It turns out you can't even trust the Internal Revenue Service with your social security number.

Did anyone ever trust the IRS before this?

But seriously, like every federal department except defense, they are terribly understaffed., fellow victims of austerity.

Joanne, most errors result when too many people are involved in a process.

My husband's Social Security card is old enough to still say "not to be used for identification purposes" on it. It is crazy that our SS number has to be given out to anyone who asks for it, basically. I am no longer surprised by anything that happens in any "professional" capacity, including that of our government. Integrity on the job seems to have flown out the window.

Why am I not surprised...How do we find out if our SSN was one of those out there for the "short" time??

Noted. I would say "unbelievable," but as of late, there is so much happening that I would've never believed before now. Thanks, Carrie.
