My dad told me that he saw one in the area of the Everglades when he lived there back in the 1930's before I was born. The creature was only about 50 yards or so from him and he got a good look as it crossed an open area that was a couple hundred feet wide. He also said the smell was almost overpowering and it did smell like a Polecat; the Florida version of a Skunk. I was an adult when he told me this story, not an impressionable kid. Now for what reason would my dad lie to me about seeing a Skunk Ape?
