Following a 95-minute summit at the White House, the NRA issued a curt press release vowing never to surrender."We were disappointed with how little this meeting had to do with keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack..

Very good article! So there still is a maybe that there can be more control. I watched a new show of a gun store and it's employees, and at the beginning to the show, two employees were out front of the store and going all around it with the big automatic rifles, hand guns and more, before opening the store. During the show they said that they always had to be on their guard! Couldn't believe it!! It blows my mind actually.!!

Thanks for sharing Carrie.

Many responsible gun owners (the intelligent ones) agree there needs to be more controls. What really scares me are the NUTJOBS like Alex Jones (on Piers Morgan show) who made such a major fool of himself. I've seen others on the news declaring that if they lose their gun rights, they are "going to have to start shooting people". Let's hope Obama pushes this thru any way he can! It's time!

If only we could tax the rich at pre Reagan rates and re fund mental health. All the right and NRA are going to give us for the next tragedy is a kid with 2 semi auto hand guns and 4 clips. Diminishment will be unmeasurable.

Thanks Carrie for the link to the article by Tim Murphy and Adam Serwer and the video. What else would you expect the NRA to say regarding the meeting. "the nation's leading gun group pledged to take its "commitment and meaningful contributions" to Congress." I sure when they say contributions they don't mean their proposals just their money and threats. All the actions pointed out in the article should be immediately taken by the President and I will contacting the White House via email about these very actions. Read and noted.

I'm glad there is so much more that can be done with existing laws and executive authority so we do not necessarily have to wait on this dysfunctional Congress for all action.

Noted, tweeted, tweeted, read, shared. Obama should do all fourteen of the things to protect the communities from the crazies. We also should vote out of office anyone who isn't willing to ban assault weapons and the loading mechanism that is over ten shots. Hunters aren't going to war; they don't need assault weapons or more that ten bullets before a reloading is necessary. The second amendment talks about an armed militia; the only armed militia we have is army, navy, marines, air forces and maybe we could consider coast guard and National Guard as well as police.

Executive Orders are unconstitutional and exactly what the founding fathers were trying to prevent.

By Obama issuing yet more EO's, he is acting as a "ruler of the people", not an elected official. He is not supposed to be able to create laws by himself without the approval of Congress and the House of Representatives.

One man should not be in the position to decide the fate of hundreds of millions. These are the actions of Dictators, Emperors and Tyrants.

Executive Orders are not unconstitutional. They have been used my most Presidents. Presidents issue executive orders to federal employees on how to execute laws that have been passed by Congress.

Thanks, Carrie. I agree with every single point in the article....nothing about "taking guns away." Those in disagreement are simply not thinking straight....or plain nuts.
