Just who was Mitt Romney referring to in his secretly recorded comments at a Boca Raton, Fla., fundraiser as people who don't "take personal responsibility and care for themselves"?

He was talking about ME! 58, laid off 5 years ago, through no fault of my own (bush) and may NEVER find work again in my life time.

The elite never change their mind set. Their ignorance leads them to a future of rich bas*ards that will be competing for each others money in a consumerless world. Brilliant!

Any day now, Mittens will have vision of his life passing before his eyes...and thoroughly bored, change the channel. He has to know by now that he just can't win.

Substantiates the view that Romney is out of touch with many Americans and frankly just not an empathetic man.

In order to assess whether or not, as Romney claims, these non-income tax payers "will vote for the president no matter what," it's helpful to look at a breakdown of who they are. According to 2011 data from the Tax Policy Center, more than half of the filing units not paying income taxes are those with incomes less than $16,812 per year. Nearly a third - 29.2 percent - of those paying no income taxes are tax filers earning between $16,812 and $33,542, and 12.8 percent are those with incomes between $33,542 and $59,486. In other words, the poor are least likely to pay federal income taxes, but many middle-class families are also exempt. Smaller but significant numbers of the higher-income earners are also exempt: The same data shows that>> in 2011, 78,000 tax filers with incomes between $211,000 and $533,000 paid no income taxes; 24,000 households with incomes of $533,000 to $2.2 million paid no income taxes, and 3,000 tax filers with incomes above $2.2 million paid no income taxes.

What can I say but that 47% include retirees on social security and veterans.
There is a large segment who do not want to work and do want government supporting them from crade to grave.
But, I believe they are not as large as Mitt is painting this picture out to be.

He failed to cite the wealthy who also do NOT pay taxes by putting their money into tax free foundations, or hiding the money in the Grand caymen islands and Swiss bank accounts.

Romney states he believe the 47% would like to pay taxes but they are victems in this predicament set up by Obama. How about the wealthy, Mitt, would they like to pay taxes too?

Does this lying hypocrite think that everything happened since Obama became president? Does he forget that Bush had 8 years in office and left the US in poor shape. I really resent this pompus pos. My dad worked all his life and raised 7 kids and never took a penny from the government until he applied for social security at age 67 because he was diagnosed with Stage IV Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and he only lived until he was 67. My mother was broke and trying to get by on 500.00 a month social security so she applied for help with her housing or she wouldn't have been able to survive. Yes, she could have came and lived with me, my husband and 3 kids and either slept in the living room or shared a tiny room with my kids but she wanted to be independant plus after raising 7 kids, I think she wanted to live on her own. Now if I was rich or even middle class, I would have helped supported her but I didn't have a father that could send me through college and then buy me a house for a wedding present. We were doing good just to get by without any government assistance.

From an English journalist who does not cherry pick one part of a comment to criticize and puts it into context with the rest of it:

Mitt Romney has made some remarks at a fund-raising dinner which have apparently shocked America and the entire western world to the core. His campaign is said to be reeling in disarray. Readers of this blog will know that I am no fan of Romney. So what did he say to create this furore?

He said:

'There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what...These are people who pay no income tax.'

Almost half the American people receive government hand-outs and pay no income tax? That's truly shocking. For sure, Romney should not have lumped the truly vulnerable and deserving with the increasing number of those who could work but are somehow not participating in the growing jobs market. Dependency culture is a complex phenomenon and needs a sensitive tuning fork rather than a tin ear. But even so, the general point that too much of America is being sucked into state dependency - and that by increasing their number Obama is effectively gerrymandering the election -- remains a powerful one.

He said that the Palestinians have

'no interest whatsoever in establishing peace, and that the pathway to peace is almost unthinkable to accomplish... I look at the Palestinians not wanting to see peace anyway, for political purposes, committed to the destruction and elimination of Israel, and these thorny issues, and I say there's just no way.'

Absolutely correct. Both the Hamas and Mahmud Abbas's Fatah make it crystal clear over and over again that they want to destroy Israel as a Jewish state. That's truly shocking.

He said:

'If I were Iran, if I were Iran-a crazed fanatic, I'd say let's get a little fissile material to Hezbollah, have them carry it to Chicago or some other place, and then if anything goes wrong, or America starts acting up, we'll just say, "Guess what? Unless you stand down, why, we're going to let off a dirty bomb." I mean this is where we have-where America could be held up and blackmailed by Iran, by the mullahs, by crazy people. So we really don't have any option but to keep Iran from having a nuclear weapon.'

Absolutely correct. While other 'dirty' bombs are all-too possible from chemical or biological materials, the prospect of a portable Iranian nuclear device in the hands of Hezbollah is clearly one potentially nightmarish outcome for America if Iran is not stopped from developing nuclear weapons. That's truly shocking.

He said:

'The president's foreign policy, in my opinion, is formed in part by a perception he has that his magnetism, and his charm, and his persuasiveness is so compelling that he can sit down with people like Putin and Chávez and Ahmadinejad, and that they'll find that we're such wonderful people that they'll go on with us, and they'll stop doing bad things. And it's an extraordinarily naive perception.'

Absolutely correct. The outcome has been, as we have seen from the chaotic empowerment of Islamist fanatics in Libya and Egypt by Obama and other western leaders resulting in the recent murder of the US ambassador to Libya and other mission staff-to which the Obama administration responded with yet more kow-towing to the fanatics -- that America's Commander-in-Chief has put America and the entire free or would-be free world in even greater danger. And that's truly shocking.

The most shocking thing of all, however, is that the mainstream US media don't think any of these things is shocking. What they think is shocking is that Romney told the truth about them.

They don't think it's shocking that Obama's disastrous foreign policy has empowered the mortal enemies of the west and weakened both America and the free world. They think it's a shocking gaffe that Romney has said so. How dare he!

They don't think it's shocking that the Obama administration has bent over backwards to sanitise and effectively condone genocidal Palestinian rejectionism of Israel. How could they? They themselves to a greater or lesser extent endorse this racist Palestinian programme of ethnically cleansing the Jewish people from their own rightful and historic homeland, and never publish the elementary truth that the actual cause of the Middle East impasse is not the absence of a Palestine state but the Arab and Islamic aim of eliminating Israel. So they find it a shocking gaffe that Romney has actually called this for what it is. How dare he!

They don't think it shocking that nearly half of US citizens are dependent on state hand-outs while worklessness is increasing among those eligible for work and while the US has developed a $16 trillion national debt.

How could they? For some of them it has become an article of faith that the poor are powerless to affect their own circumstances; for others, it is an equivalent article of faith that a politician must always suck up to all voters and never tell any of them any hard truths that might jeopardise their vote. So they find it a shocking gaffe that Romney has done just that. How dare he?

The really shocking thing is that the laughably cartoonish spin put on these remarks by the far-left Mother Jones website is accepted as the obviously correct position by the US mainstream media (but not necessarily by the American public, which does not see life through the same warped prism - another fact the US media would find too shocking to believe).

This is the same media, let's not forget, which effectively put Obama into the White House in the first place by systematically refusing to publish the overwhelming evidence of his extremist background, friends and attitudes, not to mention the glaring untruths, evasions and unprecedented lacunae in what was published about him. As a result America elected its first far-left, anti-west, Black Power fellow-traveller to the White House - thanks in large measure to the American mainstream media, which today is similarly intent on airbrushing his disastrous record out of the picture and instead demonising his opponent.

Romney has not one opponent in this presidential election, but two: Barack Obama and the American media which carries his bags for him.

Now that really is shocking.

Gilian. Romney is under the direction of Karl Rove. Rove is the architect of the 4th reich and corporate fascism. Fascism makes a whole people dirt poor as they lose their money and power. How can you attempt to defend him/them? Because fox said so? They work for Karl Rove!

Capitalism is a huge failure. The end game, if it were possible (without protest) it would leave ALL of the money in one hand. Like a game of monopoly.

A CONSUMER based economy (pre reagan) is the only kind that works and serves the people, period.

Good luck finding a job, a FULL or part time job when you are 65!!! Oh yeah you can be a senator at 65 and make$$$$$ but what about the rest of us????
Let his buddies buy his way into the presidency with their advertising. I'm still not voting for this uppity punk!!!

In the video where he is saying these things, Romney's voice just SOUNDS hypocritical. He pauses after each statement, as if he wants approval. He sounds as if he is reading, mechanically, from a script. I am sure he WAS; or rather, from a memorized script. Each separate "point" he made, is a sentence crafted to what his wealthy audience wanted to hear. Rationalizations and justifications for THEIR parasitic lifestyles, the PARASITIC LIVES OF THE RICH LEECHING OFF OF EVERYBODY ELSE. Typical psychological tactic of DISPLACEMENT, ascribing to someone ELSE what YOU are! It's the WEALTHY who are not paying anywhere NEAR their fair share of taxes -- and Romney's pitch is, that he will LOWER THE WEALTHY AUDIENCE'S TAXES EVEN FURTHER. Making them even MORE PARASITICAL than they already ARE.

We are currently seeing a LOT of this "I am not a fan of Romney BUT......" stuff.
We USED to see the same thing, "I am not a fan of BUSH, BUT......."
This is how the Right-wing tries to dredge up some sort of support for a REALLY, REALLY UNPOPULAR PERSON.
Romney is the WEAKEST, LAMEST, and by FAR the MOST UNIVERSALLY DESPISED and DISLIKED person EVER to be put forward as a Candidate for a major party! He has a fair amount of competition; but G W Bush, Palin and McCain were more popular than Mitt, any time!

On the Daily Show last night Jon showed a video of Mitt's mother where she said that they were immigrants to U.S. and in the first year they had to go on welfare. I imagine she was doing an interveiew when Mitt's father was governor of Michigan and telling their story.

Certain things have to be pointed out as FACT> no. 1 the MSM is not telling the American people factual news. They are manipulating and serving up BIASED coverage to support this inept President.

Mother Jones is an entertaining magazine but it is a very left wing progressive news source which delibertely slants their perspective on any news coverage. Unfortuately, Time, Newsweek and the New Yorker have joined their ranks as well and present a one-sided liberal bias. All of these sources build-up Obama and never offer any truth about this incompetent president.

This entire video of Romney is a distraction to the real story which should be covered: THE MURDER OF AMBASSADOR STEPHENS & THE NAVY SEALS ON 9/11. This is being deliberately not covered and Stephens knew of pending terrorist plans to attack months prior and it was NOT the youtube video which they are conveniently blaming. It was planned months before that foolish video. But, the MSM will NOT tell you this. Anderson Cooper and CNN are finally breaking ranks with MSM and reporting the truth. This was fully reported within 24 hrs. by the British, German and Israel medias.

We need to focus now on this election.
People should NOT be living off of government Welfare permanently. Younger people need to learn self-respect and not dependency. Self-reliance is exemplified in working and being self sufficient. You also get freedom, the government controls those that are in total reliance upon monthly checks, EBT cards.

Retired people paid into social securitiy which is a safety net for them.
This is not America that I grew up in anymore.
It is slowly tranforming into a totaltarian state.

From the article:
The fact that they're not paid enough or are active duty military or are too old or disabled—maybe suffering from black lung or other diseases acquired on the job—does not mean they don’t contribute to America’s tax revenues.

In fact, the poorest one-fifth of U.S. households pay a grinding 17.4 percent of their income in various federal, state and local taxes.

In case you’ve been visiting another planet and missed perhaps the most disgusting screed by a candidate for the presidency—ever—here it is:

"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what….These are people who pay no income tax. […] [M]y job is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

the poorest one-fifth of U.S. households pay a grinding 17.4 percent of their income in various federal, state and local taxes.

We are witnessing the demise of the old paradigm of the lies that have kept humanity suffering for decades. Romney wants to continue the Bush policies, including starting another war, but everyone knows that a clear sign of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result....his ideas are not what will make anything better, but definitely worse just like Bush.
