Racism in any form cannot be allowed to continue; while I applaud the courage it took for these employees to fight racism, I'm saddened they took the payoff instead of seeing the suit tried in the courts. In a way, the settlement smacks of greed and not justice.
Granted, these employees may have lost their suit, however, there is the possibility that their plight would have made drastic changes to all companies who turn a blind eye to racist practises.
Thanx Dee for posting this article and Mark who forwarded this to me.

The question seems to me were they paid less? If laws for equal pay were enforced everywhere perhaps there might be less of this persecution

I think that we cannot criticize these people for settling the lawsuit. Lawsuits are emotionally draining and when there is a substantial settlement offered, there will always be the pressure from the attorneys to settle. At least in this case, the settlement also includes a measure of reform.

"The settlement will require Allied to conduct annual diversity training for all employees around the country for three years. The company will also be required to file quarterly reports with the EEOC listing any complaints of discrimination or retaliation."

Thank you Dee, for posting this, and Mark S. for sending it along.

Take the money when it's a big amount like that, why not? There is only one place where it hurts for the company, and it's where the where the wallet is. I don't know if the settlement is a drop or a cup of company's benefits, it looks like a big amount for only 15 people. THat makes the company look suspicious anyway!

I remember reading about this case when it first surfaced, and was horrified at what these workers went through. Im glad they won!
