Please sign this petition for commemoration of captain Witold Pilecki.

Captain Pilecki showed an exceptional bravery and determination to save the victims within the German concentration camp in Auschwitz, in September 1940. Pilecki allowed the German aggressors occupying Poland to capture him and to imprison him in the Auschwitz concentration camp. There, together with other prisoners of Polish and other nationalities, he organized a resistance movement and wrote reports that were supposed to show the world the true picture of the place. After the war, he was accused by the communist government of espionage , tortured, and after a show trial, sentenced to death.

One can not exclude Poland from German history of genocide during World War II. I do not understand what the reason or the political motives behind it there. I honestly fail to recognize the courage of men and women in Polish help and salvation of the Jews themselves and pay the consequences is part of the same act of genocide that killed and maimed many Polish citizens ..

Bettinko Our history is not easy, we saved and we killed the Jews (darks site Polish history)but the whole of Poland fought with nazism and communism. 1.09.1939(09.1.1939) nazi Germany attacked us from west 17.09.1939(09.17.1939) stalin's Russia from east (Molotov Ribbentrop Pact)

Petition signed. It is important to remember tose who gave their lives in this horrific time in history. I visited Auscwitz in 2008 at night with a group I was traveling with. For those who cannot imagine this, there are many movies on this subject. I suggest the 2001 movie " The Grey Zone".Is there a memorial/statue honoring Fr. Maximillien Kolbe? I cannot recall. Thank you Apolonia for sharing this..

signed..there was also a man who ran an orphanage for jewish children in Worsow, who when they came for the kids went with them...there are a lot of stories like this, the Polish/German part of my family were saved from the camps by selfless individuals who gave them fake papers..
One of my relatives wan't so lucky,he went to Auschwitz, and watched them shoot his wife and newborn baby, among other tortures that I will not get into.

Marianne, there's dozen monuments of fr.Maximilian Kolbe in Poland, and his statue is also in Westimnster Abbey in London. There are dozen churches devoted to Him in Poland. His biggest sanctuary is in Szczuki near Lodz.
But in Auschwitz camp there's only his cell death. It's impressive enough...

All European countries, which were occupied by Nazis had their Quisling regimes, share history of official extradition of Jews to Hitler while many ordinary citizens risked their life to help save as many as they could. Thanks Apolonia, Magda and Bettina for bringing this up. After the war, Jewish organizations have found and honoured numerous persons for their bravery.

Thank you for signing the petition "United States Holocaust Memorial Museum: Captain Witold Pilecki permanent collection at the Holocaust Museum "

Wow, what this man did was above and beyond. That his name isn't more well known or even recognized is sad and shameful. One thing for the common people not to know, but that the Scholers haven't made this more aware and that he didn't get a place in the Holocaust Museum.

I watched the video where he said that being in Auschwitz for those years was like childs play compared to the treatment by his own people under the Communist rule. What an eye opener that is. The inhumanity to man is such a disgrace upon the human race, thank goodness the good in men is also shown, and Captain Pilecki sure gave the example of the Highest that a human being can achieve from a good place in their heart.

It always amazes me how so many people waste their gift of life upon this Earth by being cruel and inhumane to all around them. That you spent that life being mean and hateful is a legacy I would never want to leave, but I find even worse is that good kind decent people are not remembered. Thank you for doing your part on getting his name out there Apolonia. Thanks for the link Angelika.
