Considered a pest by fishermen for preying on salmon, the cadavers feed sharks.I say its a good time to cut salmon out of your diets for a couple of months to let these fishermen taste their own medicin.Disruption of foodchains can have dire consequences

FFS! over some fish? maybe these guys should find another hobby or if it's their job another trade, any idiot can fish, I'm sure nobody needs guys like that to catch for them. (I cannot, do not and will not fish by the way ;-)

While I in no way condone the shooting of these animals, they are much more than a nuisence.
They are a way of life and a powerful sybol here in the Pacific Northwest.
With dwindle salmon runs caused by many factors, these guys are taking the heat for alot of it as they are a tangible problem to many, unlike the othet causes such as parasitic and other dideases caught from escaped atlantic farmed salmon.
When these guys get into the locks and have a free for all, if you add the fish they kill with the number of spawn they might have produced, you're looking at millions.
The Salmon are also sacred among the many indigenous tribes here also.
I live in West Seattle, and the last one they found was just blocks away from me..and don't forget we are not the Pacific Ocean here, rather a giant inlet.
I'm surprised our resident Orcas didn't get them first.
And while I hope they catch and prosecute whoever did this heinous act, I really don't think it was done by salmon fisherman, but rather by some POS that just likes killing things.
Thanks for the story!

There's a heck of a lot of precedent for fisherman taking such things into their own hands. Whoever did it deserves jail time.

I am deeply ashamed to be part of a species that is so cruel, self-absorbed and greedy! I hope that everyone has to answer for what they have done during their life time at some point. I wish that the animals we encounter during our lifetimes will be the judges.

What are guns for, after all? Gotta make good use of the guns we buy...

Let's see, gunning down seals in West Seattle Puget Sound... Gunning down the wolves in the western states.. Oh and don't forget the recent gunning down of humans - the peaceful civilian Tibetan protestors were gunned down by the Chinese Army - randomly - without orders.

Just kill it if it bothers you right??

The shortage of salmon is probably due to over fishing. Maybe they should shoot those doing the over fishing rather than shooting the seals.

The shooting of sea lions has been going on for some time. I've read about some that suffered horrifically with head and spine injuries that caused extreme pain, blindness, and paralysis. They were wounded and left to suffer. It is hard to believe no shooters have been caught.

Xil - Thanks for posting this. I have been a vegetarian for over 25 years. Sea lions need to eat salmon to survive. I don't.

Sometimes I wish animals could shoot guns. Legal action needs to be taken.

We have been signing all sorts of petitions in the past to save Salmon, so what the heck is these fishermen doing? I too have a problem with these trigger happy fishermen. The seals have more rights to eating the fish, than they do fishing for it. The seals are only doing what's natural. How dare these crazy fishermen to kill them. Hope they find them and Prosecute them for killing the seals. Thanks Xil

Animals are just trying to live their lives naturally. They have every right to do so. It is we who threaten them with our over-fishing and pollution, not the other way around.

Need to put spies out to catch these people. They don't have any regard for lives and are a threat to society. They need to be put in prison for life or better still, do unto them as they are doing to the seals.
