"Cheap" has plenty of targets, and many are usual ones. Ms. Ruppel Shell lambastes Wal-Mart, saying it underpays its workers and enables other retailers to do the same. She criticizes China as tolerating sweatshops with dangerous working conditions.

I can't remember the last time I "needed something" ina department store ... oh, it was months ago ... I bought a dozen wash cloths ... but there were no lines at the cashier ... hardly any people in any of the stores at the mall ... since GeeDumbya Bu$h isn't telling people to "GO SHOPPING" in eveyr news broadcast ... so many people have realized that they don't need all that $tuff and more!

Half the stores in the mall in my town are closed, most of downtown is filled with empty buildings now... it's really sad. As for Walmart, (grrrrrr, I hate Walmart)... I can't say how it is now, but when I worked there before it became open 24/7 the pay sucked and the work was 1 person doing 3 or 4 people's jobs! Don't get me started!...lol

Suzybell,

Thank you for posting this article... between Wal-Mart, Kmart and Sear's selling very poor quality products while having sales people on commissions and the Credit Card Scams they are pulling on their customers... there is not much that can be done!

I have posted a link to your story on another site and if you wish to see what is going please check out this link about the Credit Card Scam going on:US Credit Fraud

Thanks Sentinels Watch! I hate banks and credit cards,so many fees and charges, they make it so the poor can not feed themselves let alone save.

I also worked for Walmart and the pay is low to start, but I do all my shopping there and at Sams. Since I an now on SSI(1200.monthly) I can't afford to shop at Penneys,Sears, etc. Walmart has just about everything I need, why pay more for the same thing elsewhere.

In this economy I don't have the money to shop -- maybe that's why stores and malls are empty.

Have those of you who are still able to shop a tiny bit noticed that the employees that are in the stores (everywhere) are not top wuality and not helpful and some are not eve bi-lingual if you know what I mean. OK this is just the same as the telephone thing. I refuse to speak to someone on the phone for any reason if I cannpt understand them or they cannot understand me. So now I'm doing the same at stores. Too many people (Americans) need jobs. I refuse to be helped by someone who I cannot understand. I can go someplace else to shop or groceryshop.
