Citing decades of scholastic research, MSNBC host Lawrence O'Donnell rebuffed his Fox News counterpart Bill O'Reilly's attempts to play "amateur sociologist" regarding the circumstances that led to the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin...

Bill O'Reilly serves well as a foil for those who wish to compare and contrast what racism actually looks like in today's America. Simply because this blow-hard says it is not racism doesn't change that the words that fall with thunder from his skinny white lips are deeply and intentionally racists.

I think some like him because he is saying what they dare not. Black children are born to unwed mothers, so they must be criminals in waiting. Worse those single mothers, white and black are destroying our country, if only they would all just get abortions. Oh wait, can't have that.

Trayvon Martin was just a kid, walking back to his dad's house, and wearing of all things a sweat shirt with a hood. How very scary is that? Come on - even racist ole Bill O'Reilly doesn't really believe this crap, but far worse, he says it because it will appeal to his very demented audience. There is a sad fact that too many of the FOX viewers are just drinking up that vile excrement and charging their tiny brains on that fecal matter pouring from that orifice O'Reilly calls a mouth.

Thanks Lawrence and thank you Carrie.

I really enjoy Lawrence O'Donnell and watching him put Bill O'Reilly's idiocy into perspective was the best! Thanks for the wonderful comment Kit!

TY Carrie. I try and watch a 'block' of MSNBC daily and have the utmost respect for Laurence. I didn't see this segment and thank you for posting it. I realized I turned on the tele right after, as I did see the interview with the 2 young men! O'Riley is the scum of the earth and if in fact you are true Kit, that he really believes the venomous vile he spews for his FAUX demented following, he is even more disgusting than I already believe he is. I never thought he was anything other than an ignorant, arrogant, lying, racist who is very powerful by his position. It never even occurred to me that he DIDN'T believed the poison he injected into his following. Now he has a larger following, the younger generation. More poisoning the viewers with his GR$$DY narcissistic psychopathic "News???"

A clear case of "this is your brain" and "this is your brain on FOX."

Noted. O'Donnell's comments explain exactly why I never watch Fux Noise, let alone O'Really. Fear not! Since the age of his audience is no where near what advertisers claim they sell to, added to the fact that these viewers are "quite up in age," I do believe O'Really's days are numbered.

All the "Rubbish" that O'Reilly spews, falls on many deaf ears, yet he manages to retain a captive audience from some--as SuSanne has pointed out --- sadly, with some members of our younger generation. Thanks for hitting this home run here Kit!!! Thanks So Much Carrie!!!~

It's too bad that O'Donnell's piece cannot be aired in a number of other venues. People who ignore O'Reilly's obvious racism might find it clarifying.

Good on Mr. O'Donnell. Why perpetuate the lies of the ignorant...O'Reilly. And yes, especially harmful to the "developing" young ears, hearts and minds.

Too bad I can't see O'Donnel here in Europe, so thank you for posting, Carrie. Every time a see a clip by O'Donnel it's a breath of fresh air; he's astute and debunks the kind of ranting that comes out of Fox news/GOP/TeaParty with surgical precision. I wish we had programs like his.

And what would O'Reilly know about racism anyway? On the other hand, O'Donnell puts effort and intelligence into all he does - as well as heart.

If we ask white Americans if there is race problem in the US they would say only about 50% because we have almost solved this, blacks answering the same question tend to say that about 5-10% of the race problem has been dealt with honestly or at all. Would the group that lives racism every day be more credible?

Thanks Carrie. I find it sad that we seem to have regressed so far in the 50 years since the War On Poverty. Then serious people took a serious look at the deeper causes of the problem, and the majority of the American people and government were interested in evolving in their understanding of the deeper issues involved. Now it seems too many people are satisfied with the simplistic and downright nasty bumper sticker reasoning of someone like O'Reilley. Though I think his ugly and vicious view of humanity is becoming too virulent and too obvious and will lead to his downfall. It's finally happening to Rush Limbaugh as he tumbles from his throne as the King of Conservative Radio (and hopefully into a very deep and dark abyss of anonymity.)

Noted...thanks Carrie. Bill O'Reilly is still his own biggest fan, and he speaks the truth because he is "watching out for the folks"...allegedly. If you are while and not a progressive, then he is definitely watching out for you in his mind. If he knew what racism was, he would change the way he behaves, because he is clearly racist. The fact that one may not use racial epitaphs does not mean he or she isn't racist. O'Reilly is living proof of that...just listen to what he says. Be it the Black community, immigration, even helping the poor, make no mistake about it...Bill O'Reilly and his ilk are racists. Thanks for sharing this Carrie, and thanks to Kit for so many great points.

I enjoy O'Donnell-he gives me proof that there are still intelligent people in the world, while O'Reilly conveys the very reverse. I have yet to see clear evidence that O'Reilly could pass a sixth grade history exam, though he certainly seems to fabricate it at will to an audience too uncritical to believe it.
