Thanks Carrie for the link to the article by Ryan Grim and the video clips. I certainly hope so and about time. Thank you Mr President.

As a proud liberal and progressive, I am thrilled that the "age of liberalism" is back. Loved the president's inaugural speech and can't wait to see what he accomplishes these next four years - with or without sourpuss McConnell and his ilk.

As that astute twit from Alaska used to say "You bet'cha!"
My kind of man.

Mitch McConnell is so far to the right that he probably thinks electricity is a communist plot.

Anyone seen today's Borowizt report? It is right on this topic, with McConnell commenting something like "Now we have our list of things to oppose," in the coming legislative session, after witnessing the speech.

My problem is that liberals are so far to the right of me. I cannot even type that reactionary word that starts with "c". Thanks, Carrie, for a thought provoking article.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) Who cares what this fool from the g o p puke party thinks.
The people of KY need to boot him out of office for continuing obstructionistic tactics.

I liked Reid's comment about use of labels like liberalism--labeling is usually intended to divide people rather than bring them together and rarely used when goals are consensus or bipartisanship.

Noted...Unfortunately the Era, of idiots, and obstruction, is still with us, as the chinless wonder so stupidly states...This clown should be impeached from the Senate, he is there to do what is best for the people of the Country, and he has done nothing, but make life miserable for the vast majority of people in this Country, by being the ignorant buffoon that he is...Just look what he's done for the people of Kentucky, nothing, they are one of the poorest States in the Country, yet he does nothing to help them, but he lines his pockets by taking the special interest money, at the expense of the people in his home State, and the Country in General...He is a f**king loser, of the first degree...And a disgrace as a Human Being...He makes my skin crawl actually...

Noted...thanks Carrie. I feel that only those who choose hate, not love, and contention, not compromise, could possibly receive a speech that was so inclusive as a symbol of division. I think some forget that it was four years ago, inauguration night, when a group of Republicans met to plot the strategy of opposing everything the President proposed in an effort to thwart his Presidency (and often the good of the people and the country, as well). "The Era of Liberalism is Back," says Sen McConnell. God willing I say, God willing...

Stars to Thomas P and Brian M and others.... Does the Far Right not realise that they lost the election by over a million votes despite all their frauds - yet they complain when the President says he will do what the majority of the electorate want?

The far right is in a cult. They don't recognize america as a democracy. They see it as fox tells them to. Corporate fascism. Like Jim Jones did. The ONLY solution now is separation.

LOL! DEMOCRACY has a Liberal bias!;) About time Obama remembered HIS base & the Democratic Party had better get Back on board or we'll go Green (or Purple or Rainbow!;) to get Our Liberal Bias put forth!

Kit B (276)

I think the use of the election "machine" to rally support for future issues is excellent thinking. Obama gave an excellent speech, but if any of that is to happen, we must stay involved.

Rosary G (3)

How sad - espousing Democratic Republic rock-solid ideals and the golden "do unto others" rule that governs every legitimate religion, is now considered FAR LEFT WING? Extraordinary statement by someone who neither earns his money nor deserves his job

Bravo, Mr. President, for stating the true excellence of our country loud and clear!

"Liberalism" is only back in rhetoric. Neo-cons needn't worry, action-wise they still prevail---kill lists, drones, global wars on terror and drugs, and other fascist policies.

O Diane! Of course Obama is the Divider in Chief. He's dividing the ultra-conservative, compassion-challenged, greedy, racist, tea party separatists from the rest of the country who want us to work together as a civilized society for the common good. So go hide in your bunker with your canned goods, guns, Ted Nugent albums, and articles from your favorite right-wing extremist bloggers while the rest of us try to move the US into the 21st century.

I don't believe you'll be getting rid of Mitch McConnell anymore than we'll be getting rid of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.

S o Mitch McConnell moved from the upper-middle class of a lifelong government employee into the real upper class ($20M or so net worth) of someone who married a woman with a rich father.
Who just happened to become rich from his connections with the rulers of communist China.
"free" trade is great for everybody ??? The source of McConnell's mega-wealth (relative to the rest of us), and how that source has presumably, for 20 years or so, affected McConnell's positions on "free" trade and its devastating impact on millions of Americans who used to have decent manufacturing jobs.
McConnell and his wife are cheap-labor Republicans who hate the idea of American workers making more than minimum wages, .
Because that's what their benefactors want them to do.

Ah, you chinless Mr Turtleneck, just hush..and maybe join your friend Mr Boehner who wiped TEARS from his eyes while the archbishop was saying the prayer (wonder why the media hasn't commented on this-or did I miss?) We know why he was crying...and all rethugs should as well!

Star to Bill K. for: "So go hide in your bunker with your canned goods, guns, Ted Nugent albums..." LOL! That about sums it up. I would add low IQ and neanderthal profile, sloping forehead, grunting, long arms, and big hands for throwing spears while stalking large pieces of meat.

Yes, what a shock! Mich Mc Connell looks as though a plum stone has got stuck in his throat. Liberalism must be something very uncomfortable for him, poor man. We should all try to comfort him and tell him that liberalism is not going to hurt him. In fact, if he stopped interfering, it could usher in a much better future for a majority of Americans.

"Liberalism has returned in force, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said on Tuesday, reviewing the president's Inaugural Address."

News flash, Mitch. It never left. There have always been and will always be Americans of great moral stature in this country, your kind occasionally arise out of swamp and show your fangs for a bit, then people with souls take back control again. The vast majority of Americans care about each other, that you don't is on you, not us. I so hope Ashley Judd takes that idiot down. He is the biggest fool in the Senate, well close, he does have competition but he's the one those fools keep electing spokesman, so he's on top of the dung heap, but not by much.

I think Yertle-the-Turtle just said that to "rally the troops." The divisiveness within the GOP is at a high, and this is a scare tactic. Jim, Michael and others are so right in calling them "Obstructionists"...I believe either Bill Maher or Jon Stewart mentioned that recently, and so they should be renamed. I'm not really sure what's classified as "liberal" anymore, since the GOP and media have made it such a dirty word, when in actuality, CONservative is worse. The Bush Regime pushed me past "liberal" long Progressive--it's the antithesis of what Obstructive Corporatists want....progression.

Diane O (194)
Thursday January 24, 2013, 3:02 pm
Lois, you are right...."progression towards socialism."

Fiona O (565)

Dear Diane, Socialism is PROGRESS. Socialism is, alas, only the beginning of a meaningful step towards ending class warfare in this country.. You say no class warfare: See whole families at long term homeless shelters, dear.

"you are right...."progression towards socialism."

Now you're catching on! Progress! Society! Put the civil in civilization! We were meant to be social. It's what separates us from most animals. Even animals can be highly social. Evolution points in that direction.

isn't it sad how some people try to demonize socialism, as if compassion and community are bad things.

Fox and friends have spent billions to demonize socialism. Fascism doesn't work if the people are informed. The sheep are indeed saddening.
