Why oh why do you suppose the Rethugnants would want to take away the right to vote from people who have lost their homes? Maybe they'd do better if they only allow millionaires to vote.

Finally somebody who finds out how the elections in the USA work!
Forget your election, its just one big fake show! The outcome is obvious! More of the same for the next 4 years!

No doubt this will also happen to the folks in New Orleans who never got to return home.

Anybody have a voodoo doll of Karl Rove?

Johann- The outcome is not obvious to many of us, not because we are asleep but because we are awake and believe and KNOW that we can enact change in this corrupt system by taking personal responsibility and spreading the word and realizing that we still have to work in this corrupt system while it is on its way out. We will prevail, don't let their lies and fear of the past , steal your hopes for a just and noble Earth. its coming and NOONE can stop it......Thx Susie

P.S.- lets not let their rascism ruin our moment.

This is not all they are doing. They are also using caging to steal this election. The McCain campaign is sending out absentee ballots to democrats and others to fill out that will be sent back to the wrong address so they can claim that these people cannot vote. They are doing this especially in swing states. I just hope the Obama campaign is paying attention to this kind of stuff. The republicans cannot win fairly, they are not christians and they are not fair-minded, they are hypocrites and liars and cheaters, period.

Well, we saw the samee BS from the Republicans in 2000, when Bush stole the election. It's a sad state to be called a Rep. today, because they never have and never will fight, McSames favorite word, for the rights of the American people. Their agenda doesn't come close to the ideal that all people are created equal. MCSAME WILL CONT. BUSH'S PATH REGARDLESS OF WHO MAY BE HURT, NAMELY THE MIDDLE CLASS.

This is indeed an underhanded trick, just the kind the Republicans would approve of! Not rich and white? Who cares what you think? Thanks, Susie.

Michigaan already had it's votes stolen ....by the Dems arranging to get the nominee they wanted rather than the one who was going to win. AND NOW the Dems have the nerve to expect the state to go for them in Nov. nonetheless.

Both sides play dirty....and there are so many race cards being used daily and so much sexism smoke screen thrown up minute by minute and so much shameless bias in the press, it's an unfair 'game' anyway now. Whoever wins didn't earn it, doesn't desserve it, they just manipulated the voters the best.

The Moderates are the ones with moral high ground both the leftwingnuts and rightwingnuts have hijacked the country...with their blind ignorant extremism. For every issue there are two equally radically wrong answers left and right, and then a happy medium right answer in the middle. But the canidates we are 'given' are on either extreme....but they are the prefered color and sex it seems is the only important thing, to most sheep-voters.

Okay another one sided argument. when are we going to hear what the LIBERALS are going to do. This is something that goes on in every single election from COUNTY DOG CATCHER to PRESIDENT. BOTH sides ALWAYS do things against each other, and its US that are the victims to the RADICALS from BOTH SIDES.
EMPRESS GINGER, You are so on target with everything that you said. This is the kind of POLITICS that we are all so tired of. WHO CAN INSULT AND SLANDER THE OTHER BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The link's working fine for me, Erik.

Speaking of dog catchers, there are plenty of them who had more responsibility than Sarah Palin 2 years ago. Maybe the shadow government should put one of them up for us to vote on.

Kevin, you're about as radical as the other side gets, you got anything scandalous to share about the "vote early, vote often" party? You said you agreed with everything Empress said but only after screaming about those d**ned dirty LIBERALS. What was slanderous about this article?

The law that you must actually reside at the address you registered under in order to vote in an election is more or less the same in every country and that is the reason that one has to notify the relevant authorities immediately when one moves to a new address (even if one just moves to the house next door).

Of course if people are evicted from their homes for whatever reason, it is rather mean-spirited to use that as a reason to deny them the right to vote.

If the nation wasn't so strongly divided this couldn't happen. I really can't believe that this isn't a landslide vote against what we've had the last 8 years! Or that we fear change so much as a nation. It seems that the voters are falling for all of the "red herring" issues and their narrow little interests, instead of looking at the big picture.

“We will have a list of foreclosed homes and will make sure people aren’t voting from those addresses,” party chairman James Carabelli told Michigan Messenger in a telephone interview earlier this week. He said the local party wanted to make sure that proper electoral procedures were followed."

WHAAATTT???

There is a difference between PROCEDURE and the LAW! And I'm sorry... I understand the importance of State law... but the United States Constitution trumps State law in every other instance! Why aren’t we demanding this be the same?

This is as bad as limiting voting to property owners before women and blacks could OWN property. The Constitution states that in order to vote, you must be: 1. A Citizen 2. Any race. 3. Any sex. and 4. 18 years or older.

It specifically states in Amendment 14 that: "when the right to vote at any election for the choice of electors for President and Vice-President of the United States, Representatives in Congress, the Executive and Judicial officers of a State, or the members of the Legislature thereof, is denied to any of the male inhabitants of such State, being twenty-one eighteen years of age, and citizens of the United States, or in any way abridged, except for participation in rebellion*, or other crime*, the basis of representation therein shall be reduced in the proportion which the number of such male citizens shall bear to the whole number of male citizens twenty-one eighteen years of age in such State.

So… if a state chooses to deny otherwise eligible people the right to vote, compensation MUST be made for those electoral votes! I’m curious…. Do we take into consideration the number of citizens vs non-citizens when deciding electoral votes? And what about Texas? Don’t they have 5 electoral votes based on their population? Are they counting their felons and/or mentally ill? Because these people are technically allowed the right to vote under the constitution….but denied it under state law. I think I need to fact check this! I’d be happy to take an electoral vote away from Texas.  I’m sure we’d get a Constitutional ratification on that merit! You want to mess with our rights Mr. Chairman? Be prepared… after all, YOU were elected!

*I need to find clarification on what exactly these two statements entail.

The people In Macomb County who've been foreclosed on are still citizens, with the right to choose who they want to see in office. But I'm not surprised by Macomb's latest trick.
I live in Oakland County, directly to the West of Macomb. For unknown reasons, they're known as a bellweather county. Trust me, there have been plenty of scandals, and minorities are discouraged from moving into the County every day. In other words, they do business by the corrupt, fearsome Good Ol' Boy Network. But, if a voter loses their home thru no fault of their own, why are they going to be turned away from the polls?
It's either racism or classism....there's no other explaination. It's simply that the former homeowners are now apartment dwellers in the same County, so why shouldn't their vote count as much as mine.......or yours? Think about it, they're judging by one's social and financial status. This is typical Macomb action, but Metro Detroiters ought to rally and demonstrate long and loudly for our most precious right.....the right to vote.
