Republicans Wave the White Flag

Speaker John Boehner emerged from his weekly huddle with House Republicans on Wednesday morning to take his place behind a mahogany lectern in front of a brown backdrop. The dark tones provided ideal camouflage for the deeply tanned speaker --

Noted. Again, the history and the facts are not on the Republicans' side. There is NO evidence that raising marginal rates hurts the economy, particularly the top marginal rates (in fact, it is just the opposite, as a recent commissioned study noted). At the end of the day, the Republicans can either cut their losses and also stop hurting the country, or they can continue to not make a deal and hopefully be a minority party for years to come.

You cannot currently send a star to Thomas because you have done so within the last week.

The GOP tried to bury the government study showing that tax cuts for the rich do nothing to boost the economy. OUCH! Why should they get to bury the study? Dems should be shouting it from the rooftops.

Oh Thomas, and Roseann D. , you can blame the GOP all you want - where is a proposal to work with? For four years Obama has been using Bush's tax cuts, and you are blaming who?

Green stars to Roseann and Thomas - thanks so much Carrie! I do hope that the President works out something - and gets their unequivocal signatures to it!

I go to Boehner's website and send him messages reminding him that the majority are for allowing the tax cuts to the wealthiest expire, and to honor the will of the people. When I sign and send emails to my own reps and senators, I am preaching to the choir, as they already are working for logical and ethical solutions 99% of the time.

Is it just me, or can anyone else see Mr. Boehner's strong physical resemblance to THE GRINGCH?

Allan...there was no "blame" in my post. What I posted was a narrative of history and the facts RE: increasing marginal rates. In response to your post, Pres Bush's tax cuts were scheduled to expire in 2011, so there wasn't anything that Pres Obama could do until then. Last year, if you recall, there was the spectacle of the Republicans holding the debt ceiling over the country's head (that caused the US's credit rating to be downgraded, remember?) that led Pres Obama to extend the Bush tax cuts for one more year. That day is here, and an offer is on the table

Moreover Allan, in all fairness, I don't see any blame in "Roseann's" post either.....she's just stating the facts.

Thanks, Carrie. John of Orange just wants to keep his "Speaker" title. Looks like he's found himself between a rock and a hard place. Maybe it will help squeeze out some of that orange. I'm betting my 2 cents that we won't fall off any fiscal cliff, and the GOP is dividing itself on the way to a gigantic meltdown. But, I'm a bit of a dreamer. One can still hope, though.

Thank you for your comments, Thomas. Too soon to send you a star. Boner looks like he has a really bad hangover. And Thomas, you look like one of my soap opera characters.

If Boehner ever pressed his face against the "white" flag, it would end up looking like the Shroud of Turin!
