right, these have to be extroverts. I hated working in offices because of all the petty politics and cliquish behavior. I'm also an introvert and doing transcription from home works out perfectly for me.

I just started telecommuting about 2 weeks ago and I love it. Others in my office have tried it and came back to the office full time because they can't stand not being able to socialize. It's a personality thing.
