Russia chided its longtime ally Syria on Tuesday over its threat to use chemical weapons in case of a foreign attack, but Moscow gave no sign it was abandoning President Bashar Assad's regime, despite growing international condemnation over the violence..

Russia has been quiet for much too long. I realize that Russia is Syria's only ally, but that fact alone should prompt the Russian government to rethink their policy.

Russia probably is in the position of the people that live in glass houses and they are aware that they should not throw stones. They probably reserve the right to repress their won people in the same brutal way. So they don't want to offend the Syrians, in case it reflects back on them someday.

Machine guns, tanks, heavy artillery, helicopters etc: all good.

Chemical weapons: no.

The madness of war and politics.

Charles, Saudi Lobby got US into this mess. Obama listens to Saudi lobby, and not the vice versa. Obama bows to Saudi King and doesn't mind for tens of thousands of Americans to lose their jobs by canceling Canadian pipeline, rather than upset Saudi oil bosses.

Don't expect much from Moscow: Assad buys their weapons, Moscow will make sure this business continues. Funny though: why did they sell chemical weapons to Syria in the first place, if now they demand from Syria not to use them?

Russia - straddling both sides of the fence - yet it keeps this war going by supplying the arms.
