Films like this lead up to tragedies like 9/11 That kind of stuff is dangerous fuel, it's irresponsible !!

The one who is EVEN MORE DANGEROUS, is that Pastor who announced he was going to BURN THE KORAN -- remember him? And,
THIS SAME PASTOR PROMOTED THIS FILM AND PUT IT ON YOUTUBE.
The film did not make much of a stir, until the Pastor started promoting it on the Internet!

Now that Pastor can be "proud of himself" {I am sure he IS!} by having caused A LARGE NUMBER OF DEATHS; INCLUDING A UNITED STATES AMBASSADOR.

From the trailer, the movie seems to be made from a Coptic Christian point of view. The Coptic Christians certainly have reason to complain about the Muslims. They also have Freedom of Speech. The movie is very poorly made - but that makes no difference, the quality should make no difference. It certainly wasn't "endorsed" by our govt in any way!
Under our laws, there is no reason to stop or suppress the showing of this film. Not for "obscenity", as it's no different from the Hollywood product there; not for "poor quality", there's no law against that!; not for possibly historical distortion and possible lies, as again, you can't pass laws against that! And you can't stop its showing because it offends some groups -- they just have the choice not to go see the film!

A whole new world, with the Internet....
if the Internet didn't exist, that film just might be showing in a few church basements, is all...
The fact that a person had this film dubbed into Arabic, suggests that at THAT point, putting the film on Youtube WAS a DELIBERATE PROVOCATION of Arabic-speakers.
I guess THOSE people, the ones responsible for the dubbing, can live with their consciences.....

What will have to happen:
The FBI will have to FOLLOW PASTOR TERRY JONES AROUND, and keep close tabs on what he is up to next.
Then, once that is determined, on whatever date Pastor Terry Jones decides to pull his next "stunt", on that date SECURITY AT AMERICAN AND UNITED NATIONS EMBASSIES ALL OVER THE MUSLIM WORLD, WILL HAVE TO BE INCREASED.

Pastor Jones will POTENTIALLY COST THE GOVT MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN ADDED SECURITY, from time to time, as he chooses.

Free speech isn't really an issue here. YouTube is not a government, it is a business organization, which can unilaterally publish Terms of Service and enforce them, since you must accept them to post, and that is a legal contract. If this video violates them, it can and should be taken down.

BMutiny is correct about the promoter of this film. Given recent history, he knew or should have known that posting this would lead to the deaths of American citizens, and other attacks on America. How is this not treason?

Pastor Jones, of Gainesville, Florida, did not MAKE the offensive movie. Amateurish and made-on-the-cheap as the movie obviously was {it would SHAME a high school student film-maker!}, still, Pastor Jones with his congregation of less than three dozen, simply does not have those kinds of RESOURCES.

What Pastor Terry Jones, of KPoran-burning notoriety, actually DID, was, to PROMOTE the movie, specifically the movie TRAILER {which does not tell a coherent story, but looks to be a strung-together compendium of all the film's most offensive parts, those dealing explicitly with sex and torture}. It was, it seems, Pastor Jones who put the movie Trailer on youtube and HAD IT TRANSLATED INTO ARABIC.

No doubt, at this point he could command financing for these acts, from Dominionists. Dominionists are a "Christian" far-right group that WELCOMES THE IDEA OF A RELIGIOUS WAR BETWEEN ISLAM AND "THE WEST". Specifically, of course, the CHRISTIAN West.
It's in the Bible - Armageddon. And, it will hasten "The Rapture" and the Second Coming of Jesus Christ...

Needless to say, these Xian guys are just as nuts and fanatical as the most "fundamentalist" Muslim groups. They complement each other. AND, EACH FACTION USES THE OTHER TO SERVE ITS OWN PURPOSES.They are more "Evil Twins" than "Opposites"!

Marie, may I first say that not all Muslims are raping and murdering - they may be protesting about the online movie trailer most people of all faiths find offensive, but they are not rapists and murders.

I do not understand why so many westerners have failed to even try to understand the religious culture and political attitude of those living in Muslim countries.

Most of these people have never known anything except a totalitarian government where they have no freedoms and no rights. Their governments control everything in their lives. They do not understand that a movie made by a U.S. citizen was not somehow approved by our government. Their governments approve or disapprove of everything in their lives. So to them, this was a government approved and endorsed movie.

Their belief in Islam teaches them that denigrating their prophet Mohammed is more than just unacceptable, but truly a sinful act which should be punished. For us to fail to take into consideration their lives and culture, is not what we, as Americans should be about.

Imagine what different reactions you would have if you had not known the freedoms you have known all of your life. To be so quick to judge and condemn all Muslims is bigotry. I certainly am not happy with what is going on, but I am not going to say that all of these people are murderous degenerates because that is not the case. Marie, may I suggest a little compassion and understanding for those many who are suffering at the hands of a few?

I don't know from whence you perceived sarcasm in Carrie's remarks Marie, I detected none. Her observations regarding Muslims was spot on. I spent many years around the Middle and Far East making friends regardless of their religion. For many years one of my close friends was an Imam in a Brisbane Mosque, as was a Church of the Nazarene Parson. My wife was a staunch Quaker.I believe Carrie is a Catholic, of sorts, and I am a lifelong Atheist, as is the Leader of my country along with a very large portion of the populace.

It makes no difference what faith or none happens to be your particular predilection. If you are a rabid Southern Baptist or a crazy Hindu or Muslim or a devotee blind to the historic failings of the Catholic faith. Then it isn't, of necessity,the religion that is at fault but certainly is the failing in morality of the religious adherent.

Violence is not confined to the extremists of Islam. The recent spate in Northern Ireland shows that there remains some of the opposing Christian ideologies in that sad area. Pol Pot and his followers in Cambodia were Roman Catholic as was Pinochet, Franco, Hitler and Mussolini. Most of the Ku Klux Klan were Southern Baptist.
Even Stalin was a Russian Orthodox seminarian, and in spite of the murderous intervening years, he was still buried in the consecrated grounds of his home-town Church in Georgia. No...Affiliation to a religion doesn't guarantee anything, good or bad. It is all down to the individuals and how they CHOSE to interpret their particular faith.

Atheists don't have a set of rules, their morality is as individual as they themselves chose. Not a lot different to the ones who claim their God directs their immoral or moral acts. The only real difference is that we accept that, either way . I am the decider I neither acclaim nor blame another being for my behaviour
