A wind-delayed Zozobra finally burned at 10:30 p.m. Thursday at Fort Marcy Park when the giant puppet finally gave up his groaning and collapsed in a wall of fire. Many had waited for hours for the annual burn, which usually commences just after 9 p.m.

"For those of you who don’t know Zozobra, I found this qoute from the Zozobra website :”Zozobra is a hideous but harmless fifty-foot bogeyman marionette. He is a toothless, empty-headed facade. He has no guts and doesn’t have a leg to stand on. He is full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. He never wins. He moans and groans, rolls his eyes and twists his head. His mouth gapes and chomps. His arms flail about in frustration. Every year we do him in. We string him up and burn him down in ablaze of fireworks. At last, he is gone, taking with him all our troubles for another whole year. Santa Fe celebrates another victory. Viva la Fiesta!” – A.W. Denninger

Fiesta in San Antonio is in May. It has most definitely gone to tourists who don't understand what it's all about.

Viva La Fiesta!

Unfortunately lots of fun places and festivals are now very expensive and overly controlled. It's like plucking the goose that lays the golden egg. They haven't killed it yet, but a lot of people went away, so if they keep on like this, they will kill it for the locals and only tourists will be able to enjoy the festival.

The celebration also included recognition of New Mexico’s 100th year of statehood as well as recognition of the 300th celebration of Fiestas.
Yes, a shame that the expense and the "no stroller" rule had many folks stand on the outskirts or leave.
