Did You Know, You Can Be Fired For Being Gay?

The country has long had laws that protect workers from being fired based on their race, gender, religion, disability or other characteristics of their identity. But sexual and gender identity aren't usually among those protections.

It should be included in our laws that gay people should be protected too. They are people like you and me.

Why not? I was fired 10 months before retirement for being old.

Crappy, but not surprising in this employer-run world we're living in now. Too bad equality doesn't mean the same to us as it does to GOP/TP. Let's strive to change that in 2014 and 2016. Noted with thanks.

How awful: fired for being gay, too attractive or too old. We need to address these wrongs.

Always struck me how easily you can fire employees in the US. In Western Europe it may be a bit too hard, some say, but at least you can't be fired at a whim and certainly not for being gay or old or...
Legislation calls for more protection against being fired, not for adding one minority after the other to legislation. The whole concept behind work legislation should be rethought. But I think that'll have no chance while the GOP is still around.

Noted. I'm sorry I don't use Twitter, or I would take that action. But, many groups have sent me mailings lately to ask my members of Congress to support ENDA, which I've done and will continue to do. This must be passed.

Well, did you know that in Ohio you can be fired for no reason at all. Ohio is an at will State. That means that an employer can fire you anytime they get a bug up their ass. I know a woman who was fired by her boss's alcholic fiance, and the labor relations board didn't want to hear about it. The company then tried to block my friend's unemployment benefits three times with made-up reasons why she was let go. The unemployment investigator eventually found in favor of my friend. But, that's the way it is in Ohio. It is wrong on so many levels but the republicans who are in the majority in State government always side with employers and workers really have no rights. So, it doesn't matter that they're not allowed to fire you for being Gay. I don't think any of these dirt-bags who hide behind Ohio's At Will rules would ever make the mistake of being truthful and telling an employee,"You're fired because you are Gay."
