I recently succumbed to a bout of narcissism and decided to check out my own Facebook profile. I found no new flattering photos of myself (one can always hope) or new "likes" on my latest post. I was about to go see what an ex-roommate had been up to ...

Yet another reason I have not bought into the FB plague.

Facebook is largely a tool for corporate manipulation of the masses, but we-the-masses also have access to use this tool to organize and to fight the corporations.

Does anyone bother to read the Terms and Conditions? Exactly. At a squillion pages long they are designed to deter us from wasting our precious time on a load of formalities and red tape - and they succeed perfectly. Who reads the small print? Well, I for one should have. It was not Faceache but another, supposedly "free", site that caught me. Had I granted the T&Cs the ten minutes or so of my fleeting existence needed to read and digest them, I may have saved myself a lot of money by getting some advance warning of the elephant trap that awaited me. So far, though, my underwear purchases are not in the public domain. We can ALL be grateful for that.

this is the very reason I would never touch fb,twitter or the like.
I know someone who tried to close those accounts, and they are attributing sales activity and messaging that never even happened...trusting personal info to a website is crazy...just found out that Care2 is screwing up my profile page, they keep changing my relationship status, political and activist info.

It's not just fb,it's all message boards it seems, the bigger they get,the more we lose in privacy.

Had a FB account, never used it, deactivated it. But have the same experience here with Care2 constantly blanking things out of my page, no idea, when you edit it is there, look at the page gone again. Glitches thy name is websites. :^)

Yet more vindication of why I do not participate in Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, LiveJournal, or other general 'social sites; I do engage a few specialty sites including MyOpera, alt.com, and MyYearbook/MeetMe for minor diversions. I distrust Facebook and Twitter and don't care much more for LiveJournal or LinkedIn. As far as the article, Huffington Post has taken a nose dive in my opinion since being bought out by AOHell.

Interesting, noted. I've noticed that every single thing I do on the internet, Facebook wants to publicise it.

I don't use Facebook because I don't have time. There's been a lot of pressure on me to use it, but now I'm just showing people articles like this. Thanks, Carrie.
