This is wonderful! Unlike the hate that is being spouted by the right wing Evangelical religious idiots that are member of the Repuke party, the DNC will show a face of embracing ALL cultures! I applaud what is happening here! Bravo! There are people who are attempting to encite animosity against Middle Easter people everywhere, and that is the Repuke way! Thank you!

For some reason this story had been taken out of the news submitted. I just found it had been reported for some kind of problem. Don't know why, but I can guess!

From the American Arab Institute: "The American Divide: How We View Arabs and Muslims."

Conducted on August 15th and 16th, 2012, The American Divide: How We View Arabs and Muslims, surveys American attitudes toward Arabs, Muslims and eleven other groups and religions.

Here are some of their statistics:

* Democrats and Obama voters give NO group a net negative rating. Republicans and Romney
voters only give strong negative ratings to Arabs, Muslims, Arab Americans, and American Muslims.

* This is reflected in a deep partisan divide and even more so in a division between those who
describe themselves as Obama or Romney voters. For example, note how the ratings given to Arabs
and Muslims by Obama and Romney voters are mirror reflections of each other. While Obama voters
give Arabs a net 51%/29% favorable rating and Muslims a net 53%/29% rating, Romney voters give
Arabs a 30%/50% net unfavorable rating and Muslims a 25%/57% unfavorable rating.

* By a two to one ratio, Democrats and Obama voters are confident that Arab Americans and
American Muslims could do the job, but a strong majority of Republicans and Romney voters fear
that the ethnicity or religion of members of these communities would influence their work.

Why is it so hard for some to believe that most Arab Americans really have the best interests of our country at heart? Thanks for posting this important article, Carrie!

Bravo! Keep it up, and don't give up...I'm just sorry that they have to face the harassment that they face, because of the ignorant right wing media Like Fox News, whipping up hate against them...Fox and others should be so ashamed and embarrassed for their actions, and for the hate and anger they are causing these people...

Democrats embrace all, Republicans embrace those that adhere to their beliefs and any deviation in those beliefs is a cause for expulsion or exclusion. Vote wisely in November.

Thanks for posting this Carrie.
glad I got to this before the trolls so it is still a breath of fresh air without the stench they seem to bring...

I have never, ever regretted being a dem, just as I have never looked at Islam as a religion of hate and terror, or Palestians as truing to do anything other than survive in the homeland.
This shows the beauty of the melting pot that is America, and what a lesser Union, or one not at all were it not so...
I have but to look at my beautiful Irish American, Catholic turned Muslim, Palestinian loving sister who has been on the front lines of this issue for almost 30 years to know this is America, and this is how it should be...and we must protect it with everything we have...1love

Thank you Carrie for the post.

"In Charlotte, we will host an event for the Arab American delegates -- enabling them to meet one another and prepare for the November election, and our Arab American Institute will co-host with J-Street, a Jewish peace group, a forum on the need for American leadership to push for a just solution to Israeli-Palestinian conflict. "

Working together is what will lead to a viable just peace. Bravo!

The SO-CALLED religious right, is anything but religious.
They are _power & control_ mongers, who care nothing for democracy and freedom. They fear most things and most anyone, not like themselves. They hate Women, Communists, Russians, Women, Latinos, Muslims, Women, LGBT community, Liberals, and Women. I'm certain I forget a few.

Chris Christie stated at the GOP convention, we worry to much about 'love'. How utterly ABSURD.
Christ was all about ~love~. His ideas didn't come from Christianity.

Two of my good care2 friends pointed out that this story "disappearing" for a while was probably just a care2 glitch. They may be right, but I find it odd that this was the only one of my stories that had that problem. At any rate it is back now and I thank you all for the positive feedback. Only a few nay sayers and that's OK. Everyone has a right to his own opinion.

I clapp my hands with my American-Egyption friends~!!!!!,,together, because of the truth they share (VERY SELDOM!!!..and it is a TOTAL PRIVALAGE TO HEAR THE TRUTH!"!!! They are SO AMERICAN AND WANT AMERICA for themselves now and so they can share with their familiys in whatever land they came from..."THIS IS VERY GOOD!! AND THIS IS VERY BAD"!!!..and with people they like, they share, even though we have different religious beliefs..(BECAUSE WE SHARED ALL THE COMMON ONES!!!) ..and became trusted neighbors, customers and local merchants..,and it is OKAY for us to debate ..if we choose!...WE WOULD ALL RATHER TAKE CARE OF ONE ANOTHER, EAT GOOD FOOD, SHARE HISTORY AND CURRANT EVENTS....maybe a little sparing on beliefs,WITH TOTAL ADMIRATIONRESPECT WITH KNOWLEDGE, AND KNOWING, TOGETHER THE UNIVERSE OR GOD CALLS ALL IN VERY UNIQUE WAYS... I AM CHRISTIAN AND THEY ARE MUSLIM...you know what our common denominator is and why we have the best conversations and sharing of why we believe such as we do at the moment!?!....#1 WE ALL BELIEVE THAT THE UNIVERSE CREATE ITSELF AND ALL EXISTANCE!!..as a Christian , I call it GOD, for I truely know of NO other name, except "PURE EXISTANCE"
...my many friends, have many names and many definitions!!!....BOTTOM LINE= WHAT CREATED EXISTENCE= WHAT DO YOU CALL IT!?!=WHAT IS THIS NAME FOR THIS FOOD !?! IT IS MARVELOUS!!!..CAN i HAVE THE RECIPE!?!......SO HOW IS YOUR DAUGHTER DOING IN FIRST GRADE AND WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE SCHOOLS???.....tHESE ARE MY FIRST QUESTIONS!

Thank you Shelly. People are people everywhere and we all talk about the same things when we get together. The fact that ethnic communities are there for each other is a good and comforting thing. American children should grow up knowing what their heritage is, whether it be Egyptian, Italian, African, Spanish, Lebanese, Mexican, etc. There are too many different ethnic backgrounds in this wonderful country to mention. America really is a melting pot.

Hear, here, Carrie!! I am 56, and Mrs. Lortz, my history/geography teacher taught me and did her best to teach "tolarance, people, culture and their differances/ respect of all/ ...and how it is "all important", as we are the people of human beings , PLANET EARTH, (insert the year) 2012, right now..how important is what you know and what you do , is WHAT SHE WOULD BE SAYING, ASKING AND YOU BETTER BE WRITING A "SIMPLE " ESSAY....so you feel comfortable!to do so!...to speak from your heart!..just like Care 2!...Her greatest was to inspire all, to learn every culture, share & recognize the sameness and look/see/understand any diferance and because she was a history teacher, she taught "look for the truth..not just what someone told you...that is how Hitler came into power, and NO ONE WANTS HIIM OR ANYONE LIKE THAT AGAIN!..so it is all of your responsabilitys to learn, care and be responsable and protect Humanity from the "Hitler's of the World"..then she taught us about all the Dictators, that existed at the time..and what as a global communnnity we could do together...this was the mid 1960's...SO ...WE HAVE NO EXCUSE, TO NOT COMMUNICATE SHARE AND ASK FOR LOGICAL REFORM, where ever it is needed! ....TEACHERS ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT ASSET TO ANY COMMUNNITY, NEXT TO GREAT PARENTS!!!

Great article, Carrie. It is SO important to see more like this. Somehow, somewhen, someone decided the only news that WAS news was bad news. So we get only the horror stories and virtually never that which constitutes the MAJORITY of news, I suppose everywhere. Is it that they think people won't buy newspapers not full of gore or watch tv news that isn't filled with mini tragedies? It even afflicts our "fiction" on television, I'm not a sci fi fan in general but absolutely love everything Robert Heinlein and Isaas Asimov ever wrote, in fact I consider them so prescient as to be modern day prophets. Their stories were messages of hope but when you see a show on television, or a modern novel, about life visiting us from elsewhere it is always doomsday - as if there aren't planets with resources that could be "exploited" without a savage indigenous population like ours. Why fight for that you can get free? But that exemplifies the way "news" is handled everywhere. I KNOW that what we are fed as truth about Islam is only the extremist point of view and EVERY religion has its crazies, including the polyglot of religions we have in this country. But the truth is, most people everywhere share the same hopes and dreams for a brighter, happier, peaceful and prosperous future for our children all over the world. We are far more alike than not. It is good to see that highlighted on this site too. So thanks for a bright spot in the day, Carrie! :^)

Noted & thank you, Carrie. America used to be proud of being a "melting pot." This is what we were taught in school in the 60's and 70's when I attended. We weren't singled out by ethnicity or race. We were all proud to be "Americans." We were the cutting edge of freedom for all...whatever happened to Those good ol' days?

I'm with Lois, what happened to the good old days? Times and people are not no where like they use to be. Sad world to live in anymore. The Bible is so true, the love of many will wax cold and that's no lie. Look around us. But I'm glad there are caring people such as on the site left in this sin sick world.
